This place is awesome. I'm from Long Beach but if I have any excuse to come down to San Diego I will drive down. The people here are so nice and helpful. They seem to be excited about comic books. They have a good upstairs and downstairs full of all comic book related stuff. My only complaint is that I wish these guys were closer I love this shop definitely worth a checkout.

Few comic stores I've been to are as good as Now or Never Comics. In my hunt for the nations' best comic book stores, this one is high up there. Among the many things going for it is the owner above all. I witnessed him being honest beyond expectations - a customer wanted to sell some Funko pops and he made him a fair offer, but more than that, he told him he might get more money from a competitor up the street and that if he wanted to put in the time and effort he could definitely get more online! Wow. The guy ended up selling to the store and I'm glad he did. He got a good deal and the honesty of a fine owner. PRODUCTS: Love the variety here. They focus on comic books and have a very nice selection of high value books, new and recent books, and a good back stock. Not all comic stores have all three. He also has vintage and new toys and vintage books as well. Just a great overall selection. SERVICE: Like I said, just the best. I really appreciate those people who make this hobby worthwhile and just makes me want to give them my business. Which I happily did. COST: I was super impressed with cost also. Most comic stores elevate their prices but his prices were incredibly fair. Better than eBay in most instances and without paying for shipping. The condition of the books was stellar and they take care of their product well. Will definitely be back when I'm in town. Read his story right here on Yelp!

Sneak peak at things I wanted and then forgot to purchase.

I love comic books. I love video games. I love toys. If you also love....or even just like the three things listed above you absolutely must check out Now or Never Comics! I stopped by this shop for the very first time on Thursday and was amazed by almost everything I saw. When I first walked in I flew straight up the staircase to the toy room because I just couldn't wait. This room is pretty large and filled in every direction with all the Marvel, DC, Star Wars stuff and so many different retro toys form Space Jam and Mars Attacks! to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and X-Men. They had glass cases full of opened stuff and a ton of in box stuff all around too, truly a remarkable toy section. Downstairs is packed to the brim with walls of trades and compendiums with the single issue stuff being located in the middle. The store itself is organized alphabetically and they even have a discount wall where I picked up a half off copy of Something is Killing the Children for only $7.50, talk about a deal. This store also had a few different cases with video games in them that I got super excited to come across! I ended up picking up a couple of GameCube games which is all a man could really ask for. Now or Never Comics is a store that I will absolutely be visiting whenever I am back in San Diego. The selection here is incredible and the store itself was super clean and well organized. The gentleman working the register was also a huge help and recommended a few other places in the area for me to check out, so shoutout to him as well! This store is a must stop for anyone and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

I loved the vibe of this comic store. There are plenty of collectibles to peruse. Great place to hunt for your next funny book.

Ask the Community - Now Or Never Comics

Do you have vintage pokemon singles or slabs?

Unfortunately we don't carry any Pokemon singles. I'd recommend checking in with Bards & Cards down the street from us, or TC's Rockets in La Mesa. Hope that helps!

    Dog friendly inside?

    Yes, we are dog friendly!

    Do you buy yugioh?

    We do not, sorry!

    What is parking like?

Hello! There are several metered parking spots right in front of the shop on F St, as well as metered parking on G, 10th, and 11th (which is usually the best street to find a spot). It can be busy during the day, especially while there's…

Our family loves this store. Not only do they have retro games but really cool collectors items…read more Staff is always friendly and knowledgeable and our kids always leave feeling good.

I've spent hundreds of dollars at Throwback Gamez because I genuinely like supporting mom-and-pop…read moreshops, but today I learned apparently you need a bachelor's degree in Pokémon Card Sciences before you're allowed to negotiate here. I'm getting back into Pokémon cards after collecting as a kid. Now I'm grown, have some money to spend, and figured it would be fun getting back into the hobby. Obviously I don't know every single thing about card conditions, pricing, sets, etc. yet. They had a card for $52. I looked it up and found one for $33, so I offered the guy $45. Seemed reasonable to me. What I DIDN'T notice was that the $33 card was listed as heavily played. My bad. I didn't know. I'm still learning. Instead of just saying, "Hey man, that $33 one is heavily played, ours is in much better condition, that's why it's $52," this dude looks at me like I just tried trading him a Caterpie for a Charizard and goes: "Why would I do that? That's my price. That one is all fucked up." BROTHER I DIDN'T KNOW. Then he basically tells me next time I need to learn and do my research before trying to make deals. Damn Professor Oak, my fault. I thought I walked into a card shop, not my final exam at Pokémon University. The funny part is I WASN'T trying to lowball the guy. I legitimately thought $45 was a fair offer based on what I had found. All he had to do was explain the difference and I would've been like, "Oh shit, okay, that makes sense." Instead he made me feel like an idiot for not knowing something. Then another guy walks in who obviously knows his Pokémon cards and suddenly the employee evolves into his final form. Now he's friendly, talking cards, buddy-buddy, having a great time. I'm standing there like damn, apparently I need 8 gym badges before customer service gets unlocked. Maybe the AC being ass had him irritated. Maybe he was hungry. Maybe Team Rocket stole his lunch. I don't know. But the customer service today was TERRIBLE. And that sucks because I actually like this store. I've spent hundreds here and specifically come here because I want to support a local mom-and-pop shop instead of buying everything online. Not everybody walking into a card shop is going to know everything about Pokémon. Some of us are getting back into something we loved as kids and finally have adult money to spend on it. Instead of making those customers feel stupid, teach them something. I promise you, we're probably the easiest people to sell cards to.
