Be very careful with this store. I was going to order fabric that was on sale in October for cushions. After I made a selection Amanda measured the cushions that I brought in to tell me how much yardage I would need. After I got her figure, I went to my own upholster to confirm the amount of yardage, as the fabric was $110/yard. Amanda quoted me that I needed 7 yards and my upholster said a little over 1 yard. I ordered 2 in case I needed it for something else. That's quite a difference in price Also, I had ordered and paid for motorized roman shades November 4 that were on sale. I signed a paper with my payment that day. When I called in late December to get an estimate of delivery they could not find the paper that I signed that I would pay for the shades. I already paid in November with my order. So my order did not get started until December 8 as I had to resign their promise to pay contract . Since it takes up to 10 weeks for assembly, I'm still waiting for my shades. Be very careful and don't let them tell you how much you need, get a second opinion. read more

This rating is for the store personnel. The people who do the measuring, fabrication, and installation deserve a five-star review, but there is no way to rate them, or interact with them, separately. The only customer-interface (or significant lack there of) is with the store. We had a fantastic experience about 8-9 years ago with custom living room drapes made by Calico, and when we needed new bedroom shades I turned to them. Due to covid, I ordered swatches online and selected the fabric I wanted, then left a voice mail and email that we were ready. The woman who returned my messages was helpful and had good ideas. She arranged a measurer to come and gave us a quote and date by which the coverings would be ready. All good. Then, radio silence. I called and she was never there. The date came and went by months. No return calls. I escalated to a district manager and said to cancel everything and refund my deposit. I received a call back from the store manager who apologized and promised to handle it herself. She said that they looked beautiful and we're almost done, we could have a significant discount, gave us a new delivery date, etc. She promised to call every Friday. She called once, blew through the deadline, we never heard from her but eventually got a call from the installation person. The coverings are nice and we like them. We were charged the full amount. I disputed it with my credit card company and called the store manager. She never returned my call, but the charge was reversed a couple of days later. Poor communication and customer service. After waiting weeks for our drapes and hardware to be made, one rod was delivered damaged. The box was tattered but the store didn't even bother inspecting it before it was picked up by my installer, who immediately realized it was damaged. The new rod took a while to arrive, and came with nicks to the finish all over the rod. The company did give me a credit to make up for their inattentive customer service and imperfect rod but I am still waiting for a resolution for a new problem, the cord. The cord that came with the rod, used for the pull system, is insufficient for our drapes, which are heavy. I have repeatedly asked for a thicker cord, but can't even get a return call from the manager. This experience has been truly inferior and the lack of communication from the store manager and staff has been incredible. I am still awaiting a call from Antonette and a resolution to this latest problem. I do not recommend Calico for any drape or furniture upholstery. Go somewhere else! read more

I thought I'd wait until my chair was ready to leave a review but the waiting time has been quite long and the company doesn't seem particularly interested in following up and making sure the upholsterer completes the job in the time promised. Calico Corners has a beautiful selection of fabrics and staff who are quite happy to help select fabric but once the deposit is paid, you're out in left field and no one seems to care. read more

This place is a rip-off!! Don't go here! We ordered an upholstered bench seat for a nook in three pieces. The upholstery worker called me and said it would be better to make it all one piece so it would be more stable on the bench. I agreed but said this will be one third the amount of work that I paid for. He said you need to work that out at the store. When we picked it up they said there is no adjustment because you already paid for all that work in advance. They won't let you order without paying in advance ( sight unseen). This cost $900. It should have been $300. It's beautiful but I will never go back. read more

Eight months after ordering, I still have not received the pillows that unordered to match the chair I had custom covered. These items were ordered in early September 2019. The chair arrived incorrectly covered and it took months to get it corrected. We received the redone chair in late Jan. - 5 months after placing the order - and we still have not received the three custom pillows. I emailed and called multiple times and they were not responsive even before the Coronavirus crisis. Calico has provided unbelievably poor service and their Marin ship is completely mismanaged. read more

I have used calico corners for several years covering my couches and GC making curtains They always did a great job up until now. I sent a chair and sectional to be recovered and returned before Xmas When I hadn't heard from them I called to discover the fabric wouldn't be available till mid January. They offered me a discount Another month went by and again I called No fabric till March but definitely a discount Along came March my chair and sectional finally returned and they look great as they should after 4 months Although there is no discount Who does that??? I was hoping to find some nice fabric to recover a couple Bergere style chairs and located this shop online for upholstery fabric. So disappointed, I thought in a post pandemic world it would be good to get out to shop and spend some $$ locally but no one asked if they could help me the entire time I was browsing. Their material is beautiful but the woman at the desk should retire or brush up on her skills to work with the public. She lost my business now and any chance of it in the future. read more

Don't bother with these ladies... What happened to this place? Always had good service. Now: well I ordered swatches 2 weeks ago, most of them haven't shown up yet. Have tried several times to reach them by phone during their business hours: no one answers! No way to leave a voicemail. And called the east coast Calico Corners: they can't help at all...everything has to go through the store. Finally, I had a Mill Valley sales person who did not understand the idea of "railroaded" fabric and suggested several options that were not! Check out JoAnns fabric in Greenbrae, they have a strong online presence with lots of fabric choices and you can see many of the fabrics in the store...friendly employees. read more

Went in today with my 16 yr old daughter and could not get any service whatsoever!! Funnily enough they asked my daughter if she needed any help! Finally I asked someone if they had any gingham fabric and her reaction was to make a face and declare "no!" very loudly!!! Gingham is a staple when you are doing a cottage and she could have shown me an alternative- perhaps a stripe??!!! Why not help people when they are in your shop looking for fabric- why ignore them? Wow, this was a really great experience. They did not even FLINCH when I told them about my crazy list of must-haves. This is a full-service place: you select the fabric, the lining (if any), the size, the pleating or grommets, the hardware....they custom make it all and even do the installation at your home. Since I want a ceiling track, it's really important that this is installed correctly. They have like a thousand options. More, maybe? I got option paralysis, but I'll be back for sure. read more

They did a fine job of reupholstering some furniture for me. Great fabric selections and the final product looks good. Their main problem is with billing. I feel I was double-billed for labor -- Any reupholstering job has a kind of open-ended agreement that there may be more charges than are agreed to on the purchase order. That's understandable. But when some of those charges are specifically detailed in the purchase order and then they call you up just before the job is done and bill you for the same things again, it's dishonest.
