Consistently delicious. Be prepared to wait in line for 5-10 min during the lunch rush, and about 5 minutes for your food. Bonus points if you can figure out how the order numbers are assigned...I'm still puzzling over it. The best things: Pollo Asado burrito/burrito bowl - get this with the chipotle crack sauce. Soooo good Any quesadilla - mostly cheese but still very good. read more

If you're ever craving cheap(er) food in Mexican cuisine-deprived SoHo, Calexico Cart is a solid quick fix. Granted, you are paying "gringo prices" but thankfully, the food isn't terrible--because you can't mess up a taco...or can you? I've only been here twice for lunch and other than the halal carts you can spot on every corner and your typical, run-of-the-mill pizza place, Calexico Cart is one of the cheapest food options in the area. $4 for a taco is pretty ridiculous but unless you can make the trip to a cheap joint in Alphabet City, this is pretty much your "cheapest" option for Mexican. The food is pretty decent. I've gotten a steak burrito bowl (Calexico Carne Asada) and while it wasn't amazing like Chipotle, the amount of meat I've gotten was great and it held me over for hours. The food is solid and given the shortage of variety for food trucks in SoHo, this is a good option if you're craving something easy, quick and legit, although the guy who handles all payments and hustles for the money with a handful of cash looks like a dive bar bouncer in his night shift and seems a bit fishy. read more

Calexico Cart - Carne Asada Bowl - Street Vendors Near Me - New York, New York

I liked it a lot, but I don't think I loved it. I would walk 8 blocks to get another pollo verde taco, which was flavorful and well paired with a kickin sauce, but I would only walk 4 blocks to have another chipotle pork taco. I would dedicate a line in a review to how much I enjoyed the soft corn tortillas, but I wouldn't write them a love song. If there was a line forming, and it was 38 degrees out with 85% humidity, I would probably stand and wait if there were four people ahead of me, but not if there were five. read more

I was outside, enjoy a beautiful day in November, and taking a nice long walk during lunch when I came upon this corner of the village and as I got closer, I was mesmerized by the wonderful scents that were wafting my way. Smelled like steak, so I followed my nose to this busy but otherwise unassuming cart. I get to the cart and it seems like they are making classic Mexican street fare that would made a southern Cali native proud. I ordered the carne asada taco and took it back to the office. The flavors were spot on and the steak was tender. When the weather warms up again, I look forward to taking a walk back over here again for more wonderful treats. read more

I am an addict....This is where i trek when working downtown. From West Side Hwy I make the walk over to Prince & Wooster and you know what?? It's well worth it!!! I keep ordering the same thing, Carne Asada Rolled Quesadilla since it comes with a container of "crack" sauce...which OMG...I can almost drink (i held back...) Despite seeing a LOT of burritos being made which looked scrumptious and quite fat, I just couldn't get past the beans....Perhaps next time. Yes, next time (meaning TOMORROW) I'll finally try the burrito... *Carne Asada Rolled Quesadilla: brilliant idea rolling it! Love how they crisp it up on the grill too...it's cut in half and placed in a container with the crack sauce...you get the melted cheese...the delicious and well seasoned tender beef and the creamy/salty/with a kick sauce. You just cant go wrong!!! Nice and quick service...they've got efficiency down pat! mmm total addiction. read more

I swore I yelped this place....me loves the crack sauce. I haven't ate here in awhile, but I was craving their food after H got their Quesadilla. I never got their plain version, but for some reason I wanted to try it today - OMG too much. I should have stuck with some sort of protein. I am not a huge cheese eater. *sigh* read more

'YUM' is the only word that I can use to describe this amazing food. With burritos, quesadillas, bowls & tacos to choose from, this food card does not disappoint. You'll spend between $9-$12 on a good amount of food that's filling & tasty. My favorite is the carne asada burrito bowl with a side of crack sauce. It will blow your mind. read more

Very solid chipotle pork taco for only $3! The meat was tender and flavorful with a nice kick and a dollop of sour cream; it was also decently sized, too. The gringo with ground, seasoned beef, jack cheese, and salsa in a crispy shell is also pretty good. The quesadillas are fantastic with a freshly grilled tortilla shell, plenty of cheese, delicious "crack" sauce and seasoned meat; I love the chipotle pork with pinto beans added. It's very filling and only $7.50. The line can be long during lunch hours but I just take a later lunch break so I can get my Mexican food cart fix. read more

This place is nothing short of super efficient and wonderfully delicious. I work at a food tech startup nearby (proof further that I know good food) and we always go to this truck for a quick lunch that will hit the spot. The line can get super long but the wait is never bad because the process is power-housed by the coolest bouncer-like bro you ever did see. He gets your order, types it in, and sends you off in the corner to wait for your scrumptious meal. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything here but my personal faves are the pollo asado quesadilla or bowl. Make sure to ask for their legendary crack sauce and if you're a spice addict like me, go ahead and let em know you'd like it extra spicy. They'll douse it with some green sauce that will give you a nice flavah kick. The only con? Cash only. For card people like me, I find myself having to venmo my generous, cash-happy coworkers on the reg. read more

I just had my first and definitely not my last glorious burrito from this cart! The guys who ran the cart were super helpful and nice and the food was so well flavored it just tastes like joy! Every single bite will make you dance in your seat with how good it is! Love it! read more

This is the best burrito I have ever had. I got the pollo asado and it was smokey, well seasoned and delicious. Highly recommended. read more

Pollo Asado burrito is solid--albeit non-traditional and probably not worth all the hype around it. The chicken is grilled fresh with a nice char and the avocado sauce it's tossed in is flavorful, but not plentiful enough. The rice and beans also don't have much flavor. Tortilla is perfect. If you go, get a side of the Crack Sauce, which is essentially a chipotle mayo. It rounds out the flavor and makes it really nice. Granted, Mexican shouldn't need anything mayo based, but this is New York City. And NYC is allergic to authentic Mexican. read more

Read some great reviews about the calexico cart so i decided to try it out last week. I got the black bean burrito and it was good, but it wasn't GOOD. as in, i wouldn't be thinking about that burrito right now (or ever) if it weren't for this review, you know what i'm sayin? (also a review down below said this burrito was "huge"...... chill.) anyway. it was a "solid" burrito but it didn't give me strong feelings either way. the crack sauce is good, but i'm sorry, you're setting high standards for yourself by calling it crack. i think i'm going to go back and try one of their options with meat, because my coworkers thought the lamb and chicken were perfectly seasoned and cooked. overall, if you're around, you might as well hit up calexico cart (our wait wasn't too bad -- around 20 minutes. i probably wouldn't wait much longer than that). but i think i was just a little sad because i expected to be blown away. alas. read more

You won't be disappointed. . . . that is if you don't mind the 30 min wait during the lunch crowd. Very simple, fresh meats/burrito/quesadilla with of course the CRACK SAUCE!!! It's hard to knock these guys but I do have to make one suggestion to the owners, PLEASE GET A CREDIT CARD SCANNER FOR PAYMENTS!! not everyone carries cash around anymore. https://squareup.com or https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/credit-card-reader read more

I would give an extra star but I can't because the hostess--the guy who takes your order is always rude. I go there all the time thinking maybe I will get my food on time and won't be cut in line but the hostess allows people to cut you AND if your not cut he gives your order to someone else who was behind you who happened to order the same thing. HOWEVER the cooks prep and grill some delicious burritos and quesadillas. read more

We go out of our way to order from here several times a week from our office down in FiDi. The portions are generous, the flavors are on point and the food is out of this world (esp. for a food cart with the kind of line this one gets!) A MUST-eat. read more

The food was SO good! But the wait really, really sucked. Like I think we waited almost 45 mins. Ordering isn't difficult, walk right up and place your order. But you will wait, and wait, and wait. I only got the black bean bowl which blew Chipotle out of the water. Everything tastes so fresh. Not sure how they do they out of a cart! I didn't try any of the meats, will have to do that next time. Good thing I can see this from my office. I will be back! read more

The Calexico Cart is to die for. I have gone there day after day after day. These guys are great and the food is even better. The rolled quesadillas are great tasting and amazingly done. These folks give carts a new meaning! The "crack" sauce that this place gives is truly addictive. There is a line especially during lunch time and these guys sometimes close up earlier than one would like. read more

Mmmm such good food. There's usually a long wait but that's because it's so popular and delicious, plus they move fast! Always the same guy taking orders and he's great, so awesome and efficient. Good job guys! Thanks for all the burritos. read more

Pretty good, always fresh Tex Mex food. Francisco, who takes your order, is always friendly and consistently quick.

It's all about the pollo asado---it is revelatory. I didn't know how good grilled chicken could be. They use top notch tortillas for the burritos. Excellent guac. read more

Is it really worth the 30+ min wait? No - and that's why you should get there at 11:30am so you only have to wait 5 min for your taco or burrito. Calexico is definitely better than most Mexican places but obviously it isn't the same as the eateries in SoCal. Follow them on Twitter because they aren't always at their typical spot every day (in fact they were on hiatus for quite some time last year) read more

Super tasty, authentic food. The tacos were great and the chips and crack sauce were really, really good. I thought the carne asada was a little well-done for me and there was something sour that tasted a little off. Not sour-bad, but sour-citric. It wasn't lime. Either way, I'd order the pollo verde and carnitas again in a heart-beat, but only if there's no line. The wait was a little outrageous and slightly costly, but worth it. read more

This is my lunch at least twice a week and it's hard to beat. $9 Carne Asada burrito made with all fresh ingredients including USDA marinated skirt steak. Try the "crack" sauce too. read more

Love this cart! Best tacos in soho! One star down due to the extremely long waits between 12 and 2... Seriously can be 40 minutes sometimes!

Very good tacos pollo verde/asada and quesadillas. If you show up on a chilly or cloudy day, or at a non-lunch-rush time, you won't have much of a wait at all. Wait times can get near 40 minutes on a sunny summer day, but I usually put in my order, ask about the estimated wait time, do some errands, and come back to a ready order instead of standing in line. read more

Food cart that operates like a restaurant. Always fresh, always on point. You come here and you know what your getting, never on and off days. Really cool staff as well. read more

Calexico Cart - Two chicken tacos to go. - Street Vendors Near Me - New York, New York

I get lunch here every weekday I can. Simply delicious. If you hit "rush hour" there will be thirty people waiting, but they are miraculously quick. For a couple of weeks, the cart was out of action, and I tried many other places & carts, but nothing compared. All I wish for is two Calexico carts! The three who work the cart work very hard and are very nice. Tip them!! read more

Cant get much better than this. Quick, easy and pretty well priced. Skip the crack sauce.

Yes, sometimes there is a crazy long wait.... but it is worth it! Seriously amazing food, the stand alone calexico restaurant does not compare to the truck!!! Quesadilla and crack sauce! read more

I'm from southern California, and while passing by this place I just had a huge craving for Mexican food. I'm so glad I stopped here on my way to the spa. It totally hit the spot. read more

Raised their rates.. Now less meat.. Wheres the beef?!! If i wanted to pay resturaunt prices i would go to a resturaunt.

Calexico is the best! They are across the street from my office, so I go there on a weekly basis. If there is a wait, just walk around Soho or go shopping for a bit and then pick up your order when it's ready. They are always friendly, and organized, and the wait is really not that long. Calexico, please come to Astoria, we are really lacking in good, inexpensive Mexican food here! read more
