My family and I recently moved up to the high dessert and our neighbor referred us to The Funky Poodle. Our fur baby, Milo, is the sweetest but tends to be really skittish around strangers. Getting groomed isn't his favorite, but he was way over due. I informed the staff that he's nipped at other groomers before but they were still willing to work with him. Milo surprisingly did great with his groomer (Skye) and came out looking amazing! Staff was wonderful and pricing is very affordable (paid $35- Milo is a little under 20 pounds). I had a 10:00 appointment and dropped off my Aussie.. After 3 hours no call, so I decided to check and was told groomer is at lunch and my dog has not been put on table. Around 130ish I got a call saying he was on table and to come get him. Upon arrival he was still on table and I was told his belly had to be shaved .. Aussie dogs aren't supposed to be shaved cause it ruins their coat. I specifically said cut down when I dropped him off, nobody asked me if it's ok to shave. We will never come here again! read more

Yesterday was the test..when I called up nearly on the verge of tears, four of them had killed a skunk the night before! Cheyenne and the girls were amazing! Walked in and the place smelt nasty, staff was friendly and so I figured okay why not try it out. They clipped and filed my babys nails and when I got in the car I i realized I had blood on my pants, they clipped my dogs nails down so much she had Stubbs NEVEr AGAIN WILL I GO THERE OR RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. My mom went in and told them they cut her nails down WAY too short and that our dog is bleeding and not one apology. read more

They did a great job on my long haired Shepard. He was matted, dirty, and honestly scared of groomers from past bad groomers. Other groomers took 6 to 8 hours to groom him and then would say I had to come back to finish. The funky poodle had him done in 4 1/2 hours, and completely done no coming back to finish. Took my baby Samson here about 2 months ago. He always loves going to the groomer and normally goes to Petco. This place took forever and when my husband finally got there to pick him up, they had trimmed his nails too short and he was bleeding and they couldn't have cared less. That's ridiculous. When Samson got home he was clearly distressed for a such dopey happy dog it was heart breaking. I will never go back there. Ive gone here for years with complete happiness. I let Cheyenne...the owners daughter, groom both my dogs at Christmas time. She royally screwed them both up. Half clipped head...nails not trimmed...jyst a shabny job. I contacted her and she said she would compensate me by doing a redo...on both dogs. I called today for that redo...as she promised...and was told oh you waited to long. BULLSHIT...she should have honored her promise and if nothing else groomed noth dogs for half price...she offered none of that. This isnt tbe only groomer in town...and tvank god for that. It's been very hot here in the desert so I took my beloved pup to get a much needed trim. The Funky Poodle comes well recommended from a friend of mine but I also thought to check out Yelp. The reviews were reassuring. I went for it and counted the time until Skye gave me a call letting me know Dunny was ready. I was more than satisfied by the results - she looks great! Skye made a couple of wise aesthetic decisions like leaving some hair on the tail long, but she cut the coat short just like I asked. Money is tight, but pets are family and I want her to be comfortable in the heat. When I got in the van with my dog in my arms, I turned to my friend and said "This is one of the best things I've spent money on all year." Pup's happy. Weirdo pup dad is happy. I'm so sad I dont know where to start. My Bolognese poodle has very soft but tight kinky curls about gets matted very easily so I know he takes some work but he usually feels so soft after a good bath and blowout and even smells so good. But not after today here it was our first time I'm so depressed his usual groomer for 6yrs had to retire do to her health. So when we got here i was doing my best to describe what style we like his cut to be and I had shaved him down already so there wasn't much cutting needed I had explained he needed his nails and sanitary grooming done but I wanted most the outside ear hair and they weren't even matted and I asked to keep as much tail as possible but he has lil short strings at the tip of his tail and the ears are choppy and not shaped well atall. I also specified I like him to not have a typical poodle shaved nose I prefer a shnauzer style go-T -beard and she clearly didn't understand because she didn't clean the hair on top his nose abd the beard wasn't cleaned atall there's hair hes chewing on still. And that leads me to the biggest problem I had was the way she handled my fur baby. I asked her to clean the ugly beard up by shabibg the top of his nose and some from the side's of his face and she had gripped his snout so hard and was clearly pulling his hair to keep him still I haf to ask her to let go it was painful to watch her chop away so roughly I almost started crying. I'm not very confrontational and I was late for my appointment and late picking him up so I did feel bad I left as quickly as I could but I left $60 for the service I was being charged $45 which I assumed came with a bath but I'm not sure he was bathed he would usually be white but he's still yellowed and feels powdery and rough. I'm very sad thats alot if money for him to not smell or feel good or look good even . read more

The Funky Poodle in Apple Valley, Ca. is closing it's doors on 5/28/2021 and it has been open for less than six months. The customer service is the worst ever and they do not stick to a designated time-line. They keep your dogs way to long for a routine grooming service. I cannot speak for the location in Hesperia because I have never been there. But, if they are affiliated they really need to retrain the staff on cleanliness and customer service the location is filthy and I am not surprised that they are closing. read more

Best groomer in the high desert. Staff treated our babies amazingly good, our puppies smell delicious and they came home happy.

We got a free grooming session for this location in our packet we got from the Hesperia shelter. All the girls were really friendly and were in love with my pup Roxie, as soon as we walked in. Not only did they accommodate an appointment that afternoon (I called about 10am), but when I called back to push it an hour later, they had no issues! When we got her back, she was so much more beautiful than she already was! Before: She had such dirty ears, rough hair, very long uncomfortable nails, and an overall shelter dog smell (even though we had washed and scrubbed her twice). After: Her ears were sparkling clean, her nails were cut perfectly, she smelled SO good I could smell her as she was walking around, her hair was so soft and cut to a good length, and to top it all off, she had an adorable flower on her collar! This groomer is about 40 min from us, but we definitely will bring her back! Not sure what the groomers name was, but I will edit and find out! read more

I have been coming here for more than 4 yrs now and every time I bring my dog they never cut her hair the way I want them too. But I don't say anything. However, this last time I took her, they had the audacity to tell me that they were going to increase the price because I didn't take her as often as I should. Why does that matter?! We always go here every time we want her hair cut. And yet again they didn't cut her hair the way we had requested it. What's the point in asking if they are going to cut it they way they want. I was friendly enough to leave a message but no one has called me back so this is my last resort. Also, at times they don't even know which dog is mine! Came here because it had decent yelp reviews but it was the worst experience ever!!! I asked for a trim and to keep my dog looking like a terrier and strictly told them I DO NOT want the teddy bear cut I came back and he had a teddy bear cut! I was furious! They said they'd fix it, so I came back and he was shaved all around his head and neck with a thick coated body. He looked deformed and awkward. My daughter cried allll the way home because our Dog looked ugly. I couldn't even tell if that was even my dog. My dog looked traumatized, upset and drowsy since we picked him up. NEVER AGAIN! I hate to say that it's taken almost 10 years for me to take our family dog to a groomer. I can happily say that streak has been broken today. Walking in you can tell that the place is owned by dog lovers. The doggie decor was quite adorable and with all the dog grooming and washing the place smelled quite pleasant. My family and I dropped our family dog Wicket who is a Pomeranian Pekingese mix to the staff who were very forthcoming and kind. I explained how I have never groomed our dog and had hoped everything would go well. After a few hours we came back to pick our boy up and I can say I was surprised and happy to see him looking dashing and happy to see us. I am very satisfied with the TLC they put into his care, and will definitely make it a routine to bring him back in a few months. I used to love this place. Started taking my maltipoo there in 2011, but ever since they got new help it hasn't been the same. First, another groomer clipped my baby on her body which caused a scab 2nd time, I specifically asked for the teddy bear face and ended up with shaved down ears. And they GLUED RHINESTONES ON HER EARS! I was so pissed, my baby hated them but they were so glued it took months for them to finally fall off. read more
