So on my way back from previous appointment, I decided to stop by Gulick's Autobody, Inc, Petaluma's original bodyshop, they have been in Petaluma for decades and are involved with car shows & such. I figured what harm would it be to get an estimate without getting my insurance involved. So I parked in their expanse parking lot walked in and tried to explain my dilemma to the receptionist, before I could say more, Greg came around the counter and asked me to take him to my car, and show him the problem. And within minutes he told me what they could do, gave me an estimate, which was a very fair price and I decided to have them fix it. I will admit I was ready to try to repair it myself with a silly You Tube video & some product they recommended. But the more I thought about it, the safety issues, etc and besides who was I kidding, I didn't wanna get dirty or fail, I'm gonna leave this to the pros at Gulick's Autobody, Inc. I just needed to wait a couple days for a part, and that was fine because I needed my car for the weekend. We agreed, they called the next week day. I went in and within an hour my bumper was securely attached and looking good, safe and on the road again. So glad I went in to get a quote and work done at a reputable bodyshop.

The driver called their insurance company, AAA, and accepted the responsibility. Their AAA person reached out to me and recommended Shotwell because they were less that 10 mins from me, AAA was connected electronically with Shotwell, and Shotwells was across the street from Enterprise. I went to Shotwell, and in a few minutes after the front office took my info, the Manager, Charlelene, came out to assess what they had to do to fix it. I could only see the scrape. She could see that the bumper scarred and the sensors near the wheel and behind would needed to be checked and calibrated, and how they would fix the scrape down to the body. So check 2 for competere. The highlight was Charlene herself, whose "having fun" personality meshed well with my own. They gave me the estimate the next day, and the guess was they'd need my car for 3 days. Turned out it was a day and a half. The desk staff were great. When I dropped of my car one the staff drov me across Petaluma Blvd N. I'm 81, and I wasn't about to try and navigate across that busy read with any expections of arriving alive! I had forgotten to take my garage door opener when I dropped off the car. I called later and asked if they could get it out of the car for. No problem! It would be at the front desk. Net net, The SERVICE component was off the charts. Charlene and her folks made it an easy peasy (and fun!) experience. Oh, and the car was in close to perfect condition. What was missing? The car had been cleaned, land the drivers side had a plastic mat to keep the diet from the person who took the car out for me had left that in there. Everything else was spot on. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate Shotwell a 10. And if the the plastic wasn't there I'd give it an 11. And if got to banter with Charlene for a couple of minutes, I'd go to a 15!!

That Lee's has been a family owned business since 1969 also appealed to us. He worked with us on pricing and completion time frame unlike the other shops we approached. Many of the shops that big corporations have bought and integrated into their corporate structure, only care about the bottom line - top dollar amount at all cost - no exceptions. I called to schedule an appointment for an estimate with with owner Eric Schleth's wife-Annie, 1 week after the collision in June 2025. Annie is personality plus, and a welcome conversationalist given the lost art of conversation in the age of social media and texting . She addressed my initial concerns regarding cost, procedure, and time frame. Eric - also a congenial conversationalist - and I then went on to discuss the technical details of the necessary repairs, acquisition, and availability of parts/material required. Availability was the first obstacle - the damaged bumper and urethane cover for our model year and make were no longer available. The only inconvenience was that Eric needed additional time to instead repair the bumper ass'y and urethane cover that other collision shops would have chosen not to address. The end result was stellar, to say the least. It was worth the wait! Friends and family now comment that our 20+ year old vehicle looks like a new car! Let's talk about Eddie's Paint Works: I absolutely cannot recommend Eddie and the team here highly enough. They repaired my wife's Ford Mustang Mach-E (got hit on the passenger's door) with a warm pearl white paint color - not an easy color to nail. I absolutely, positively, CANNOT tell that the car was ever hit, nor that it was partially repainted and blended. It's incredible. I'm simply blown away in a way that's hard to put into words - I went 38 years of life thinking that no paint repair could ever be undetectable, and here I am, proven wrong. In addition to incredible artisan-quality paintwork, Eddie used new parts directly from Ford for the repair and even took the car to a Ford dealer to make sure all the safety sensors were properly recalibrated. Eddie is a true "car guy" and I found this shop by looking for shops that people trusted with their true pride and joy - sports cars, hot rods, etc. Trust those people. This was my first time dealing with an insurance claim and Eddie was incredibly helpful in educating me about the process and providing me with some advice and guidance. He worked seamlessly with my insurance and it was overall just a totally painless process. In CA, YOU have the right to choose what shop to get your car repaired at - your insurance can't tell you where to go. Do yourself a favor and go to Eddie! I hope I don't get in an accident anytime soon, but if I do, at least now I know I can go to Eddie and everything will turn out perfectly.
