The staff is always wonderful and helpful, and their prices always beat Gamestop. Love having a great local game shop to patronize.

We chatted about the cards - mine are from the Field Of Dreamz Festival at PetCo park 6/13/26. His store was full of everything from Pokemon to Magic. He mentioned that he went to School with Kyle STOOPID! How rad is that! Come and support a local Point Loma, Ocean Beach community business owner! The value was priceless since he was so friendly and gifted me the card protectors. There was a big variety of prices, things that were collectible and tings for the beginning collector. Thank you GAMERAVE!

The owner will go on a long diatribe about how he "used" to reseal and scam people. If you've been there, I'm sure he's pulled out his little binder and wasted your time. Super shady. Every collector booster I've purchased there has been in poor shape and looked odd at the seams. I haven't had a single hit over 5 dollars. It could just be my bad luck, but it could also be something fishy going on. I'm never going there again. Bad vibes all around in this shop. The only redeeming quality is they have a decent magic precon selection, but he overcharges.

Our family loves this store. Not only do they have retro games but really cool collectors items…read more Staff is always friendly and knowledgeable and our kids always leave feeling good.

I've spent hundreds of dollars at Throwback Gamez because I genuinely like supporting mom-and-pop…read moreshops, but today I learned apparently you need a bachelor's degree in Pokémon Card Sciences before you're allowed to negotiate here. I'm getting back into Pokémon cards after collecting as a kid. Now I'm grown, have some money to spend, and figured it would be fun getting back into the hobby. Obviously I don't know every single thing about card conditions, pricing, sets, etc. yet. They had a card for $52. I looked it up and found one for $33, so I offered the guy $45. Seemed reasonable to me. What I DIDN'T notice was that the $33 card was listed as heavily played. My bad. I didn't know. I'm still learning. Instead of just saying, "Hey man, that $33 one is heavily played, ours is in much better condition, that's why it's $52," this dude looks at me like I just tried trading him a Caterpie for a Charizard and goes: "Why would I do that? That's my price. That one is all fucked up." BROTHER I DIDN'T KNOW. Then he basically tells me next time I need to learn and do my research before trying to make deals. Damn Professor Oak, my fault. I thought I walked into a card shop, not my final exam at Pokémon University. The funny part is I WASN'T trying to lowball the guy. I legitimately thought $45 was a fair offer based on what I had found. All he had to do was explain the difference and I would've been like, "Oh shit, okay, that makes sense." Instead he made me feel like an idiot for not knowing something. Then another guy walks in who obviously knows his Pokémon cards and suddenly the employee evolves into his final form. Now he's friendly, talking cards, buddy-buddy, having a great time. I'm standing there like damn, apparently I need 8 gym badges before customer service gets unlocked. Maybe the AC being ass had him irritated. Maybe he was hungry. Maybe Team Rocket stole his lunch. I don't know. But the customer service today was TERRIBLE. And that sucks because I actually like this store. I've spent hundreds here and specifically come here because I want to support a local mom-and-pop shop instead of buying everything online. Not everybody walking into a card shop is going to know everything about Pokémon. Some of us are getting back into something we loved as kids and finally have adult money to spend on it. Instead of making those customers feel stupid, teach them something. I promise you, we're probably the easiest people to sell cards to.

This store has become my favorite go-to spot when I need something gaming-related. It's the…read moreGameStop store I visit most often because they usually have what I'm looking for, at a great price and always handle things efficiently. Recently, I stopped by during the pre-sale event for the new Nintendo Switch. Since this was a special release, I knew I needed to get there early and be sure I could secure a unit. That's why I made a point to visit this particular store, which has stood out to me for its friendly staff and reliable service. One of the main reasons I keep coming back is because of a young employee named Dom. He's not just hardworking; he truly knows his stuff. No matter how busy it gets, he makes sure to answer questions clearly and helps customers understand what's best for them. Dom's attitude is calm and focused, and you can tell he genuinely cares about giving good service. He takes the time to explain features of new consoles, compare different options, and offer advice when needed. Alongside Dom, there's another employee named Jessica who also makes a strong impression. Very kind and always willing to lend a hand, no matter how simple the task. I've seen Jessica help other customer find accessories or troubleshoot an issue. Jessica has a warm attitude and makes the store feel welcoming, even when things are busy. In fact, it's the combination of dedicated staff like Dom and Jessica that keeps me trusting this store so much. One moment stands out to me as a perfect example of their great service. After I made my purchase and left the store, I realized they had accidentally made a mistake on my order. I didn't notice it right away, but they caught the error shortly after I had left. Instead of waiting for me to find out later, Dom and Jessica immediately took action. They realized what had happened and called me back to tell me about the mistake. They understood that any incorrect charge could cause frustration, so they quickly organized to fix it. When I got back to the store, the staff handled the situation in seconds. They apologized sincerely and made sure the order was corrected right then and there. Their quick response showed me they genuinely care about their customers. That experience reinforced my confidence in this store and its staff. It's rare to find such attentive and honest service today. Their willingness to admit an error and fix it right away proves they value honesty and good customer care. Their professionalism and kindness make shopping there feel less like a chore and more like visiting friends who want to help. Because of moments like this, I continue to trust and prefer this store over many others. It's not just about getting a product; it's about feeling respected and taken care of by a team that truly understands the importance of good service. Disclaimer: I do understand that some times others may have had bad experiences with customer service, but if you think about it, they are human too, they also have bad days like everyone else. If we understand that, and add a little patience. I think we will all on both sides have a great experience every time. Good Job Dom & Jessica! Keep up the good work. -RG.

I was denied a console trade-in a little over 30 minutes before the store closed. There were two…read moreemployees working, and only one customer was being helped. That customer had already left by the time I did, so the store was otherwise empty. If there is a cutoff time for console trade-ins, the store should clearly post that policy so customers know before making the trip. With more than 30 minutes remaining until closing and no other customers waiting, I was disappointed that the trade-in could not be processed. I was also planning to make some pre-orders, but after this experience, I decided to take my business elsewhere. Hopefully, the store can clarify its trade-in cutoff policy and improve the customer experience.
