Callie's is one of the best places to visit with kids or on a rainy day in the Poconos. A cute little store filled with a large variety of tempting chocolates. We bought chocolate fudge, milk chocolate bark with crushed potato chips, chocolate peanut butter mini cups, red licorice, and milk chocolate nonpareils. My son bought 2 varieties of gummy candy. Everything was delicious and fresh. They have a wide selection of homemade chocolates. Warning, definitely don't visit if you're on a diet. read more

I came here on the way home from a camping trip at Spruce Lake Retreat. The candy kitchen is fairly close to Spruce Lake. I think as long as I'm able to get back to Spruce Lake with my church again I'll be stopping at Callie's again. I was with my father and my son. I am divorced, shortly after I filed for divorce I met mostly "winning candidates" and just got hurt more. So for now due to dating trauma, I've settled for losing a husband and gaining a grandpa with my dad. My dad is very nice. I don't expect him to pay but he picks up the tab most of the time anyway. I picked out milk chocolate covered pretzels, and assorted peanuts. My son picked out a plushy. My dad bought it all even though I was willing to pay. There is so much candy when you walk in here. So many choices and they have antique candy molds which is pretty interesting. The girl behind the counter was nice. The place is filled wall to wall with so many different choices of candy. I was surprised how big the store was when we wandered in. They have soooo much chocolate. The center and right two thirds of the building is all chocolate, in every sort of shape you can imagine. The left third of the building is more traditional candy. Some of the stuff looked very cool, but honestly, don't go any farther than the bark they have all up front by the counter. Who needs to dilute the best stuff or shape it into silly forms. Give me more of that bark - the mint bark, the dark chocolate, and the cookies n creme were the best. Located just a few minutes down the road from Skytop Lodge, this candy shop is worth checking out! The store is much larger than I expected. It's nicely organized with different rooms holding all kinds of goodies. They sell candy by the pound and candy that's packaged. They all look very appealing. We bought a bag of peanut brittle and I highly recommend trying this! The brittle tasted fresh and has a good crunch. Other treats we purchased were strawberry yogurt covered pretzels, sugar crystals, honey filled candy, and cherry sanded hearts. Next time, I'd love to try the potato chip bark. Callie's Candy Kitchen is a craft chocolaterie that opened in Bangor, Pennsylvania in 1952. It was founded by 19-year-old newlyweds Harry and Carol Callie. In 1972, the Callie Family moved the chocolate shop to its current location in Mountainhome in the Pocono Mountains. In the Poconos, the name Callie's has become synonymous with candy. Their chocolate and candy offerings have become very popular with locals and vacationers alike. The family also owned a pretzel factory which opened in 1985 but it closed down in 2019. My wife's cousins have a vacation home in the Poconos. It's just a short drive from Callie's, so we always make sure to stop by whenever we stay there. Every kind of chocolate or old-fashioned candy you could think of is at Callie's. The shop is loaded with fudge, chocolate truffles, crunch bars, caramels, chocolate-covered pretzels, chocolate-covered nuts, licorice, gum balls, saltwater taffy, peanut butter cups... the list goes on and on. They even had a Chocolate Museum on the premises which opened in the Spring of 2015. It celebrates the life of Harry and Carol Callie and showcases the art and history of candy making. There are several old machines and a huge collection of antique chocolate molds. Everything in the store looks so yummy that you'll want to buy it all. On our most recent visit we purchased some Peanut Butter Cups, Chocolate-Covered Marshmallows, Dark Chocolate-Covered Espresso Beans, Chocolate Lollipops, and some Chocolate Gift Sets to bring back for our son's teachers. It ain't cheap, but it's DELICIOUS!! Best candy around. Also, they used to have samples pre-pandemic that made the prices well worth it. I hope they;'ll bring those back eventually. Whenever I come visit my mom in the Poconos, Callie's is my first stop. Some of my favorite Callie's candy: chocolate covered gummy bears, chocolate covered chips, chocolate covered sunflower seeds, and their chocolate covered GRAPES are to die for. Everyone that works there is so nice and helpful. They also have a very interesting history that you can learn more about on the left side of the shop where they have all the chocolate making machinery. While on a mini vacation, we saw signage for this place, and ... ITS A CANDY STORE WE HAVE TO GO! It did not disappoint, in the least. The store boasts a little museum, which is mostly their old stuff -- they've been in business so long that they might be the reason why George Washington had wooden teeth. As such, you can see some of the really, really old chocolate moulds they used nearly a hundred years ago, the various presses and cutters, stamps, and all that fun stuff. Its worth a gander, but ... that's not why we are here. Their selection of various chocolates is top notch, with roughly ten gazillion variants, ranging from bon-bons filled with wine, to chocolate covered strawberries, to chocolate covered orange rind. In addition to their home made chocolate by the pound, they have pre-made variety packs, and a huge selection of any kind of candy you could ask for. Want those little hard sucker thingies that your grandmother kept in a dish and no one ever dared to eat? They've got them. Want sugar free? Its over there. Thirty-six inch long yardstick of gumminess? Got it. Bert's Every Flavour Bean? Those are fictional, sorry. Pro Tip: Their chocolate covered strawberries are way cheaper than at any of the local resorts. Just sayin'. The prices seemed reasonable to me -- its home made, small batch chocolate; you're not buying a hershey bar. The staff are friendly and helpful (the woman on the counter pretended to even find my "I want it all, just box it all up" joke funny, even though she's undoubtedly heard it at least twice before). We have lived in the Poconos over 14-years and went to Callie Candy for the first time today. Their chocolate and snacks are definitely good, and the prices are reasonable. What lacked for us - my family of four (that included a toddler and tween) - is that we were not welcomed (in every sense of the word) as we entered the store by the woman behind the counter. I said hello and was ignored  - I brushed it off as perhaps she did not hear me and I was wearing a mask so she didn't see my lips moving. The much older woman, whom I'm guessing was the owner was the only person who said a word to us but that occurred only about a few minutes of us being in the store plus she was ringing us up on the register. My husband even mentioned to her this was our first time there, and you'd expect the feedback would be "well welcome, try this chocolate, etc" - but no.  Maybe it was an off day for them - you want to give people the benefit of the doubt, right?  Wrong!  Many Caucasion only customers followed after us and we noticed that she (woman at the counter) immediately greeted them and asked if they needed assistance, quite pleasant, etc. (You get the picture) I paid for our chocolates/snack and we left - obviously never will return.  My husband and I joked in the car ride home that we should thank our toddler, because if it wasn't for her we would have been chased out - lol. Take away from our experience - Chocolate = Good / If a minority = Not Good It's very sad - but it is the reality of how some Caucasion owned businesses still are. Another good tourist stop in the Pocono Mountains. Now personally, I would much rather stop at their candy factory a little further down the road. But a stop here is fun, especially for the salt lovers. Callie's is a great family owned shop and they make homemade pretzels here. They usually have a small demo you can watch on making pretzels and a little history lesson. All fun, but the real prize are the pretzels. Their soft pretzels are fairly good. And I do enjoy their pretzel dogs. I have never been a fan of the pizza pretzels. Everyone else seems to love them though. More for them. My favorite thing here are the mixed bags of pretzel pieces. OMG I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!! Came here for the first time with the in-laws during our weekend Poconos R&R. The in-laws been steady customers for a while when they lived in PA and I've gotten these pretzels for Christmas so I can't wait to see THE pretzel factory these pretzels come from. Besides pretzels (soft & hard), they also have potato chips and popcorn. Not to forget is a small corner where they have items for left handed people. I got a witty mug for a left handed friend of mine. Anyway, I think we must have grabbed about 6 pretzel bites, a bag of chocolate covered pretzels, a bag of "burnt" kettle chips and a bag of caramel corn. The pretzel bites range from traditional flavor to other more unusual ones. My favorite is the jalapenos. Very tasty. We also got a soft pizza pretzel and a hot dog pretzel to eat there. The pizza pretzel is a big soft pretzel filled with pizza sauce. Not bad. My hot dog pretzel was alright, it was a hot dog wrapped with soft pretzel ... there really isn't anything to write home about it. Delicious, fresh pretzels for over 28 years. They make hard and soft pretzels on-site in a variety of flavors like apple cinnamon, bacon cheese, cinnamon sugar, everything (like a bagel) and even the classic salt. If you get a fresh pretzel, you'll be asked "would you like that warmed?" Get it warmed. It's so much better warmed. The apple cinnamon was a stuffed pretzel, so there was apple and cinnamon filling. Visitors can watch a brief video about how they make pretzels along with viewing a live assembly line. When we visited, they were making everything pretzels. Kids can practice making pretzel shapes, too. The only thing missing for adults is the beer. If pretzels and popcorn don't suit your tastes, have left handed items and souvenirs. Looks very promising from the facade of things, but pale beyond the veil. Went in, checked it out and then some. Got to try truffled chocolates, jelly rings and all sorts. Everything here tasted pretty tasteless, I was anticipating something delightful, but I lucked out. Most the selection here is overpriced and they charge not by assortment here, but by lbs. I believe that is not the best way to price your products, but that's just me. Jelly rings here were a bit stale and they were twice the price they are at my local bodega. We've been going every year since 2013 from Long Island,NY to the Poconos and alway stopping by Callie's Candy Kitchen. The store has a little museum. The price is reasonable. Quality is good however their chocolates are way too sweet I mean a caramelized popcorn covered milk chocolate. I know my chocolate very well as I am a chocolatier please lessen the sweetness. We couldn't get out of the house to try their sweets so we had a package shipped to us. Wow! I know this has little to do with the actual product but they packaged everything with such care. I am so impressed. Nothing was broken and smooshed. The care they put into their packaging is only outshined by how wonderful their candy is.
