I've taken both vehicles for various basic maintenance to Jake and Corey. Both are always polite and experienced. They are straight shooters and will not try to over extend themselves to rush a job or upsell. One such example was telling me they couldn't mount the tires with their given equipment because they were low profile and it could potentially damage the rim. Instead they gave me some recommendations for other shops with the proper equipment for the task. I would prefer this communication every time over the other way around. We've been taking our cars-- a late model and a newer Subaru to him for a few years now for just about everything-- oil changes, brakes, tires, exhaust... and to diagnose random noises no one else could figure out... and have never been disappointed. The A/C in my '04 Accord EX-L started to act flaky at the beginning of the summer in 2010. The car had about 136k miles on it when the problem started. I took it to 3 different shops (in Cambridge, Waltham, and Watertown) before a friend recommended Callahan's in Woburn. The first mechanic I took the car to in Cambridge suspected that it was the A/C compressor, but he was not confident in his diagnosis and therefore did not want to do a replacement and find out later that the problem was with something else. (I have to respect his honesty and professionalism.) He estimated that the repair would cost $1200 and suggested that I take my car to an A/C specialist. I visited a few other "A/C Specialists" who thought a simple recharge would do the trick. I even left my car with the Waltham shop several days only to find out that they not do any further diagnostics while I was gone. After a rather warm and humid summer in Boston, I was starting to consider just selling the car rather than drive in an oven. A friend referred me to Callahan's in Woburn. The owners, Jake and Holly Callahan, did a GREAT job in the following key areas. 1.) Treating me with respect and dignity... something I felt was lacking at the Waltham and Watertown mechanics. 2.) Letting me know exactly when they could schedule me in to give proper attention to the diagnosis of my car. 3.) After they took the time to diagnose the problem (bad clutch on the A/C compressor), we talked about repair options and their respective costs. 4.) Scheduled me to come back and drop the car off for the repair once the replacement parts were delivered. 5.) Presented me with a fair price (below the original $1200 I was quoted in Cambridge) Jake and Holly respected both my time and my wallet. Being fairly new to the Woburn area I needed a mechanic to fix the A/C in my Honda Accord. After going to Hogan's, who couldn't guarantee it it would be done that day, I found Callahan's on Yelp. After talking to Holly, who was both professional and super friendly, I took the car in and was guaranteed it would be done by the end of the day. Got a call 30 mins after drop off saying he wouldn't get to it until 12:00 and it would cost $140 to $180. At 1:40 I got a call from Holly saying the car was done and the total was $140.00. When I picked up the car, Jake explained what was wrong, what he fixed and how to prevent it in the future. All in all, great communication, follow through and customer service with everyone I came in contact with. BTW even a customer in the waiting room told how great they were and how I made the right choice picking them. I whole heartedly recommend them as a local family business that should be supported. Amazing shop. I called to have my car brought in for a check engine light. I told them I smelt fumes and they told me the next day. About an hour later I got a call back from them telling me they don't feel safe with me driving it. They don't have a loaner car, so instead Holly offered to drive me to work in the morning! They gave me a fair quote and had my car fixed the next day. Jake took the time to explain to me what was going on with my car and even showed me where where my fuel pipe had rusted away. Callahans's auto is great auto shop. Holly, the owner's wife, is extremely pleasant to talk. Holly worked very hard at finding me parts for an old Volvo I had when I needed the fuel pump replaced. The Volvo dealership wouldn't work on the car saying that it was too old. Jake Callahan did the job with no problem. It's hard these days to find an honest mechanic.
