So I decided to make the journey to Pasadena to shop for a Valentine's Day Gift. Everyone who worked at California Cactus Center was extremely helpful and pointed me in the right direction for what I was shopping for. It is really easy to get lost with their amazing selection of succulents. To make your life easier, use the locations price sheet. Not too many plants have prices but have alphabet tags. I can't recommend this place enough! The staff working here is extremely helpful. Typically I show them my cactus goal or a ridiculously expensive plants that I somehow managed to pick out, and they are always so helpful to find an alternative for me. Additionally, you can pick out your own pots and rocks and they will plant them for you. The staff here is highly educated and provides a lot of of guidance and recommendations that help with the longevity of your plant. They care and it truly shows. read more

Place is great if you're just coming here to admire the way the cactus are staged in the pots. Other than that, they have a good assortment of succulents and cactus that are reasonably priced. For items without a price on the tag, they have charts with prices listed according to alphabet tags, except these are all pretty overpriced. Do your research before you come here. This place is a wonderland of succulents and cacti. They have a huge selection of plants and all at reasonable prices. I love coming here to explore their selections and never had any problems with pests or quality. The owners are all wonderful people, they are so helpful and knowledgeable. They also have a selection of various tillandsia's, handmade planters, decorative rocks, tools, and much more. Highly recommend their cactus soil, I've used it for years and all the plants seem to really enjoy it. I came here recently to have them help me repot one of my treasured plants that I was too scared to repot myself. They did such a wonderful job and it looks like it is worthy of being a showpiece. The repotting service is just a couple of dollars and you can select which decorative rocks you want to top the soil with. Highly recommend coming here! There are plenty of rare and exotic cacti here that keep me drawn to this place. I've only been to the CA Cactus Center once. I was very impressed at first sight... WOW... this family owned nursery has an amazing variety of cacti and succulents. Just a beautiful and quaint place to visit! The plants are in very good condition. The arrangements are gorgeous. I bought a handful of them. Here's a tip... make sure you ask the staff about how to maintain the cacti and succulents... How often to water them? How much sunlight to give them? Indoor or outdoor placement? Prices are decent. The special arrangements are slightly more expensive probably due to the hand-made planter. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They know their cacti! Trust that you are in good hands. Ask your questions. They will have answers for you. Parking is tight in front of the center. I think there is additional parking somewhere on the side or on the streets, but I'm not 100% sure. Check them out when you're in the area even if you're not a cacti person. Love the family owned nursery. They really do carry a lot of different Varieties of cacti and succulents! There is a wide range of prices to fit everyone's needs. Currently, they are only open Friday to Sunday from 10am to 3pm. I picked up a unique hawthornia and pink sand rose plant. Hopefully they are happy and healthy! I just reported both since they are winter growers. The staff provide great tips if you have questions and they also sell their own potting soil, rocks, pots and other decor. I had been looking for a yucca whipplea plant and couldn't find it. California cactus center is pricey but decided to look there. I'm very glad I did. I found out that the whipplea flowers and dies after about 10 years. So, I purchased something similar...yucca long(something) from them. Similar look, but slower grow, and a better look. An 8 year old plant was $ 325...looks great in our drought tolerant yard. read more

Family run and owned since the 70's, one can quickly see that they are prideful in their work. I felt like treating myself today, but wanted to be certain that I could manage my purchases. The owners spent quite a bit of time with me answering questions and reassuring me that I am fully capable of nurturing these beautiful plants. They are knowledgable and very receptive to offering suggestions in regards to planting in the ground or keeping your purchase potted. In steps Bob. He planted two of my purchases at the recommendation of the owner. The owner helped me pick out the pots and led me to the mastermind. He did a great job planting my cactus / succulent and did it quite artistically using complementary rocks to finish the job. I couldn't be happier that I stopped by and checked out the inventory. It is all splendid. How much you want to spend is up to you, but it is on the pricier side. Many things are discounted if you buy more than one, just ask. Was just ok for me, have no idea what I was expecting a lot of their plants are not in good condition and a lot of the have an infection of some sort. But this spot is great for the collectors or hard to find. The regular cactus that you can find anywhere are more expensive. Went to look for Desert Rose and they had 1 left in the 6 inch pot. I also purchased a 4 inch pot and the bloom will be white according to the tag. Very friendly and helpful service and she answered all my questions about the plant. The 6 inch pot has the pink and white flower and ever since I placed it directly in a sunny location the flower started to bloom nicely. I will eventually be planting them in the ground. read more

I had the greatest experience at California Cactus Center this afternon. My mother and I went in looking for a couple of plants for the guest house patio (it gets tons of sun and NOTHING has survived); we thought maybe some cacti might work in the relentless SoCal sun. Molly was quick to greet us and spent quite a while talking with us and learning about our space and what shapes and sizes we were looking for. CCC has some exquisite plants and some well above our budget, but Molly was great helping us find the things we wanted in prices that weren't crazy. She then helped us pick pots, stands, and small stones for additional presentation. Their design and transplanting services helped us make sure were were putting our new friends into their new homes the right away and making them look REALLY nice. I loved the experience and would strongly recommend this place for a great selection and exceptional service! I'll be back! read more

This place is literally the bomb. I spent my whole morning searching for a cactus for one of my art shows at the LA Flower Market, and no luck. I drove up here to California Cactus Center and within ten minutes found the one of my dreams. The ladies who helped me were seriously so sweet and helpful. I was in quite a rush and they worked with me to get it packed safely in my car by a very helpful gentleman. I highly, highly recommend this place. Visited this cute little nursery on a Sunday not really looking for anything specific. It's just up the street from my apartment, tucked right next to a Starbucks. The parking lot has about 4 spots at most and backing out into the busy street can be tricky, so look for street parking if you can. The selection of succulents and desert plants were amazing! These are the ones I usually see at botanical gardens but cannot find at Home Depot. (As you probably guessed already, I'm no expert gardener.) I love starting with seeds or baby plants and watching myself succeed at growing them. This place didn't have seeds, but had plenty of young plants (starting at $5). The staff are very knowledgeable and spend the time to explain how to care for each plant. They make recommendations on what you want and don't try to sell you anything additional. I'd definitely suggest dropping by, even if you don't buy anything, to at least see the beautiful plants this place has. I ended up with 2 cute succulents and excited to see them grow! read more

Truly one of the best spots for cactus and succulents. You want that rare plant? They got it. They don't got it? They'll get it. My only qualm about this place is that although it's not unreasonably expensive, it is more expensive than other places I have been to. For example, a Baja rock fig is more expensive here than Mickeys plants in Weho. But , they have all the cacti here. Mickeys is more of a houseplant place lol. I like how you can get artisan local pottery here at a reasonable price. They do good potting here and have many rock dressings to adorn the top of your plants ! Great shop with lots of desert/drought tolerant plants....largest variety I've seen anywhere. The employees are incredibly nice, helpful and friendly (looks like a family run business). They have unique pots and ready made creations too. All pretty! They have a small parking lot in front of the store which is nice as it's a busy street. This nursery is family owned. ::Experience:: We were looking for specific succulents to plant in a small pot. There were several to choose from and some were already nicely put together. They also sell different kinds of colored rocks to top off your plant. We saw so many, big, small, furry, bright, and sharp cactus. The first time I came here, I was looking to start my collection of succulent babies. Large collection of different types of succulents, cactus, and tillandsias (air plants). I saw that they also had lithops (split living rock type of succulent). They do sell christmas/easter cactuses too, though the ones I bought last year didn't bloom this year (still figuring out what happened). They have some really tiny Echeveria ones in 2-3" pots ($4.95 and up) and up to some large statement plants like agave and braided sansevierias. They do carry some rare types, I chose a ghostly looking succulent that was a rare type from Africa. The lady was willing to tell me that the pale, ghostly looking one I chose was almost $25-$30 for a single succulent and asked if I still wanted it. I didn't buy it since she told me it's really fragile and sensitive to the touch.They're seem well informed on how to care for the different kinds that they carry and were helpful since I had asked some questions on how to care for a specific type I bought. They also explained to me how to re-pot and how often to water succulents. The plants were a bit more expensive but they were well taken care of than other locations I've looked at. You can buy pots that are arrangements just to be brought home, some that I liked were around $30 that were on the small side. They're willing to pot your purchases if you bring your own pots. I brought some of the pottery that I had made that was gathering dust in my closet and wanted to put a plant in them. I also got a glass bottle for a floating terrrarium ($6.95). Their colored rocks are $2 and they also fill it with pumice for great draining. The guy who did it was nice and was willing to carry my two large arrangement potteries to my car that was parked out on the street. Now that I have them for over a year, they're still in great condition though I had to re-pot some of them due to them growing too big. They take card, the staff was nice.
