Lordy lord I was looking mighty rough with my Mini fro I was around La mesa today running errands and decided to find a business to get my hair cut using yelp of course.. - it's a Monday evening ( fall back ) (time change) so the time today had me all tripped up I pulled up to this little shop Cali Fresh Cutz :) I was greeted by Anthony. - I expressed how I'm very picky on the barbers I try because there are some that have tore up my hair.. examples: cut me with edging razor, pushing hair line back smh, uneven taper. Smh ( thank goodness hair grows back) Anthony said, "no worries here, I've been cutting for over 20 years, I got you". -Anthony really took his time, started taping the sides of my head and the back of my head. Next, he started cutting my hair down to a 1/2 all around with the grain. Lastly he shaped my beard and hairline Once the finished product was complete I was impressed my boy Anthony gets down with the clippers and I recommend anyone looking for a good cut to stop by and check him out. - Anthony is versatile and can cut any type of hair. He is also from the east coast "Chicago" if you know about folks that come from Chi, NY, FL, down south they take pride in their craft and generally will stir you in the right direction when it comes to what your looking for. Barbers were really cool people, but the design I had done to my undercut is simply awful. It's uneven and he used a straight razor to "define it" and totally cut up my scalp. The photos of his design work look great, but somehow I got all uneven lines and cuts in my skin. I really wanted to like this place. He was also going to charge me $35 at first which I was happy to pay, but once he was finished he said ,"hmmm I'm only going to charge you $25". Was in need of a haircut, and was trying to find a place near my work, and I came upon this place, so I tried it out. I walked in, and Zaman was just finishing up with a customer. Me, looking like an idiot, stood within the middle of the barber shop, and had no idea what to do. Even though he was tired and wanted a break, he let me get my cut. Now THAT'S customer service. Throughout the haircut, Zaman begins to make small talk with me. Normally I don't make small talk (aside from the barber asking how I'd like my hair done), so it was really cool that we had that going, and I didn't feel awkward at all. On top of that, everyone else inside were friendly to everyone around them. The conversations we were having and listening to were funny too! Someone got locked out of their car and needed help getting back in, and Zaman and I had our own talk. REALLY nice guy! Did I mention that he sings too? Brandy's 'Have You Ever' came on their Pandora station, and he got down with it! Anyways, the haircut part was just as good with him. I got a comb over. He was very meticulous while cutting my hair. He looked at my hair various times and was always making sure that he was looking out for my best interests. He even made a few suggestions for me when i would stylize my hair. I really liked that, as in my other experiences in barber shops they just look at me and shake their heads, as if I did something wrong. New to the city and it's always hard to find a new barbershop. Cali fresh cutz was the first place i tried. Cut came out clean!

These guys are rude and unprofessional. I came in around 3pm with no other clientele in the room. Neither the black man or the Latino guy greeted or wanted to help me (that's the best I can describe them). The black guy was playing with his phone and he asked the other guy to cut my hair. All I wanted was my fade fixed because it was uneven. And I did not want to go back to the other barbershop that messed it up. Super hard right? The latino guy said "normally I charge $40 but I can get it done for $30" WTF expensive and not worth it!!! I should've walked out if I had known his work would've been mediocre. Not only that but he had some telenovela on the TV going on and took long frequent pauses watching it while trimming my hair. Unjustifiably rude, extremely unprofessional, AND ridiculously expensive. Go somewhere else!!! EDIT: This IS the right barber shop. My experience was from last year. I remember it vividly because it was so bad. I've been there three times, tonight makes four. Every time I've been there I have felt neglected as a customer. It seems if your not with the "in crowd" you get placed in a continuous cue, waiting and waiting for a cheap haircut. I waited for 2 hours this evening while I watched one guy lazily sit in one of 4 chairs, while another worker starts to wrap up....it would have been ok if he went home. Instead he begins to sit in his chair. Leaving two people left to cut hair, and that's still second to them messing around with their telephones. I would understand waiting in line for an hour if I was going to pay $60 dollars for a haircut. But for $20?!?!?! The most laziest, unprofessional, group of gentleman I have ever sadly done business with. I will never return to this establishment. Edit: Some clarification I was asked if I had an appointment yes, so in that sense I was told about the appointment policy, but I was also told I would be accommodated after a "little" bit of a wait. Now it was early afternoon I thought I could wait something like 25 maybe even 35 minutes for a chair to open up. Never was I told how many people I had in front of me nor was I given a realistic wait time. Matter of fact I saw three potential customers leave before I did. Never once in the hour and 45 minutes I sat there and 15 minutes it took me to write the review did I receive a "hey man maybe you can make an appointment for tomorrow" or even a "hey man thank you for sticking in there, it's going to be BLAH minutes before we get you sat down". I sat and waited while other people left. So now on to phones. Call me old school but I feel as if their should be a limited phone policy while in the customer service field. Simply because it's me and the other customers in front of you who are paying. And not whatever is in the other side of your cell phone. I've worked in customer service. Never have I heard it's alright to multitask both a job priority task with a task on your cellphone. I'm not going to go into detail, but I know with a great deal of certainty it was not a calendar/making appointments app. In summary, I received a response to my genuine review, Which happens to be my only one....if that says anything. It made me feel like in their line of work the customer is always wrong. I understand defending your employees, but let's be real here. I chose Cali Cutz as all of their reviews seemed positive and there were no red flags such as the "too cool" indifference attitude another shop in the area had in several Yelp reviews. Martin seated me immediately and after I let him know what I wanted, he repeated my haircut "order" to me as he understood it; in order to ensure we were on the same page. He executed the cut deftly and with precision while still taking time to "jaw" at his barber buddies. All the artists were cool and real, not "real cool faddish imps" like some other barber shops. Lifeguard's blades are too sharp or hot! Left cuts/burns which are now scabbing over on my lineup. Took way too long for a average cut. Get new blades that are not too sharp or spend less time going over and over the same lineup. Use to go here alot a few years ago. They lost some good barbers!! read more
