Ken Mietzner at California Closets was fantastic to work with on our custom closet project for our new home -- primary closet, kids' closet, and guest room closet. He came out personally to take measurements, coordinated with the carpenter to help with scheduling and building making last minute adjustment when necessary, and sent detailed 3D renderings before we committed to anything, so we always knew exactly what we were getting. He worked around a tight water heater clearance in the guest closet, adjusted outlet placement for the vanity lighting -- Ken adapted every time without missing a beat, and even offered value-engineering options to help manage cost. He was easy to reach, patient through several rounds of revisions, flexible about meeting virtually or in person, and clearly knows the technical side of these builds down to the last detail. The finished closets turned out beautifully -- thoughtful, well-organized, and exactly what we pictured. Highly recommend Ken and California Closets to anyone who wants a design partner who listens and works with you and your specific set of details. read more

Working with Sam Tabatabaei was a fun experience. Designing the closets on the computer gave me an immediate idea of how they would look. She was helpful with ideas to make them more usable. The installation went very smoothly & the fellas were able to finish in about eight hours. read more

Silvia, the California Closets representative as well as the installers did an outstanding job. We're thrilled with our new closet.

The designer understood our needs and made really helpful suggestions to solve our storage issues. The installation was less than a day. The installers clean up after themselves perfectly and we couldn't be happier with our new closet spaces. Will definitely use them again read more

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this company; both customer service-wise and product-wise. I was shopping around for a company to remodel several closets in my condo and less than thirty minutes after I requested a quote from California Closets, I got a phone call in response. I spoke to a rep who was extremely friendly and scheduled an appointment with Design Lead Stephanie. She came out and was very thorough in her measurements and making sure that she understood what I wanted. When she told me the final price, I was shocked because I expected it to be a lot more. And believe me it was well worth the price. My install was scheduled for December 15th from 8-10. The Installers (Victor and Daniel) arrived at 815 and went right to work. They were friendly, respectful of my home and very knowledgeable. They worked quickly and by 2:30 they had finished my two bedroom closets, my guest room closet, my entry way closet and my laundry room. The change in my home is absolutely incredible. PReviously my condo was extremely lacking in closet space, even though the closets were large. It wasn't well designed at all. Two of the closets I couldn't even use until yesterday due to no means of hanging clothing items. My large bedroom closet had two accordion doors; onie of which was taken off about six months ago because it was being repaired. At the suggestion f my friend, I had the installer remove the remaining door. I cannot believe how open my bedroom is! I'm considering removing the accordion doors on my other bedroom closet and my guest room closet to really open up the space. Normally I would find that idea crazy, but these closets are so beautiful that it's almost like having built in shelves. I also have four drawers in my large bedroom closet, which means more places to put my socks and my pajamas. And I love finally having a shelf on which to put my towels (since the bathroom wasn't built with any sort of shelving. I've lived in my home for three years and eleven 1/2 months and this project had been on my wish list since I moved in. I don't even want to think about how much money I spent on storage solutions (bins, baskets, carts, over-the door hooks, etc) in all that time. I am happily going to donate it all and use what I can on the shelves. I am so appreciative of what California Closets did for me. I plan on leaving a review on their site as well, but I wanted to express my gratitude here. Normally decluttering and putting things away is a pain and a chore. Those days are long gone. Thank you, California Closets. Thank you so much read more

Highly recommend working with Manjul She spent HOURS helping us to create the perfect design for our small space. Including planning around the awkward attic door. She was so kind and patient even when we changed up the design. Steve also did a fantastic job installing everything and wore a mask the whole time. Thank you! Quality, soft close/full extension drawers, and a lifetime warranty...worth every penny FYI I have not been into the physical store but will have to check it out. read more

I've had 2 experiences with California Closets; one for my own home and the other for my parents house, both experiences were great! My parents experience was about a decade ago, so I'll stick to this latest experience. In May I made the decision to make my life easier by organizing the two bedroom closets in my home. My new home had significantly less closet space compared to the place I rented for ages, so this was quite an adjustment for me. I have ALOT of clothes and shoes. Yes, simpler cheaper solution is to get rid of things! But I empty my closets out quarterly and donate bags of clothing, so this was a much larger issue. I went onto the CC website and requested a free in home quote and was immediately scheduled for something the following Sunday. Laura was great through the whole process. She came prepared with color samples and we arrived on 2 designs that would maximize the space in my smaller bedroom closets: I even went a bit fancy with the bedroom design and added a cabinet because the doors in the show room were SO beautiful. I lucked out and there was a Memorial Day sale going on. I got a great deal on the two designs (roughly $2k) and got scheduled in July for installation. Keep in mind summer time is super popular for housework, so wait times for installation might vary. My delay to installation was partially due to the backlog, but I could have gotten in earlier on the books if it weren't for business travel. Regardless, the process was great. The installation was a breeze. Note you have to remove all previously installed shelves and closet doors ahead of your installation. Mine had been popped out before my trips so when my installation guy arrived he was able to get right to work. Installation took about 3 hours and I loved how efficient he was ( I wish I remembered his name for a shout out). They have wonderful options in the store room to help you get inspired! I'll be coming back to them when I upgrade from condo to home in a few years! read more

I have been a 8 years CaCloset customer and I had multiple 10k+ design installed. Overall, I like their design and I assume I have been working with the top quality closet design company. Please also set your expectation correct. Your California closet project can easily take 1 YEAR to complete. And my most recent case was 2+ YEARS.My living project of bookshelf looks amazing but still waiting for a wrapup after two years(since 2019 Nov). Here are some catches: 1. There are three groups of people you are working with. Designer, engineer, and installer. Designer offers you pretty rendering and tells you everything is possible. While engineer will evaluate and refuse the impractical design. Even engineer approved, whether the parts are correctly ordered and the installer can do the job is another story. 2. AVOID Flip down door. As simple as the one you find in kitchen cabinet, Designer saying there is hardware A, Engineer approved, while the installer saying there is nothing like it and installed hardware B. And it was nothing like soft opening and was able to shake the whole shelf off. 3. CAREFUL ABOUT Push-to-Open door. There are at least two types of hardware and they may mix them during installation. Make sure they are using the same type unless you want to open each door with a different push. 4. Check the material origins. The custom door I chose is produced in Europe. So one mistake of the installer would cost me 3+ months waiting for a replacement. 5. Seattle Service Admin(who schedule the installation) is super unresponsive. I scheduled 8+ installation over 2 years and there was never a time the call went through. By email, consider yourself lucky if you can get an email reply within a month. read more

Cindy Tan (Designer) Cindy was extremely helpful and detail-oriented! I appreciate the way she went above and beyond to make sure that everything tailored to what my family desired for the design. I am familiar with how challenging it may be to satisfy the customer wants and requirements especially in this industry. I'm delighted that there are still individuals like Cindy who go above and beyond to ensure that a product satisfies client expectations. She invests a lot of effort into making sure your requirements are taken care of, and her ability to work well with individuals makes her exceptional at what she does. She puts in a lot of dedication, and I give her a 10 out of 10. She did a fantastic job of letting me select the products and design elements I desire, and she made sure they were high-quality, dependable as well. As a consumer, i was really worried about how much i would spend. However, Cindy's marketing skills and knowledge of price competitiveness other than California closets made it comfortable going with this company. She has fantastic sales and customer service, timeliness, and excellent communication! What more do I need? Again, many thanks and I hope to do more business with this company because of Cindy. Having found California Closets online through recommendations, I had thought these guys would be brilliant. The designer (Michelle) was amazing, the installers (Angel and Garret) were fantastic... the process was terrible and the closets still aren't finished!!! After designing & signing the contract we payed the 50% deposit in the middle of May '24 & we waited for an install date. We received the date (6weeks to make the closets) of June 21 2024 (seemed good). So we moved the house around significantly to ensure the closets could be carried in and brought to the 2 install bedrooms upstairs. We also cleaned out our kids bedrooms & pack away all their clothes ready for the 21st. CC confirmed install on the 20th June however on the morning of the install (21st) we were told their installers were sick and they wouldn't be able to install the closets. We were given the new install date 1 MONTH LATER... The new install date was set for JULY 22!!! After numerous discussions with the CC scheduler, they said there was nothing they could do. The contract I had signed also says they have 30days AFTER their scheduled install date to install the closets... so we just had to wait until they had the people to send! Honestly we understand if someone is sick, however having to wait 4 more weeks wasn't good business practice. We had the house pulled apart & the kids rooms dismantled & clothes packed away ready for new closets! We paid $9,00+ for 2 basic closets & in our opinion, this was not good customer service by any stretch of the imagination. Now finally today was the NEW install. The installers were great, kind, funny and knowledgeable. However the new issue... they weren't given all the parts!!! 3 draws and 3 left draw runners were missing from their install equipment! And unfortunately I have zero idea when the missing draws will be arriving. I thought going with a big company would be good service and great quality, but unfortunately we are pretty disappointed with the whole process. read more

We a bad experience where CC cancelled one of the cabinets after we signed the contract. A few weeks after we signed the contract, we were told they needed to cancel one cabinet due to an AC unit above it not having enough clearance. We were hugely disappointed since we spent so much time iterating on the design and that was a main piece we wanted to get. And why wasn't this mentioned before we signed the contract? Despite that, we tried to come up with options since we really wanted that cabinet. We offered to sign a waiver to get it installed, which they eventually agreed to. As a result, the installation was delayed a few weeks as well. We complained to the manager about it but she brushed us off with internal processes and cut me off a few times during the phone call. She said sorry but it doesn't seem like she really gets how frustrating the experience is, or there are any plans to improve the process to prevent this from happening in the future. When things don't go right, the better thing to do is to help customers find solutions and acknowledge that things went wrong and try to improve that. CC disappointed me. I would say the designer we worked with was very professional and we'll see how the closets turn out to be when we get them. read more

UPDATE: After writing this review, the business reached out to get someone out to fix the floor, refunded some of the cost and I chose to address the door damage myself due to weather. I am satisfied with this outcome. First I want to note my contract has the Kent address but all correspondence has come from Bellevue and when I called they told me Seattle/Bellevue/Kent were the same so I'm leaving my review here and will move it if needed. I used California closets for many rooms about 18 years ago and it was great. This time it wasn't. Starting with the designer who I told I specifically went with them because everything could be up off the floor. She told me that it wouldn't be possible in the office which I agreed, but then it's on me that I assumed the primary closet would be off the floor. It was not and I did not look close enough at the contract to see that. Then we took the most basic shelving to try and get it in a somewhat timely manner. We signed the contract on 10/13/23 and it was finished after two trips on 12/14/23. The first trip started when the installer came in my front door by pushing it open with the end of the shelving and banging up my new door. Then while one installer did the closet, this same installer worked in the office and left a huge scratch on my new floor with his tool box. Then said he couldn't finished due to damaged product. This took all morning. When a different person came back to finish the job he was much better. $10,950 for primary closet and 3 office bookcases. read more

I have used and been very happy with California closets and my designer . Today I happened to be in the bellvue area and stopped in. I was astonished that the women working with a client, never once said hello, acknowledged me in any way. I walked through the show room. Took pictures of ideas. Held a product to purchase but could not get the attention of the woman on the floor. Put the purchased i wanted back on the shelf. If I didn't want their product i would never again work with them. read more

I have so much appreciation for this outfit. They donated the most beautiful closet for us homeless folks here at Helen's Place. Thanks to their kind generosity, we now have a closet full of beautiful clothing items to choose from to rebuild our lives with dignity and grace. The closet is the stepping stone to helping women in our shelter find items that make them feel good inside, and uplift them into finding a brighter future which one prays will not involve homelessness. Thank you California closets for caring about us. We are so blessed to have people like you who aren't afraid to get out there and do something good. Giving for the sake of giving is rewarding work but receiving the gifts from generous donors like you is the reward that keeps giving for generations. Thank you for your service. :) read more

We thought we went to the best. We only heard good times about California Closet however we were deeply disappointed. The beginning started out okay. We started by going to the showroom to arrange an appointment for an estimate. Later that week the estimator came out to our house to take measurements. Everything seemed to go smoothly. We turned a den into a walk in closet. Day of installation, the installers scratched our precious fir floors (which we begged them to be care with). We thought these were professionals and did not need our supervision. We were sadly disappointed for when we return from our outing to find the closets installed but a few things were off. 1. The light switch was covered by the closet paneling. 2. The drawers did not close cleanly 3. Soft close was missing from all the drawers and the cabinet doors 4. The drawers inserts were missing 5. The Shoe rack was backwards. When I asked our contact person about the issues she said it was all correct and measured to size. When I inquired about the light switch missing she said she will have the carpenter remedy it. When she said remedy it, she meant they cut finger holes into the sided of our cabinets so we can stick my fingers into to turn the lights on and off. When I ask her to return since the "finger hole" switch was unacceptable and to remedy the other issues as service recovery she gave us a cheap California closet bag and two snickers. I rather get some of our money back. My husband was tired of this mess and wanted to be done with it. I will never work with California closet again. They were overpriced for their quality, the customer service was dismal, and I cannot how they can provide such poor customer service and quality for the amount of money we spent. Never again. read more

I went into this process totally blind and absolutely love the results! I was nervous about not knowing what to ask for but the beauty of CC is that they have experts that operate almost like mind readers and they figure out your needs (based on expertise) and they visualize and then draw up a sketch of possibilities. All in minutes! We had a consultation arranged after I made a call and just a few days later a woman named Shaun came to meet with us. We showed her 3 different closets with 3 different needs and together we worked through how to maximize the space. It's really as simple as saying, "For this closet we need shoe storage, storage for cleaning products, storage for tools and heavy items, and no clothing storage." And for another closet, "We need lots of clothing, some drawers and then we don't know..." To which Shaun would say, "Ok - typically people look for places to put luggage. Do you have somewhere for oversize items? What about the need for a tie rack or jewelry storage?" She asked all the right questions and the result was a mock-up of three totally amazing closets. So where before we had 3 large empty spaces with just a single coat rail, now we have 3 incredible, handsome-looking custom closets. Our entryway closet has shoe and coat storage, plus room for large items like a vacuum and mop, room for heavy items on shelves like a toolbox and large pots/pans, etc. The second bedroom closet is also an office-space so we just needed basic storage and shelves for games, misc. home stuff, luggage, and small amounts of clothes. Then the master closet has two levels of hanging space, a built-in dresser, and added shoe storage. All three are totally different and meet each need we specified during the meeting. We selected everything from the depth of the shelves to the color of the wood being used. This process was so easy yet so complex in that there are truly an infinite number of options. The install finally happened just earlier this week and we're so in love. I have been opening the closets just to admire them! For the first time in my life I have storage just the way I need it. In fact, it's so well done and CC helped us maximize the space so well that we have EMPTY SHELVES! We'll be able to grow into this new home and always know that everything has a place and a shelf to live on. Such a great feeling. I highly, highly recommend CC. read more

I bought a very expensive murphy bed unit from the Bellevue store about 10 years ago for an upstairs bedroom. Two years ago, the plastic coating started peeling away from the particle board on drawer edges and the sides of the bed unit. I was not confident with particle board construction; I've seen a lot of particle board furniture tossed away on the roadside and at the dump, but the salesperson convinced me their construction methods were sound and the plastic coating sealed the particle board and prevented any off gassing of the formaldehyde used in construction. Not so. Now I have to figure out how to get this junky thing off the wall for disposal. read more

Simply a cut above the rest. I had California Closets in both of my houses and they've really held up well to all the abuse they get. They look as good as the day we installed them. We actually have California Closets systems in all of our closets and our home office, as well as our basement "entertainment"/kids rec room. If we had a pantry or garage we'd have it there too, but we don't live in a big suburban hose. Not as cheap as some offerings, but they use good quality materials, hire their own installers (a lot of places subcontract out) and offer a lifetime guarantee. I also like that we got a custom solution designed for our space, not just a bunch of pieces that come "close" to fitting, or that I had to pick from a list of pre-built section sizes. They've been in business for 20+ years - it's nice to know someone will be there should you have a problem or should you want to add on another closet. Oh, and although they're backed by a big national company, each location is an independently owned franchise, so you're supporting a local business. The location is a bit of a misnomer, because that's just the warehouse. The showroom, if you want to see the product in real life, is in Bellevue, across from Overlake Hospital by Kasala and Merry Go Round. Full disclosure - We actually liked the product and the company so much that my wife took a job there, but this was after we'd already had the product installed at both houses, so I feel qualified to review it here :-) read more

We used California Closets to redo our master bedroom closet. It literally had a bar and a shelf from one wall to the other and was completely nonfunctional. Diane was our designer, and she came out to meet with me and see what we wanted. I actually had her look at three different spaces in our house, but in the end, we ended up just doing the master closet. She did a great job giving me exactly what I asked for. After reviewing her mock up with my husband, he wanted a couple changes and she was able to do a new mock up with no problems (along with the next few changes we needed). The installer that came out was ok, he wasn't very personable. He called me at 7am that morning and said that he didn't know why he wasn't scheduled to be at my house until 12:30, because his morning job was only going to go until 9am. I think you should be asking your scheduling department that, not me. So he wanted to come early, but I was unable to be home until about noon due to a previous appointment. He sounded really annoyed and told me he would be there at 11:30. Knowing I wouldn't be home until closer to noon, I told him that was fine, he would just have to wait for me. He was blocking the majority of my driveway when I got home (I would think he would have offered to move), and didn't even say anything to me when he got out of his van. I brought him inside and showed him where the closet was (upstairs). We have baby gates at the top and bottom of the stairs because we have two toddlers. He asked if I could take them down, and I apologized because I couldn't. He then told me "well it's going to take me twice as long to carry everything in then". Sorry buddy, but my toddlers aren't able to navigate the stairs just yet and I don't want them falling down them today. The install went good though, it looks great and I'm overall very happy. read more

California Closets demonstrated incompetence across all levels of their organization. Almost every one we had to contact with throughout a multi-week ordeal lacked professionalism and any concern about our experience. What should have been a one day install turned into a multi-week ordeal. Some of the main problems include: failure to complete a job on time, difficulty of scheduling a followup to complete the job, installing parts with blemishes, and creating a flawed design which overlooked prominent features in our closets such as air vents. The job was such a problem that I had to escalate to the General Manager who was unable to ameliorate the situation and only offered a $500 refund for this fiasco. In addition the basic business model is flawed: they will only remove and install closets but not fix doors or touch up where older material was removed. Find a good local carpenter and avoid these clowns. read more

Don't waste time and money: very low quality material, very bad service, over 6 months for a bookshelf, left incomplete, prices extremly high for quality and service. Six months after order and 4 in home visits including attempts to install, missing parts, wrong parts, pieces on some truck that nobody knew where it was, left incomplete waiting to try to schedule some other appointment. At the first attempt to install, shelf sagging: asked about it, the installer responded that the lenght is excessive for such a thin piece of wood. In the picture attached, see sagging shelve: the TV is NOT sitting on the shelf, it's mounted to the wall. The shelf was sagging as soon as it was installed and the TV was NOT there. The designer did not mention any possible problem, either she didn't know, or she decided to withokd that information. Either way it's bad all toghether. Over six months later and needing to move, don't need this very expensive incomplete thing anymore. Just save yourself time and money, skip to some other company more professional and trustworthy. read more

Whole project took multiple call backs, three Xs as long as should have, Krikes, it was a sideboard not The Great Wall people. On the upside, they do have a lifetime warranty, the materials and fit are very good (once they get it spec'd right)and while I did walk away with a 75% satisfaction on the job, that 25% "shoulda been" vexes me, yes, vexes me it does. For our master closet we shopped around before deciding to go with CC. While other places were cheaper, they were just not able to provide us with the custom look we wanted. Our designer at CC, Stephanie, was extremely helpful in asking all the right questions. We realized there were things we wanted but hadn't thought of, like a full length mirror, a belt rack, and hampers. These things didn't add significantly to the overall price but have greatly helped us be that much more in love with our closet. Stephanie drafted three designs for us with different price ranges and we ended up going with a combination. Redrafting the design was a piece of cake for her. The entire process from beginning to end was extremely fast and smooth. read more

We loved our experience. We were a little worried at first because the California Closets brand is so positive that we were thinking it was going to come at a premium price. yes, it was a little more, but not as much as we thought and definitely within the range. We decided to splurge because we thought the brand and built in look would add more value to our home. And boy, are we glad we did! It's beautiful. It was so easy, from the minute we talked to our designer, she was fast (because we were ready - like yesterday) and she stayed late to show us our designs in the showroom. We didn't feel pressured, but we felt special. And the installation was great. Our designer pulled a few strings to get us a quick installation. The guys showed up and they were incredibly polite and professional. They made quick work of it even when the power went out! We were having a pretty bad storm that day and a transformer went out, but the guys were prepared with their own generator and just kept right on working. Even with as many times as they had to go back and forth in the weather to get parts, they never got so much as a dirt particle in the house. Always taking off their shoes and being careful on our new hardwood floors. We were so pleased from A to Z. California Closets is the premium choice. read more

We recently contracted CC of Bellevue for the Master closet of our new condominium at Insignia Seattle. While the unit is amazing, the design and space limitation of the closet proved challenging. Shaun met with me within days of my reaching out, and very promptly got back with a mock up and quote. The installer was gracious enough to squeeze us in with existing installations in the building for an expedited completion date. He dusted and vacuumed thoroughly after he was done, and took time to review proper care and warranty of the product. I highly recommend this team and appreciate the great customer service. read more

We were building a new house and needed all the closets done - master, pantry, coat closet, all the bedrooms, and two built-in bookcases. The whole process was seamless from beginning to end. We worked with an amazing designer, Allison I. I had vague ideas of what I wanted done and she designed the heck out of our closets and made my ideas not only come to life but a million times better than I could've ever imagined! She helped me to design some very unique/cool aspects that I didn't know could be done - like the butcher's block countertop inside the pantry, or the large mirror in the master bedroom that opens up to additional shelving. She was such a pleasure to work with - I'd highly recommend her for any design project you have in mind. She's super friendly, professional, and has a lot of great ideas. Part two was the installation. The guys that came were super fast in their work and very professional as well. They did an amazing job. Everything just looks so beautiful and so professionally installed. They showed up on time each day and were very polite, friendly. All in all, we're super happy with the results! read more

Yikes! Just had my office shelving/desk space installed on Nov. 13th 2018 and what a six hour goat rodeo! This morning, my office still smells like an ashtray from the installer (no smoking in our home), there is saw dust on our driveway, wrong colored door pulls installed and an opening for a paper shredder that is way too small for my needs (all of the specs were reconfirmed in September prior to the installation). I only chose California Closets for the shelving finish (as prices are very high compared to the other two bids that I received for the office space). There should have been two installers at the house, as with the other companies that have worked in our house for previous closet shelving jobs. This was a poor decision on my part and now I am in the process of having to work with California Closets to make this right. Never again...beware read more

My closet is now the best part of my house. I only have the best things to say about my experience with California Closets in Seattle. The price - I got three bids, one from an online designer, a local Seattle company (very nice), and California Closets. California Closets was more expensive, but the quality and the design were significantly better than the other two. The designer worked with me to reduce cost a bit by changing a few finishes. The design - Amazing. I don't even need dressers anymore. It made maximum use of the space, considered the inches of hanging space needed, quantity of shoes, and volume of folded clothes. It also worked around a tricky window, keeping lots of natural light. The designer - Grace has a clear talent for organization and design. She created something that uses the space, coordinates with other fixtures in my house, and looks like a custom piece of furniture. She was responsive and helpful as we refined the design. The installation - Lui was great! He was quick and left my house cleaner than when he got there. He did a beautiful job with some custom cutting to maintain access to a utility panel in the back of the closet. He also showed me how all of the features adjust. read more

Very customer-oriented. Got a great price on closets, had some install issues, however they really bent over backwards to make it right coming out for a few trips and never stopped trying. I would gladly recommend them and I've had positive experience calling them for some additional wood to match for other projects. They delivered with no issue and even wanted to cover it on them just to keep the relationship. Thanks! read more

Fabulous! From meeting Jaelyn at the showroom all the way to completion of installation, it all went smoothly and customer service was terrific. The scheduling of installation was friendly and easy. The installers, Paul and Shane were friendly, efficient and left the place clean. Jaelyn has been great in following up to make sure everything is to our satisfaction. Kudos to everyone! read more
