2ND UPDATE: I want to explain why I'm posting this review a year later. It has taken THIS LONG, working with my hairdresser back at home, to fix the damage that was done on my hair a year ago at this salon. We were talking about how much better my hair is now and how crazy of an experience that was back then and how much it fried my hair. I really didn't want to cut it all off, but we had to cut a good amount after that from how burned it was and my hair still isn't fully grown out and back to normal yet. I was mentioning to my hairdresser that I learned my lesson and now I read every single review before choosing to go to a salon out of state anymore... and that's when I realized I never shared my experience on here. Some context for those of you wondering why this came out of no where... it didn't, it's been something I've been paying for 16 months now. UPDATE: I got a quick response from the salon about my review. I know that I'm a year late to this review and the stylist might not be there anymore, but the fact that multiple people in the salon and at the front desk weren't filling to help me or take ownership and fix the situation tells me way more about the salon as a whole than just the stylist. Which is why I published the review now, and I wish I published it earlier if it had helped other people avoid this problem. The comment from the salon states that I am lying in my original review and that I may not have even gotten a service from a stylist at Caliente Salon... so I searched for my credit card statement from June 2017 when Caliente charged me for that horrendous service, and then right after when I went to Lunatic Fringe salon and they fixed my hair. I bought some travel-sized products from them since I was coming in for a business event out of town and I wanted to give them money somehow for how helpful and kind they were to me in my situation (ended up going to Ulta for the rest of the products I needed that Lunatic Fringe didn't have in stock - you can see this on my credit card statement as well) Again, that response to my review shows the same lack of responsibility and ownership that I experience a year ago, so it seems like nothing's changed. I'm attaching two new photos to prove I'm not lying or that this service was done at a different salon 1) credit card statement proving I paid Caliente for this service 2) a picture of me walking outside by Caliente. We walked out of Caliente and turned right to walk back to our AirBNB and my boyfriend took a picture of my hair. I used google maps to capture a screenshot of that same street to show we were there and it was minutes after leaving Caliente. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This was about a year ago but I was telling the story to my hair stylist today and realized I had never left a review. I went in for a blowout in the morning June 2017 and asked for beachy waves for a business event I had that afternoon. I specifically asked for someone that was good at doing beachy / soft waves for a blow out and they assured me over the phone that they'd scheduled me with the best. I did not get what I asked for, not even close. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. See them attached with captions. I am the type of person that takes extra care of my hair - I wash it with cold water, use heat protectant and natural products, and go to the best salons for my blow out. Apparently this salon wasn't it because my hair was completely fried and destroyed afterwards. And it seems like ratings have gone down as well since I was last there. Figures. Also they tried to charge me double than what they quoted me over the phone, and didn't agree that my hair was fried and looked terrible. I walked out of there having paid someone to fry my hair and there was nothing they were willing to do about it to fix it. Fortunately I found Lunatic Fringe Salon and they salvaged my hair 10 minutes before my business event. Go there instead and don't make my mistake. Arrived to my appointment to a locked Salon. Texted the MUA we were there to see, no answer. Called, no answer. Waited 15 min, texted and called again. After waiting 45 min we had to make the decision to backtrack to the house and do our own makeup and then get to the location for family pictures on time. I had my first appointment with Cassandra today. A gel manicure and regular pedicure that I was gifted with a groupon. She was easy to book with, confirmed the appointment ahead of the time, was right on schedule, and did a really lovely job on both services. She was friendly and fun to have a conversation with and I was very happy with the quality of the end result!! I was also impressed by the color selection, I got a gorgeous metallic mermaid color (I'll try to post a picture) I haven't seen before. I really enjoy the service at this place! I had to get a quick hair trim before I left for a trip. I called a head to see if anyone was available at a short notice, but unfortunately everyone left that night but someone said they can do it for me. I came into the shop and it was HUGE! I got my bangs trimmed and the service was amazing! I asked if I can do something different (as to part it, but i have a natural part already) and she gave me her honest opinion on how it will look on me. I really do appreciate that because I've had some horrible hairstyles in the past. I give her props for that. another thing is that if you go on their website they mostly do everything! from piercing, facial waxing, styling, and skin care. You name it! OH! And my bangs only cost $5! I'll be coming here more often for more of their service! read more

I have been coming here for several years to have my hair done. I see Ronnie and she does an amazing job and for a great price. I am not an adventurous individual so it's the same cut with slight variance in the highlights. The studio is large and they have a variety of hairstylist and massage therapist. I am the maid of honor for my best friends wedding and before I flew home I needed a manicure. I have gone here multiple times and was happy with the gel manicures I have had so I decided to try a full set this time. I made an appt online for a Tuesday and the next day I received a text message asking if I could move my appt to another day because it was going to take them longer than an hour and 45 minutes to complete my full set. I moved my appt to Thursday at 11 and then received a text message the next day asking if I could reschedule that appt to noon instead. I have class at 1 so I couldn't reschedule again. They said that was okay and that my appt would still be at 11. Then the night before my appt they texted me AGAIN explaining they are fairly new to acrylic nails and that it was going to take a while for them to finish. I asked if she could finish my nails within that hour and 45 minutes and she responds asking if I want square nails. Once I said yes, she never answered. Then an hour and a half before my appt she texted me telling me she's not confident to complete my nails and asked me to reschedule again.... at this point I just cancelled. I am not angry that she didn't feel confident in doing my nails, I respect that she was honest. I am angry that she didn't just say that in the first place or have someone else cover for her. All I wanted was a full set and they're a nail salon so I figured they could make it work. To make matters worse, I received 3 phone calls in a row from the salon a few minutes after my appt was supposed to be. When I finally answered a women on the phone told me I was late to my appt so I have to reschedule. She had no idea that I had cancelled because the other woman told me she couldn't do it! There was obviously no communication and now I leave tonight for the wedding and have no time to get my nails done that we're supposed to be finished Tuesday. read more

Staff was nice enough but the Groupon wasn't even worth it. Pedicures were not that relaxing or done well. Polish is smuged, nails not trimmed or shaped. Massage was more like a 30 second rub. Chairs not comfortable. Manicure also a joke, color didn't match and instead of redoing them they just added sparkles. Hands down the worst eyebrow wax experience I've ever had. Mad that I even paid for it. Removed half my eyebrow and had to go home pluck them to clean them up. Didn't even ask me to look at them before paying as if he knew he jacked them up so poorly. read more

I went for a mani pedi. Over the phone I was quoted $45. It had a seedy back entry. I was led to a cubicle where a foot tub on wheels was rolled to me. The salon looked dirty. Most of the nail colors were Wet and Wild and knock off brands. To top it off, the price jumped to 60 and she said that didn't include a tip. The chair in a cubicle was uncomfortable and awkward, nothing like what I was expecting. The "gel" polish was toast within 3 days and my usual polish from EZ Nails on Federal Way lasts for weeks. I don't handwash dishes or do manual labor, it was just a shoddy job. I want my money back. Caliente is not so hot. read more

If you would like to be listened to and receive a modern cut/color, do NOT go to this salon. I had hair halfway down my back and asked that it not be cut short. I brought in a picture of an ombre hair color (brown on top fading to a light blonde on bottom). I walked out with shoulder length hair that was PURPLE. When I asked for a refund I was berated for not coming back in to have my hair fixed. Tell me, would you want someone to "fix" your hair who had just moments ago destroyed it? I have yet to receive my promised refund and when I inquired about it I was told I will only receive half. If they could not give me what I wanted because they did not have the knowledge/skills (to cut/color my hair appropriately, or to listen to what I wanted) then that should have been addressed during the consultation. Go ahead and visit this salon if you would 1) like to throw away hundreds of dollars ( I had to pay someone else to fix my color and cut, on top of the $150 I paid for the initial stylist to ruin my hair) 2) if you want to hate your hair, and 3) if you don't want to be listened to. read more

I booked a blowout and manicure here on a whim. It's located out of the downtown core and is a no frills salon- it almost reminded me of a barbershop. My blowout was a great end result but not quite a salon experience. My manicure, one day later, is chipped in multiple places. I watched her thin the polish out prior to painting and she sped through the process. No soaking, hand massage etc. I should have done this myself. Both employees were nice and that always helps. Probably won't return on my next trip back to Boise. read more

Cassandra is now my new go to person for nails. I had had a worthless gel mani done elsewhere (lasted only 3 days). I decided to give gel manicures one more try. I booked with Cassandra on a Groupon and I'm glad I did. She is an expert manicurist. She is polite and knowledgeable and engaging. I chose a color that is very unforgiving and would show any mistakes or streaking. Cassandra has a very steady hand and my nails came out perfectly. A week later and they still look freshly done. I also appreciated how she asked before doing any shaping or trimming to be sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. read more
