Where is my chicken?! Such a pitiful wrap
    Christiana N.

My food was fresh - and it was also SO disappointing. The amount of chicken in the Chinese wrap should be a crime for nearly $20. It isn't even worth $10. Where is the protein?! I unfortunately won't be ordering again.

California Chicken Cafe in Santa Monica is a showcase in knowing exactly what it is and executing without hesitation. The speed alone deserves recognition. Placed the order on the app, food in hand (beating the estimated wait time), no excuses made. Everything comes out cooked to perfection, hot where it should be, fresh where it matters. THAT'S WHAT IS UP. It's pickup only, which somehow makes it better, like the place is politely telling you not to linger. Friendly staff greets you and hooks ya up with a primo parking spot to get your grub. Ambience is 10/10. And yes, I'm about to compliment the parking, because when parking is this dialed, it counts. They have that shit locked down in a way that feels almost luxurious by Santa Monica standards. Overall, CCC never misses on flavor, and that consistency is the real flex. Quality here isn't a marketing word, it's the baseline expectation. This is dependable, efficient, deeply satisfying food that shows up and does the job every single time.

This is the gold standard for salads and rotisserie chicken. They have an extensive menu with great sides and wraps, but their salads are what keeps me coming back. The Chicken: I only eat white meat, so I'm picky about texture. CCC does it perfectly, the breast meat is always tender and juicy, never stringy or dry. You can really taste the herb seasoning all the way through the meat. The Salads: * Chinese Chicken Salad: my absolute go to. The crunch from the almonds and crispy noodles mixed with the salad veggies are perfect. The Chinese dressing is the best dressing I've ever had (I always get extra on the side). * California Chicken Salad: Great if you love avocado and veggies. The broccoli adds a nice crunch and the balsamic pairs well with the chicken. If you want a quick grab n go they have a website where you can order for pickup. They also have a convenient side window operation where they call your number. It's efficient and the staff is always nice.

When I am hungry, don't wanna cook, and don't wanna eat like crap, this is my go to. The goddess salad, no broccoli. It's always perfect. There is no ambiance, because it's all to-go. There is no service, because, it's all to-go. But the salad is solid. And every time I get it, I am never bummed.

After all these years, it's still my go-to spot for to-go salads before work. Their salads are always fresh and so good! Curbside pickup is a breeze -- the staff is already outside ready to take your name, and the food comes out in seconds. Quick, easy, and consistently delicious!

Came here with a colleague, as someone who doesn't eat meat...your options are obviously limited and that's totally OK. But if you are going to advertise a wrap as vegan, please make sure there is no chicken inside. So here is a warning to all vegans/vegetarians/non-meat eaters: the Vegan Wrap is not so vegan. There should be a cross contamination warning. Idk maybe there is?

    Chinese Wrap

The Caesar wrap was so good! The sauce amount was perfect and the croutons were so good! The Chinese wrap wasn't as good and it comes with sauce on the side so it was a little dry. We also had the lemonade that was very good. We ordered when we got there and waited about 5 minutes.

Tables looked available around 5pm though so walk-ins could be possible. Ambiance: Outside was nice and inside looked dimly lit and romantic. We were seated promptly and service was good. Food: Rice slushy had a strangely strong cinnamon-like taste to it that traditional rice punch doesn't have which was so overpowering, it made it difficult to go back for more sips. Oysters - good though small, enjoyed the kelp mignonette Korean Aguachile - Delicate tilefish completely overwhelmed by cold kimchi broth with actual icy slush in it and small amounts of fish Steak Tartare - The hot stone bowl seemed to defeat the purpose of a tartare, as it cooked the steak once mixed. The perilla leaves were also cut in large strips relative to the beef. Chilled Acorn Noodle - The perilla oil was nonexistent in flavor though the dish didn't need it and was good without. Overall, portions were small for the price and dishes weren't well-executed so despite being excited for more Korean options in West LA, I'd much rather make the drive to Koreatown for better portions, prices, and flavors.

So then we ordered two so-called French fries. They are hardened little chips. None of the five of us at our table could stand them, and that included my grandson who normally likes crispier fries. He tried cutting 2 or 3 of them with a knife, and couldn't. I could tell my husband was very so-so about his salad. My daughter-in-law liked her Asian noodle salad though. My grandson liked his plain hamburger on a bare bun - how ridiculously basic. My son liked his pasta. At this point, we all decided on no dessert because the batting average was so low. The place itself is very modern and nice. Overall the vibe it basically a Houston's-type place. And service was good. All of the food overall was very good. Nothing really too crazy. To me, the menu is a little... boring. But, I will say everything was tasty. We got the Cajun shrimp salad (which was simple and clean but tasty), a cheese pizza for the kids (which was good!), a brisket French dip (very tasty and a horseradish sauce with a LOT of bite), a vodka pasta (was good but it actually is TOO big a portion to eat by one's self), the Ahi Tuna frites (the tuna was good and served with a nice green sauce), and the grilled cabbage side (with brown butter and some pomegranate molasses--it was actually my favorite thing!). The key distinctive thing about Laurel Grill seems to be that a lot of things get cooked by that fire which really adds a nice smoky touch (like the shrimp and the ahi tuna and the cabbage). My only major complaint would be the fries were just okay. After a minute or two they weren't crispy anymore. As good as everything else was, I thought they would step things up with the fries but they were just average. Anyways, while I overall am not that excited by the menu, it definitely is a great place to go where everybody will be able to find something tasty to eat.
