California Kitchen is always consistent! The food comes out hot, fresh, and at a good price. Sometimes there's a bit of a wait, but that's because everything is made to order and worth it. My go-to is the buffalo ranch wrap with cheese fries. Absolutely delicious! There are lots of ways to order--at the window, by phone, online, or inside. TO THE OWNER!! Food was amazing!! Eni and Oz were very friendly and great! I am deducting 2 stars due to piecing. Grilled fish, rice and salad on the menu said $13.66. My total after tax came to $16.01. I asked Oz why it was different and price and he told me the boss tells him what to ring up and that he just follows his order. I understand prices may change, but I feel that should be told before the order is placed. The fish was cooked perfectly and the amount of food was great still for $16, but I feel they should address this issue with their menu and their prices! read more

This place, I wouldn't recommend to my enemy. The food was overcooked, and the portion was shockingly small. I ordered a shrimp Caesar salad. The guy taking my order asked if I wanted large or medium. I presumed he was talking about the size of the shrimp, so I just replied MEDIUM, PLEASE. When I got to place to pick up my order, I was pleased that it was ready, but slightly concerned by the size of the bag. Once I pulled away, after about 3 or 4 miles, I decided to look in the bag to nibble on one of the shrimps, I was SHOCKED by the actual size of the salad container. Try to imagine a Styrofoam container for something small, like a slice of cake, or leftovers from a small meal. My salad was placed in that, the lettuce was old, and the 5... 5 shrimp lying on top of the lettuce was so overcooked I just closed the container and immediately turned my car around to go back to the establishment. I calmly told the counter person, had I known that was the size of the salad, I would not have ordered it. And the shrimp was hard, and overcooked. I'd like my money back please. The guy left to go speak with the manager to discuss the delema, and I could hear him say, what does he want me to do? Its a salad.. what does he expect... get rid of him. IF ANYONE WANTS GOOD CHICKEN GO HERE! We are from Texas and this has got to be the best chicken we have had in Illinois. The outside looks unappealing but do not let this stop you! We called in our order and got there and waited in the drive through for maybe 15 minutes (because there were other cars) service was great, and they were very friendly! The absolute WORST place to buy food. The service person was rude and the food was over cooked when I asked them to open the container. I've had several bad experiences with them. But after this most recent incident, I felt compelled to share my displeasure. I don't know if they're stressed from being over worked, or if they really don't care. Either way, if I chose to spend my hard earned money with them, at the very least, I should expect to be treated kindly. The food is never all that good, anyway. But treating customers poorly, is the back breaker. I wont be going back...EVER. And if you choose to give them a chance, please hold them accountable.... LOOK AT YOUR FOOD BEFORE YOU LEAVE... Don't get home and find out later, that the food was sub par, like I've done a few times. And by the looks of things.....I wouldn't be surprised if they had varmint's running around in the back. No need to phone ahead they simply don't start your order until you arrive.Not to mention when your spending 15$ a meal an they want to charge you $2.59 for a cup of ranch is complete nonsense. Came in based on reviews and it did not disappoint. Like others mentioned don't go by the looks of the building. The food was amazing. We were a group of 8 visiting Springfield and we all ordered something different. I got the Italian beef w/fries, wings, and cheese curds. Yes, I know it's a lot for one but I really wanted to try the wings. Again the food was amazing. Everyone else said their food was good as well. Definitely worth the stop. read more

There's nothing California about this place. It's where you should go if you want fast food but you also want to #shoplocal. A huge and varied menu encompassing everything from burgers and fries to Mediterranean. Sometimes the drive-through can be awkward; like if your food isn't ready right away, they'll have you drive around again so they can take orders behind you, but it really doesn't add any time. There's a KFC and McD very close by, but if you want something different, try here. read more

I haven't been able to try much from here, but their Gyro meat and their fried chicken wings are amazing. Try the lemon pepper on the chicken! I'd say about 1 out of every 20 chicken wings will be just slightly dried out, but very good. Don't bother with their fries, nothing special. read more

When I heard the total for 25 wings and 14 jumbo shrimp, I felt like I was overpaying. Holy cow was that a lot of food. When y'all handed me that foil pan of wings, I was like "yeah, it makes a lot more sense now". Even though I said no to the lemon pepper, you gave me some anyway and encouraged me to try it. I'm glad you did, because it was fantastic. I've got plenty of leftovers and I'm already looking forward to having more. I was skeptical, but you made a believer of me. Thanks y'all. The Italian Beef, Italian Sausage, gyros, and kebabs here are amazing. Now, this place looks divey on the outside and inside. It is in a sketchy part of town and one might be adamant about going inside first. Forget about it and go in. The service is prompt, fast, and very polite. Everything I have tried here is good and it is definitely worth a stop if you are in the Springfield area. Restroom is out of the way and could use improvement. But there is a drive-thru. I finally tried this place after hearing how awesome their chicken is. Called and placed an order for 25 bbq wings and a chicken sandwich; big king debate about not wanting fries or drink. Arrived 30 minutes later and they hadn't even started my order. They took my order again (25 bbq wings and chicken sandwich) and had to go through the No fries, no drink thing. 15 minutes later they said "you want lemon pepper right?" I reminded them that no I asked for bbq wings...and they said well there's an extra charge for that. Wth. It took over an hour for my order and was $49 for 25 wings and a chicken sandwich. I've had better chicken wings almost anywhere and the chicken sandwich was basically a bunch of really crunchy breading. Then they gave me fries and drinks because they charged me for them; fries were the worst fries I've ever eaten...zero seasoning/salt and super dry; soda is generic No-name. It is a small place with indoor seating and a drive thru. I had a roast beef sandwich, Chicago style. That means dipped. It was pretty good. The menu looked more Chicago than California but it smelled good. Not too expensive but skip the fries. Soda is all canned but comes with the meal. Have eaten there several times. LOVE the gizzard basket and their homemade sauce. All of the items are normally very good, and you get a decent portion. There is normally the same foreign gentleman there and he is always so nice. Went today and there was an American lady at the window. Tried to tell me a gyro plate with 2 extra sauces was $18.18. I told her I didn't want it and pulled away! I normally pay the price because its close to home and decent food, but I don't think I will be back. read more
