DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!! I should have known by the mixed reviews. I drove 30 minutes out of the way, hoping for quality service. I took two bins of vintage games to them to get looked at. Gotta call the next afternoon with a very low ball offer ...they claim to pay the most......I went to BookOff the week before and got quoted double the price??? Then I was told that two of the gaming systems didn't work . I had no issues with BookOff. BookOff tested them, they had no issues. When I went to pick up my stuff, I guess a third gaming system-had been added to the not working list it had a bight green posted attached. Thankfully... Just picked up my money from BookOff with no issues they took all the systems. ***Math isn't mathing. read more

Waste of time. Trade in offers are terrible even though they claim "We pay the most" on a big sign on their window. You would get more money literally ANYWHERE else. The employees here are also useless. They care more about their personal conversations rather than the customer experience. This location (HB) of Retro Games Plus has a great selection of used games and consoles. The game prices are good and we've had no issues with any we've purchased. However, recently we also purchased a refurbished XBox 360 from here. They only give a 2 month warranty/return on their game systems and of course the door stopped sliding open 2 1/2 months after purchase. The best they could do was refer us to a repair place in Garden Grove. RGP is good for used games, but we don't recommend purchasing their consoles. Try Game Stop, they give a year warranty. read more

I've been getting back into retro gaming. This store is small, but organized. They have all the systems you may want. I'm interested in the good old GameBoy and they had a good selection of games at fair prices. They have a ton of games, so hopefully they have what you need. They also have a small selection of VHS, tapes, and CDs. The staff left me alone until I needed their help, which I like it that way. read more

Pro's: - great service - variety of items Cons : - questionable product condition There are a lot of things that retro games Plus does right-- they have a wide selection of products, customer service is generally prompt, courteous and friendly, so if you're looking for something, they might be able to help you. Unfortunately, some things can't be overcome with good service. I bought what I thought was sealed product, and forgot the core rule of caveat emptor. I've been going here for a while so I left without a second thought, but when I open what I thought was a sealed new product, it turns out that it had been tampered with. The product was a booster pack of collectible cards, and it turned out that whoever sold it to them had opened the pack inside taking the good stuff, and glued it back together in a way such that whatever cards were left were damaged. I went back to the store, hoping that they would be able to understand or do something about it, but the sales clerk simply apologized and took no action to refund. With the full understanding that products are sold as is, and understanding that as a store clerk, they may not have that ability, it's still disturbing that they would sell tampered product as new. Make sure to thoroughly inspect whatever you purchase from here. read more

Went here last week and was super impressed with the diversity in console lineup but also the other things I didn't see online when looking for more retro stores around SoCal. In this side quest this place got everything from the obvious consoles and games with a surprising lineup of all from the 7th to now and a decent bit of sega games just missing more 6th gen titles at the moment. They have a set of records vhs/dvds, tcg and even figures and other collectibles as well which kept me browsing for longer than I thought. This place was pretty empty when I came and it deserves more love. Really nice group of guys and the shop is very welcoming. Would definitely make a return trip! read more

Retro games plus stands out from other retro game shops in its wide variety of non-game related nerd stuff, from pop culture clothing to movies, anime, cds and even more obscure formats like laserdisc. Staff are always friendly and very helpful with questions you may have. Prices are also pretty damn good and they regularly have deals/sales. They usually have a great selection of games in stock, as an avid collector for a lot systems i always walk out with at least one game that ive been looking for (along with at least a few dvds too lol). After three years of outstanding service, I finally decided to write a review. Every time I shop here, I'm surprised at all of the amazing deals that I find. I have bought an amazing collection of Xbox 360 games over the years, and it's all thanks to Retro Games. The variety of titles they carry is unbelievable, and the fair prices are unfathomable. They even sell other gaming related items, such as comic books and action figures. The employees greet me every time I walk inside, and they are always helpful with finding exactly what I'm looking for. They are so knowledgeable about games and what to look out for. The quality of their discs are amazing. I've never received a disc that was completely scratched and unplayable. Everything about this place is phenomenal, and I'm so lucky to live so close to it. I want to like this place, it's close and local, but more often than not I can't find what I am looking for here. Trade in values seem to be about 30% for store credit, kind of meh, not terrible but not really worth it either for higher price items. So instead, the cool finds I want to trade end up on Ebay, even though I would have been happy with 50% of that take. Selection is not really adequate; this is the third or fourth time I've left here disappointed not able to find what should be an easy find at any retro store (and are at others). I wanted to accomplish three things here today, get rid of a copy of Silent Hill 4 (which they don't have in the store currently), and buy a couple Wii motes and GameCube controller. None of that was accomplished. The trade in value (to me) wasn't near worth it for the easy flip that title is, and they had no stock of either controller. read more

We were so excited to go home and play with the games we found (that we loved growing up) but when we got home, only one of them worked. We wrongly assumed that because they were SELLING them, that THEY THEMSELVES test out the games before putting them on the shelves. So bummed, lost $20 but the let down hurt more. I bought a Gamecube from this store. The staff was generally nice, but they do not let you know that the power supplies for consoles are third party. I know I should have checked myself, but it slipped my mind. I had to buy a separate power supply online because the ones they sell cause blurry lines on newer televisions, even with an HDMI converter. The price was okay, but had I known i was gonna have to spend extra money for the power supply i would've gone somewhere else. They do give a discount for one game when you purchase a console which was nice. Would maybe recommend for games, but be sure to ask more questions than i did when buying a console from them. Their memory cards are also third party, but that has not been a problem so far. Overall, the store is nice and has a good inventory of vintage games. read more

I visit here a lot and it is very often hit or miss, they have a good selection for new comers but hardly ever get new items in. They have collectibles sitting on the shelf that have been there for months and never have price changes and or new offers. The prices are basically the same as any online secondhand place but sometimes the prices can be pretty random and expensive. Their Pokémon card binders are always empty, and their "rare" cards are mediocre at best. Which is fine because I don't think people would sell their cards to them anyway. The few employees that work there are nice, but I feel sometimes they're a little loud and disruptive, they don't really ask if you're looking for anything either until you go up to them. It's off putting. I've also bought some console accessories like controllers etc, (probably won't again) which I bought for full price marked decently high. As a business I expect them to do some thorough disinfecting and cleaning on their trade ins but unfortunately I've bought two controllers that were really dirty with grime and dirt in the slits and battery covers.. they definitely were not given any tlc prior to my purchase. I've seen cleaner from secondhand shops honestly. I've also tried buying games but they end up not having the disk or lost it. :/ It has room for improvement. Just be smart when shopping here and make sure to inspect items before buying. Ask questions. read more

Been here twice so far since I found this place on Yelp. I stopped by for the first time after surfing last weekend. They have a very good variety of games and better prices than the video game store by my house. Service is friendlier too, and I like that I am left alone to browse in peace. Any time I shop at Game Stop, it seems like a different associate approaches me every 60 seconds.
