Best there is in Marathon! Capt. Kevin Johnsen doesn't just take you out and you catch fish.. You are part of his crew. He will teach you to become a better fisherman. I learn something new from him every trip out. He has so many water adventures other that just fishing. He works his tail fin off for you from booking to the time you pull back in from your excursion. You will not find a better captain out there. Cant wait till November to go out with him again. Go check out his website and FB company pages.. so much there to see... Tons of info and pictures! read more

What a day on the water. Kevin is a great guide. We caught a ton of fish and brought in enough for 3 meals. We could have kept more but that would be wasteful. We fished 5 to 6 spots and caught fish at every spot. We use different techniques per location and it was fun to learn new methods to catch fish. His boat and equipment are top notch. His ability to teach the youngest kids how to catch fish makes it enjoyable for everyone on board. No need to be a PHD in angling Kevin Will get fish in the boat and enough fish for a meal. Go see Kevin if you are in Marathon for an enjoyable fishing day. read more

Kevin , just a couple of things and I will not write anymore or respond back so feel free to right another novel of excuses. 1. There is a reason why you only get 5% of people that you take fishing write a review. It's a waste of their time and mine and you have no idea what you're doing, that's why I wount be writing anymore. Just want people to know what they will get if they book with you and hopefully you will actually listen this time and may get better and do your clients justice and be a good Captain. 2. You lost the sailfish because you had no clue of what you're doing and didn't listen. If you would have chased the fish when we told you to, we would have landed it and not got spooled. 3. I went on 3 other Charters while we were there, they all did awesome, one was half your age and did fantastic all three were awesome with my kids. These Captains were not condescending like you were the whole day. You are one angry Captain. If you would just acknowledge your screwups you would be a lot happier person and your clients would rebook with you and you would get better and more reviews. 4. My boys caught way more fish, fishing from the dock where we were staying than with you and better quality fish. You need to go out more often and find better places to fish like most captains do. 5. Your were 2 hours late because you screwed up, period. We were supposed to meet you at 8am, we started calling and texting you at 8:05am, the Marina also were calling you and texting you about 8:15am, you choose not to answer your phone or check your messages until about 9:15am. When you run a Bussiness you need to take responsibility and check your phone. We were getting messages from you 1 and 2 days before our charter making sure you were paid the balance. You choose to get another app for you Bussiness make sure it works and check your messages until you know it works. I could write about our horrible charter all day, just not worth it. I just want people to know what they will get if they book with you and hopefully you will learn from this as well and stop being condescending to people, especially kids, let them Have fun Kevin, stop being so angry, enjoy life be nice to people make it enjoyable for everyone. I know you will write more excuses, I will not be reading it or responding back. Hope I you learn from this. Good luck. read more

Today my family and I had the privilege of going fishing with Captain Kevin. He called us ahead of time to let us know that reef fishing (which is what I planned to do) was terrible in recent days, so he asked if we'd be up to changing our trip plans. I agreed, and I'm glad I did! He found the fish!!! Once we loaded up on dolphin he broke out the electric rod to try some deep dropping. We found one tile fish, but everyone had a great time. He is super knowledgeable , kind and a very hard worker! He comes to the boat well prepared with the proper baits and rigs. He is also excellent with all levels of fishing experience. If you want a great day on the water with a captain who will work hard to find the fish, this is your captain!!! read more

Kevin is so amazing. He was so helpful and caring. We went with two other couples. I got so seasick but he kept checking on me while the others were fishing. Once I got my balance back on LAND he cleaned the fish and said I would be good in 15 minutes and I was. Thank you Kevin for being so awesome. Highly recommend booking with him!!! read more

Kevin is a true professional. He navigated my family of five with grace and comedic timing. We had a blast! We saw dolphin play in our wake. We slayed Yellow Jack and Mangrove Snapper all in a comfortable boat with a first class guide. All of my girls agreed: "Best day EVER." read more

Great family day on the water with Captain Kevin! I read all the great reviews and they are accurate. My wife and I went out fishing with our 4 kids aged 5,8,10 and 14 and we all came back with keeper fish for dinner. We booked all day charter from 8-4 and caught probably 100 fish! We requested to have lunch on a waterfront restaurant and Captain Kevin dropped us off and picked us up after he went out and caught more fresh bait. If you want to have the fishing day of your life book Captain Kevin. The absolute best part of the day is Kevin doesnt just put you on fish, but he teaches you how to catch them all day. He educated all of us all day on how to be a better fisherman. Thank you Kevin! A true epic family fishing day. read more

We had the best time today with capt. Kevin. He's super knowledgeable, helpful but also stands back enough to let you feel accomplished in what you caught. We learned so much and I am so glad we spent this investment in our trip and really think it made our trip special and memorable! If you are open about what you hope to accomplish on your trip, he is very accommodating and is clear about that on his page. How anyone could give less than 5 stars is beyond me-- he was more than accommodating ! He even was helpful to me and gave me tips for my sea sickness and I had a great time with no issues! Definitely saving his info for future. Invest in your trip you won't regret it. Thanks Capt. Kevin! read more

We were greeted promptly by Capt. Kevin when we arrived at the docks. We quickly proceeded to board the boat, which had a nice storage area for our bags along with flaps to help protect us from the wind. Once aboard we went to our first fishing location where we caught some decent fish, after about an hour we headed over to another spot where we caught a few keepers. We then proceeded to move again to try for sharks, which we did not really care to catch as we previously stated. After an hour of waiting we moved on the catch some snappers since our trip was getting close to being over. Overall it was a fun fishing trip and I understand that catching fish is not guaranteed when you go out but it would have been nice not to waste an hour fishing for something that we had no desire to catch. read more

What a blast! I have been on deep sea fishing trips throughout my life. I know a successful trip depends greatly on your guide. Captain Kevin is the best! He listens to you and customizes your trip and your group needs. His passion and knowledge about the fishing in the Florida Keys blew us away. He is truly a master of his skill. As conditions changed he was able to quickly switch strategies. His boat is meticulously maintained. This is the trip for you if you are a beginner or if you are highly experienced. Kevin teaches and works with all and we can't wait to get back on the water with him. read more

When I first met Kevin, I was captured by his passion for life and living. I thought, he's got this figured out. That is an understatement. I've chartered with Kevin a few times now and each time I'm left in awe. Each trip is completely customized to the group, he doesn't offer Package A, B, C and no substitutions please... Kevin wants to know who you are, what is bringing you to the keys to really understand what it is that you and your group want to get out of it. Whether it is fishing, snorkeling, or chasing down water spouts...Kevin has a zest for life and wants to share that passion with his customers. At the point of this review I've now known Kevin for over 8 years...wow... Time flies. I'm not the type to write a lot of reviews because my brain is too scattered to sit and concentrate for that long of a time but something clicked the other day and I want to make sure that if you are considering going out on the water in the keys...(that should be all of you lol) then please check Kevin out, you will not meet a more passionate person who treats you like family immediately. Too much in this day and age people like to only review when its negative and that is a problem with us, society, we should really be thanking each person, business who has influenced us, made us laugh, gave us a trip of a lifetime. Capt. Kevin is 110% honest, your safety comes first, your fun and your goals are second and have a great time and you are truly privileged to be on board with someone so smart and just a genuine awesome person as he. You will start as strangers and leave being friends, hell maybe you'll even make your friendship Facebook official too ;) Enjoy your time! read more

I've been out with a lot of captains, but none who worked like Kevin Johnsen. We were on fish 15 minutes after we left the dock, and the action never stopped. We came home with over 13 pounds of filleted yellowtail, mangrove snapper and yellow jack. He'll be my first call on our next visit. His rates are reasonable, and he will do snorkeling or custom trips if you like. read more

Never did I think that two everyday people from Indiana could catch their dinner, have tons of fish leftover and EACH catch a shark in the Florida Keys. (Check out the Youtube clips- ours is Bull Shark Power Hour) I think my thoughts would have been proven correct if we had gone with a "generic" or "it's popular because there's a big boat with a lot of people going" type of place. Our background- bluegills and bass by use of basic poles using night crawlers, crickets, etc. Kevin coached us through the use his equipment, took care of all licenses, bait, boat prep, driving, music, cleaning the fish we caught, and even baited our hooks with different baits while adjusting to tide to keep us on the fish. He's confident in his locations, but has plenty and if he's not seeing what he wants you'll be on to where you'll eventually put a smile on your face with the amount of fish hitting your line. This guy WILL get you on the fish. We caught our limit and had it all cooked up at a local place he recommended and it was awesome with leftovers for days. Oh, and let's not forget the Lemon shark my wife caught- 80lbs or so and the Bull shark I pulled in at about 100lbs. Overall, great memories we will never forget. This dedicated guy deserves your business and I'd be shocked if you'd find anyone better. You owe it to yourself to spend your money on someone who will come through and also has a good attitude. read more

Great time, great captain. He is always on the fish and a professional. my son caught a 5 lb snapper, he is only 10 and he reeled it in by himself. great times.. best fihsing trip read more

Capt Kevin is truly a professional and is a great teacher. He not only put us on the fish he also was very patient in instructing my two boys on technique. After an hour and a half we limited out on Mangrove snapper and then moved to another spot. We fished some wrecks and caught some Almaco Jack. After we finished we headed back to the dock and the fish were cleaned and bagged. Kevin is probably the best captain I've fished with and will no doubt use him again. My boys are already wondering when we can do it again. If you have any doubts please don't and book now! read more

Kevin knows his stuff and will find fish. Overall does a very good job but his patience and people skills could use some fine tuning.

Capt. Kevin is awesome! He knows his stuff and put us on great fishing spots. Even though the dolphin bite has been slow for the season, we still landed 6 dolphin with Capt. Kevin. In addition to the dolphin, we landed numerous tuna (one being a 24 pounder!) and a snowy grouper. If you are looking for a quality fishing charter, Capt. Kevin with Florida Keys Reel Adventures is it. We will definitely be back! read more

My two sons and I have gone out fishing and spear fishing with Kevin several times and always have a blast. This last trip had really terrible conditions however he was able to come up with options that really fit our capabilities. We fished, snorkeled, spear fished and had fun all day on a day when a lot of guides would not have gone out. I highly recommend Kevin and plan to use him in the future. read more
