Don't think by me giving this establishment a 3 that I will not be back. 3 means "the ambiance is genuinely hispanic, the tacos were great, the nachos were not so great, but we will be back to give something else on their menu aa try to truely decide." Coyote Bar screams the ambiance of mexican food. Downstairs is more of the bar scene and upstairs is a quiter option for table dining. We sat upstairs. From decor to music, it feels like a hispanic joint...for being a hispanic joint in a Chinese country! Service was quick and staff was friendly. They have an abundance of Margharita options...like 2 full pages of them. So if tequila and margharitas are your thing, this might be your place. I had a Cubre Libre instead and it was a pretty generous booze pour and glass size. We shared nachos and fish tacos. Fish tacos were fantastic...warm, great fish, light batter, good sauce, sweet and salty...they were really delicious. The nachos fell a little flat for us. It was the chip. Nachos are all about the foundational tortilla chip! The toppings were good, but it appeared that once the nachos are made, they must pop them in the oven to melt cheese and meld all the ingredients together. Subsequently, when they do that, they suck the moisture out of the chip. The chips were limp, thin and a bit dry. If they fix the quality of the chip, these would be spectacular, they would survive being in the oven part better. A great nacho chip needs to be a touch salty and bit heartier. We will go back and try maybe the burritos and/or enchiladas. There was someone at the table next to ours that ordered a salad with shrimp on top and it looked really good. We live on the other side of Hong Kong, so this will not be a regular stop for us. But if you were seeking out Mexican food, this was as authentic as I have seen yet since moving here.

Last time we were there in March 2025 a new chef was just hired from Mexico. Everything tasted more authentic. The restaurant is a little hidden but follow your directions and all will be ok. All expectations should be checked at the door when it comes to Tequila Jack's. This is a bar that…read moreis more about fun than it is about fajitas. It is more of a bar than it is a burrito joint. Come here for the drinks or for their attempt at Latin / Mexican bar food and bring some good company to boot. This is one of those places where a good time depends on who's drinking and who's not. The place has plenty of seating on the inside and quite a section for outdoor action. Folks can smoke and drink as they please outside with no problems. On the inside they have TVs galore, usually broadcasting Mexican soccer / futbol games. The staff is not pretentious and they have provided good service each time I'm here. Don't be nervous about trying to say the words on the menu, chances are the nearly app Nepalese staff might have trouble saying it too. Let's one thing straight: the "Mexican" food here is close to an abomination. Anyone coming here to get their fix of sopa tortilla or the next great mole poblano will be sorry they did. The bar is stacked with versions of bar friendly Mex, which includes nachos, quesadillas, and tacos. Most of the aforementioned is incredibly mediocre, but being that HK is not blessed with quality Mexican fare, the food at Tequila Jack's is hardly a surprise. Do however, indulge on their themed nights. On Saturday nights for example, is steak night for $108 each. It is a 10oz steak with some fixins like fries, veggies, and corn on the cob. I'm usually not terribly crazy about cheap steak but theirs is a slight exception. My steak has been cooked perfectly each time and the marbling / fat actually melts in your mouth. I have been here since the prices were $90 and the steak has been one of the only highlights food wise. On the drink front, they have a legit array of Mexican beers along with a stellar selection of tequila. It's probably the most abundant collection of tequila I've seen in the hood. The prices per shot aren't cheap ($140?) but if money doesn't matter as much the drunks are in their own league at TJ's. Lastly, if you're sitting outside at night: Watch out for our furry friends running around. They have caused quite a stir in the past. And *do not* feed them.

While browsing the web for Mamasita's menu, I stumbled upon the website of Mamacita's, a small…read morechain of restaurants based in Texas. Whilst browsing that menu, I found myself yearning for the good / cheap Tex-Mex restaurants that are popular across the United States. It's the food that most American's think of when they think of Mexican (even though it's not even close to the real thing). At Mamacita's (TX), tacos come three to an order and are served with refried beans and rice and costs $9.99 USD (roughly 77 HKD) At Mamasita's (HK), a single beef cheek taco costs $68 HKD. It's piteously small and outrageously expensive for such a dear portion of food. But then again this is the restaurant that charges $78 for chips and salsa whereas most restaurants would provide this free of charge. Beyond the taco, the food is uninspiring and at times, flat out terrible. Mushroom quesadillas ($108), while mushy and bland, were inoffensive and unmemorably ho-hum. The same went for a medley of corn, bell pepper and zucchini which is listed as a side ($38), served from a kitchen that is obviously apathetic at veg cookery. However the food went from uninspiring to flat out terrible with the Birria ($238), which is typically a rich dish of lovingly braised goat in a fiery and complex mole-like gravy. At Mamasita's (HK), 5 graying tough-as-bullets hunks of lamb sit in a thin soup redolent of Campbell's tomato soup. In fact I could probably do just as well to buy some discounted lamb meat and boil it up with a can of Campbell's and call it at a day for less than 25 HKD. The service is clumsy and the food comes out in a puzzling progression... the veg side comes out first (probably because it's sat wilting in a warming bin), then a taco, then the birria, then another taco, and finally the quesadilla (perhaps because its the only thing cooked to order?). A single star has been added because the hot sauce is one of the best restaurant hot sauces I have tasted in Hong Kong. In concept, execution, and value, Mamacita's fails in every way. I would take a cheap Tex-Mex chain over this shite any day of the week.

However, when I review, I take into consideration of local competitions, I am also comparing it against with Chipotle, America's top cali mex restaurant. And I give Cali-mex a 3.5 It must be noted that everyone's taco preference are different. I personally like my flour tacos soft (hard tacos are NOT authentic, but whatever floats your boat), al pastor or carne asada, from a grimey mexican food truck with a lot of cilantro, salsa and lime. I ordered 3 BEEF TACOS for $78, you can pay more for higher quality meat and I believe it was $98 for ANGUS STEAK CUBES. The food came somewhat quickly but there was no line. The tacos are HUGE. prepared to be STUFFED from 3 tacos. personally I think 2 is the perfect number for ones this size (authentic al pastor I usually get 4) So you may want to share instead of devouring it all for lunch. I also did not like how you had to order all 3 of the same meat. How difficult is it to scoop another meat? It's a bloody assembly line! I can tell the flour was not commercial ready made, it was fresh, however, it can do wonders heating up the tortilla first. I don't understand WHY this simple step is missed. It literally takes 5 seconds but makes it taste infinitely better. There were also no onion/coriander and cilantro (or very minimal) but they give a scooping of vegetables and some shredded cheese. They also ran out of medium salsa which was my first choice. I asked for light sour cream as I don't normally get my tacos with it, but I suppose that's how Tex-Mex does it (as does Chipotle) Note that it is $18 for guac, I don't normally get guac with my tacos so I skipped on that. Chipotle in LA charged $2.85usd for guac so I suppose this isn't ridiculous. *** Tips: HUGE tacos, share if you can. Favourites: The salsa, the hottest one was quite similar to el taurino/king taco in LA, which is hard to come by! Meh: Forced to get 3 of the same tacos. Could not adjust portions. It ain't cheap. Last words: I've had brick house (superior but also very different) mr taco truck, (inferior). This is in all honesty a solid mexican joint in Hong Kong. BUT if you ever have a chance to head to seoul, Gusto tacos there is a definite 5. I heard they may explore HK, so watch out taco joints. Takeaway ONLY

Bloody busy night on a Tuesday with no taco tuesday deals, so you can tell how popular it is by just that. The cocktails were great, and Essays Mule was particular eye-catchy. Now a slight miscalculation here - the Mexi-slider burger was actually a proper-size burger, came with a massive slice of beef already. Sharing it with my girlfriend already made us half-full. But the tacos didn't disappoint us. We had a lobster taco, a prawn taco, a chicken taco and a black cod taco. The fancy kind of taco in the taco-genre, to make it simple. They were all amazing. We ended up ordering another lobster and black cod taco again. The kitchen was kinda closed without us actually being told the time of the last order, but the staff was nice enough to get the kitchen to prepare the last 2 tacos for us. All-in-all, very cozy and hipsterish place hiding in the basement. The bar area (vs the restaurant area) was pretty nice too. The opening of the new MTR stations have definitely brought more options to SYP (shame I got virtually no options 10 years ago when I studied at HKU), and the prices are getting more competitive as well. (Remember those $140 g&t at Ping Pong or $90 taco at Chino? I don't.)

It's located on Bonham road, where eateries are scarce and the entrance is a barely noticeable black sign. The only hint is the matador mask hung above. There's a small chill out/smoking area, which is a nice instagram spot, before you head down to the surprisingly large dining area downstairs. Decorated like a ghetto area, with laundry lines hanging high over your head and tequila themed posters everywhere; the tables are long and the vibe is loud and boisterous - think German beer hall except of course, it's Mexican. Food is amazing, we had the tangy corn on the cob, nachos and fried pork rind served with some excellent homemade salsa and guac. And of course, the tacos, oh yes the tacos. Just look at the picture, I cannot explain well enough except by telling you our party of four ordered 8, then another 8 more right after having the first bite. I'm not a fan of tequila so went with a michelada which was decent and pretty refreshing. Fun place to come in groups for a pre-night out dinner, or for an actual night out too.
