Absolutely awesome game store. Came by yesterday on a whim as we've been to their other location in Vista and were curious to check this location out. They had the BEST selection of used PS2 and PS4 games I've seen in any local preowned games store, plus they had a DS game I've been hunting for years at an excellent price, and my husband scored a specific Star Wars PSP game he's been wanting for a while. There are tons of fun vintage and modern games to peruse, lots of great preowned PS4 titles, so many PSP and DS games (10/10), plus they had old Teen Titans running on the TV (nice), and the guys at the front were helpful and answered all our questions. Overall the experience, price, and enjoyment of shopping here beats ebay by miles and miles. Probably my new favorite game store in the county! We'll be back very soon. read more

Had a great experience the other day when I went in to look at PSP games. I ended up having a lengthy discussion about how to spot fake/reproduction games and where they come from with Doug, who was kind, personable, professional and extremely knowledgeable. I totally nerd out on this kind of stuff so it was really great to chat about it with someone who knows as much as he does. I can tell that he's truly passionate about vintage gaming which really added to the experience. I ended up leaving with a sealed copy of Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (and if you're reading this Doug, I did indeed open it as soon as I got home haha) and a good condition copy of Star Ocean: First Departure. The case for this game had a chip in it, which I didn't notice until after I paid for it. Doug was nice enough to throw me an extra case, which I appreciated. I frequent all three Calico locations and really love these shops, the employees are all good people and the prices are always fair. read more

Great little retro gaming store in north county! With retro games becoming harder and harder to find each day, I am glad Calico is nearby & has a great selection of games to choose from from most of the major platforms. They also carry non-gaming related items like anime figures & collectibles, which makes them the best of both worlds for my nerdy needs! Bonus: I won one of the grand prizes from the Kirby Kuji Game, which is a Japanese Raffle game with different prizes like plushies to stationary. I called in to get an idea of what they would give me for a new switch oled. I asked for a range if couldn't provide that. And he explained that they don't do that over the phone and proceed to cut me off and not even let me speak. Was very condescending and rude and says that he was just being clear. All you have to do is speak to customers with respect not be disrespectful because I'm trying to get info! Definitely not wasting my time going here. I love this place. They have a decent selection, the staff is very friendly, and their stuff is in pretty decent shape. I saw one review give them one star because they "are too picky when buying" but I actually like that. I don't want someone's garbage, I want my stuff in good condition. If anything, I wish they were more picky on what they buy. Sometimes I'll see a game I want, but the label is damaged or it's missing the case. But hey, not everyone is like me and won't care. There are two reasons they're not five stars in my opinion: First is price. The games for the most part are fairly priced, though there are some that are too high. But their consoles are way too expensive. Original Xbox and N64 is $60. That's way too much, especially since the original Xboxes are prone to failure. You can find better deals on Amazon for consoles. But, then you can't check the condition, so I'd still buy consoles from them first. Second is an incident on my first visit. I was standing in line behind my friend, waiting to pick up some games and a PS2 they had. But for some reason, the second cashier called the guys behind me first. I didn't really care at first, but then the guys bought the PS2 I wanted and it was the only one they had. That just pissed me off. Definitely worth supporting them, even if their prices are a little high. I always prefer going into a store for my games, and retro shops are rare around me. read more

Staff is friendly enough, as I don't mind being left alone to browse. Bigger than their other storefront and has tons of accessories for vintage game systems and newer items like pixel art shadowboxes and puzzles. We picked up a replacement gameboy advance SP battery (perfect and works awesome), Portal 2 for Xbox 360, and a new (non-Nintendo) gamecube controller (works good so far). I'm so happy we have a retro game store in Escondido again. I can't remember how many years it's been since Funcoland was replaced the dreaded Gamestop. I stop by Calico pretty much every time I go to Escondido to visit my parents. They have a healthy collection of NES and SNES games, which are my particular favorite systems. They test the games, systems and accessories and if you have any problems you have a week to return the items. Most people compare prices to online stores like Half or eBay, and this really is not fair. Those places rarely test their products and have awful return policies if any at all. Plus, you get hit twice for shipping when making a return online and shipping is non-refundable. Although, Calico does have some room for improvement. They need to streamline and prioritize the register line. Also, many of their games have stickers used stickers from other game stores plastered over them. While some of these stickers are difficult to remove, the majority of them can be removed with Goo gone. If things are slow, I recommend cleaning up the merchandise. Overall I'm very happy with Calico and I hope they stay in business for a long time! read more

I was looking for new places to buy retro games, mainly for the PS2 and PS1 and came across Calico on Yelp. I checked it out and was pretty pleased with what I saw upon arrival. I came in little bit after they opened during the week and it was fairly quiet, not a bad thing, they had a good selection of PS2 games and PS1 games. I was able to browse without being badgered by the sales associate and found 4 games I wanted to add to my collection. The prices were fair for the condition they were in and I didn't feel cheated in anyway. I'll definitely be coming back within a few weeks to see if anything new pops up, but if you're looking for a place to buy retro games Calico is the place. read more

Calico Gaming is like Gamestop's down to earth sibling. Neat little spot to find classic and current video games, though it seems to specialize in older ones. Great casual scene which was exactly what I was looking for. Hopefully they'll start doing some small tournaments but I'll be coning back every week regardless. I have been traveling to this store for a couple years off and on from Oceanside. There are shops down here but the selection and prices are no where near Calico's. I like that Calico also put a quality grade on the games that indicate loose cartridge, scratch disc, image etc. the prices are fair and if you a good quality name brand accessories, systems or games with the original skin and box do not be turned away by the prices as it is tough to find that without buying online and never truly seeing it yourself in person before purchase. I will be back soon to buy a vintage game system to start another journey down my childhood gaming hunting. read more

This old school video game shop is awesome! They have great selection of classic video games. For example I just picked up Resident Evil 2 for the PS1 for 25$, which is way cheaper then Ebay prices. The staff is very friendly and they definitely know a lot about gaming. Another big plus is they sell Magic the Gathering cards. This place is way better then Game Adx of Oceanside. Having had bad experiences with other small video game stores in northern San Diego county, I was surprised by the great reviews I read on Yelp about All About Fun Games and Collectibles. As I had some cartridges I was looking to trade, I decided to give it a shot on my way to grad school. I was warmly greeted by the shop's proprietor, Eric, as he introduced himself. He was chatting with some other customers and friends who were playing Magic the Gathering at a table in the center of the store; but as Magic isn't my thing, I stepped up to the counter and was pleasantly surprised by the selection of vintage game cartridges on display. Eric gave me extremely fair prices for my trades, even sharing nostalgic stories and recollections about some of them. I then proceeded to the SNES and Genesis carts and found exactly what I was looking for, at prices that were HALF of what I was finding elsewhere! I could not have had a better experience trading vintage video game cartridges and sharing memories. Eric's attention to detail and kind demeanor reflect impeccably upon his shop, and you can be SURE that when I need to trade again, it will be here first! The perfect Retro Gaming Store. love this place, been coming here for years. Bought multiple consoles, tons of games and toys. Always treated well, The guy who runs the shop is always respectful and as helpful as I ask him to be. Best experience: I went in and bought a PS3 controller for 20$ took it home, it was ghosting (analog stick or d-pad moving without touching it) I drove it back to the shop, the guy took it back, apologized, and gave me a 30$ PS3 controller with upgraded battery life, no extra charge. He said he apologized for the inconvenience and that I was a good customer so he wanted to make sure I was a happy customer. At the time I had been going there for about a year so building a relationship with them was totally worth it. hard to find mom and pop shops like this where they care about the customer. The best video game shop in the County! My girlfriend and I drive 20miles to come to this place it's that good! The staff is super helpful and very fair with their prices and exchanges! My girlfriend bought a Wii from them in December where they gave the wrong cords with it; we came back in March to finally exchange them and they did it with no problems or questions asked! Definitely beats going to a GameStop if you aren't buying something new, and they probably have something you're looking for if you ask! One of the best hole in the walls I've found! read more
