He'd been here twice before so knew what he was doing when we arrived. The staff could have chosen guns for me to try but I'm glad I went with someone with more experience than me who also had an understanding of what I might like. I thought I'd be nervous but I wasn't at all. The orientation was really helpful and provided good reminders. You've gotta have a healthy respect for the guns at all times. I had envisioned myself taking ridiculous photos with them to show off to my friends and by the time the orientation was done, that was no longer a consideration. It's kind of a dumb idea and dangerous. It turns out that loading a magazine with bullets and firing guns is a good time. Who knew? I had no qualms about asking questions and the Range Officer was very friendly and helpful. I didn't feel like a dummy requesting help if I needed it. I fired four different guns, including a .44 Magnum. Holy smokes, that's an insane experience. Talk about dangerous. It took specific instruction from the Range Officer and all of my arm muscles and concentration to manage firing that gun safely. What an eye opener. Yes, it can be an expensive outing but if you can handle it, I think it's something you should do once so you have a true understanding of what handling a gun is like and how important safety and awareness is. This certainly made me realize that never in life would I want a kid, cocky individual or intoxicated idiot to have access to a gun. My only wish was that I had my own target. My spouse and I had to share targets with other people so after awhile it was hard to see where my bullet holes were. It would have been a nice souvenir.

The ladies that I work with were a little hesitant (and so was I), none of us had ever gone shooting before! Our wonderful Exec Assistant organized with the club so we could enjoy a steak lunch on the deck before our afternoon of fun. After the waivers were signed, we got briefed on gun safety and shooting. We split up into teams of 4 and assigned a guide. Our guide was Rick and he was awesome! Taking into account that our group of ladies were first time shooters, he was really patient and coached us through each station. Everyone had a blast, what a great way to spend a sunny afternoon getting to know your coworkers. I'm really looking forward for summer to come; I can't wait to head out here again!

Really good fun, our instructor was fantastic! I have a lapsed PAL, so I am not completely a stranger to firearms, but I haven't shot for years. the instructors were clear about the basics without being condescending, which is great. But you can come here having never touched a real firearm, and by the end we were all able to hit a few targets. If you are curious about skeet shooting, or firearms in general, this is a very welcoming place for beginners. The best part is that they are very environmentally aware. The targets are biodegradable, and the whole club is off grid on solar and wind. If you are at all curious, check out their website, I found everyone there friendly, helpful, and patient with beginners.

However, the last time I went shooting there I was in a group shooting on the southernmost trap range, and had a gentleman run right past my group up along the hedges and out into the active trap field with a pair of large off leash dogs. When I reported this to the staff, I was told that the man is an investor, and that due to his contributions they allow him to run his dog along the edges of the trap field. They told me not to worry about it, that there was no danger of him getting hurt because the edges of the field are totally safe. Having spoken to some of the regulars, he apparently does this fairly often. Never in my life have I heard of any form of shooting range that allows people to go out past the firing line of an active shooting range, and I don't care how theoretically safe it is provided you stick to the edges, something unexpected could happen especially with multiple off leash animals involved. I do not want to be responsible for some guy or his dog(s) getting shot. That this is actively allowed by an organization that represents themselves as educators for hunting and shooting safety is baffling to me. Please do not walk your dogs on a live shooting range with dozens of shooters actively using the field at any given time. The shooting facilities themselves are outstanding. Half a dozen trap ranges, three skeet ranges, and a really awesome five stand range are all buckets of fun and great practice for sportsmen and anyone that wants to learn to shoot a shotgun well. The staff are excellent, and though I've had issues with the pay cards nearly every time I've been out there they put a great deal of effort into getting everything working for me. Without the safety concerns, I would give this location a four if not five star review.
