Got there around 630 on a Wed night, was pretty empty except for a few barflies and a few people in the outdoor dining area. Decent drink and beer menu. I got a white sangria that was pretty tasty. We just wanted to snack on some apps so we ordered the Mac and Cheese (based off reviews), stuffed avocados and short rib tacos. Mac and Cheese was good but could've been a little bit cheesier - the pulled pork added a nice meatiness to the dish and the fried onions complemented it nicely. The short rib tacos had a great balance of sweet and spicy and was super tasty. But the star of the show for us were the stuffed avocados - now you're thinking how? Food was hit-or-miss. Fried green beans were a good idea, and the dipping sauce tasty. The deconstructed Cuban wrap lacked mustard, didn't have enough cheese, and ended up with a mushy cat food texture. Texture would probably be improved by being made with solid pork (which is traditional) instead of pulled pork. Normally the ingredients in a Cubano have a lot of flavor, but in this case they were weak enough the flavor of the wrap came through. Sadly, the curried chicken sandwich lacked any sort of curry flavor, though was otherwise OK. Good selection of drinks, quality was OK. In general, we love dining off of Broadway because the food experiences are very good and the crowds tend to be more manageable. On a Tuesday night in July, this was definitely the case at C&B. There were no other diners inside and plenty of off street parking available. Every. Beer. That we wanted to order was out! Settled for a Grey Sails Pour Judgement IPA (which I'd had before and loved), but still a little strange to be directed to the beer list and then told that you're out of the 2 we decide to order. My boyfriend and I both ordered the "Tuna Says A Me" for dinner. It looks like a cool fusion dish with tempura squash and a seared, yet still rare tuna steak (the way we like it!). All in all, it was interesting. The tuna ends were definitely cooked all the way through and the "squash" was a sweet potato. The tempura batter was thick too (like fish and chips thick). This dish had some wasabi rice, which was tasty, but the rice was a little over mushed. Good ideas for flavors together, but the execution for me was a little off. Our friends had the braised short rib entre and the salmon BLT with fries. The short ribs were COVERED in cheese. He took about half of it off and said, "this is cool, but just too much." Our other friend commented that the fries were really greasy, but that the sandwich was really good. Not quite a hit, but not a total miss either. My boyfriend got the seared fish entree with risotto that wasn't actually risotto...it was some weird mashed potatoey cheesey thing with this sweet BARBECUE surrounding it. Who puts barbecue sauce with fish? I got the short rib tacos and there was feta and pesto on top of them.... The flavors just really did not go together at all. We also had the calamari for an app and they put some Asian twist on it with extremely sweet peanut sauce. It was very bad. Everything was weirdly sweet. The espresso martini wasn't good either. The owner even came to check on us. This is a very well run restaurant with good food, good people for a good time! We were excited to come based on recent reviews - but it was just not very good. I did love the ambience with booths facing out but thats about it. Dumplings - very tiny and drenched in soy sauce. Tacos were mushy and very greasy. The chicken parm dip was ok - but again - chicken was very greasy. My son did like his fried chicken sandwich. For the prices, it just wasn't worth it. Stopped by on a Beautiful Sat afternoon. Located on Broadway ,prob 1/4 mile prior to Thames. They have outdoor seating on the sidewalk which is a nice touch .We decided to go inside and sat right at bar. Small horseshoe type bar that seats maybe 12 ? Our barmaid was attentive and pleasant. I ordered a super spicy Broadway Bloody Mary. Nice touch with the bacon and blue cheese stuffed olive. Went right to the Burger with mozzarella and aioli ...different but very tasty . Cooked perfectly with no grizzle. A tad light on the ketchup. Hate it when they give u this tiny cup of ketchup and u have to ask for more. I like my condiments ...so give me the whole bottle ! I'm of two minds minimum about giving this place an OK rating and really can't point to anything overly off putting about it. It definitely is a local watering hole with many a loyal customer propped on its many barstools. I guess that means lots of local "color". The dining area is roomy and the booths and tables are well spaced so you're not dining on top of one another, although we happened to be there on a girl's night out among a group of possibly the loudest over-refreshed cackling chorus I've encountered in a long time. But there's no reason to be churlish since audible evidence of people enjoying themselves was in such short supply during the pandemic. The food portions are generous and the fish and chips on a bed of mint and pea hummus was almost too rich and filling to manage. Service was friendly and relaxed. We tried the tuna appetizer, the beet pasta with mushroom meatball and the mahi. Th fish dishes were both excellent. The fresh tomatoes with the mahi was fresh, tasty and complemented the fish nicely. The beet pasta with mushroom meatballs were very good and a nice change. The sauce was tasty, but I think they could have added a bit more (since they run on the dry side). With drinks, the app, dinners, tax and tip, the bill worked out to be $60, a good price anywhere, but a bargain in Newport. read more

Very neat location with great decor screaming hipster. The staff is unbelievably friendly - no joke, every single bartender and waiter working was over the top nice! Food menu is super unique. We got the shrimp corn cakes to start - shrimp had greet flavor, cakes were a little dry. For our meal we had the chili lime cod and bbq rib sandwich. Cod had great flavor and was cooked perfectly, the rice it was on lacked spice to match the fish. The sandwich was to die for! Meat was delicious and tender, and the bread was a cheddar biscuit that fell apart in your mouth! The sandwich is definitely what I would recommend. read more

Brief Line Up Front: Pleasant Bar to grab a drink, an appetizer, and small meal. Wife and I have came here a few times for drinks and have always had a good time. Finally, we ate a dinner here since we live a stone's throw away and we were not disappointed. We started off with he duck flatbread. The duck was soft and done right, usually I find most places over cook it and it becomes gamy. The balsamic vinegar and cheese pair well with it. Only gripe I had was there is a ton of balsamic on it, and with just the flatbread is a bite overpowering. If they put it on the side it would be better I ordered a burger, they cooked it medium for me and I had no complaints. The wife had the chicken sandwich and it was super juicy. There was a potato wedge in it which was nice and soft and gave a nice texture contrast. Next time I'm going for the chicken sandwich, thing looked amazingly tasty. Ate here over the weekend with a large group. They don't accept reservations so we just got lucky with an outdoor table being available. Our waitress was nice but a little....off. She just had a very aloof vibe and kept laughing at every question we asked. The drinks were good although my espresso martini was wayyyy too sweet. We had a great overall experience here. When we go out, I want the whole experience: service, atmosphere/vibe, and food. All equally important to us. We went on a Monday and it was jam packed with a twenty minute wait. I had no idea that it would be that crowded on a Monday, but when we sat down and our server alerted us to the fact that their entrees were $10 that night, wow, we understood the wait. Also though, we've walked by here on many a night in the summer and it's usually packed, I take that as a good sign, consistently. Our server was fantastic. She was slammed, but very prompt, friendly, explained everything well. Our cocktails were delicious, I can't say the bartenders were very friendly, nor that good. I stood in front of the bar for over ten minutes without even a nod, never got a drink... they were very busy, but just a nod, or a "We'll be right there", goes so far with me. I used to bartend for years, so I get it, but I never let someone stand there like a doofus, obviously wanting a drink, but ignoring them. Luckily our server was on it and a sweetheart. We had the mussels in a fennel, garlic cream sauce, they were good. Sweet and decent, not a ton of flavor in the broth, but good enough. Then I ordered the sesame encrusted tuna, it came out perfectly rare, was a gorgeous piece of fresh tuna, not a ton of flavor either, I wish there was some wasabi or ginger, but the quality of the fish for that price was amazing. My husband had the ribs that came with mashed potatoes and brussell sprouts, they nailed this dish. The fall off the bone ribs, cooked perfectly, great bbq sauce, loved the caramelized brussels, absolute perfection. The prices were great being the entrees were $10, but I'd go back and pay full price. I came here based on the reviews and it was very underwhelming. Someone said the food was good even tho their drinks weren't. So I gave it a try. Duck confit entree- dry duck, mash potatoes and spinach was okay nothing special. Macaroni and cheese with pork and onion- was okay, I usually eat on the under salted side and I thought it needed more seasoning. Seared tuna salad- the tuna Salad was good but it came with a big clump of white rice. It needed some toasted sesame seeds, sesame oil and maybe some crunchy noodle. On a recent Saturday afternoon, we were in Newport doing some sightseeing and stumbled into Caleb & Broad just looking for a quick lunch. From the outside, this seemed like a typical bar/bistro, but oh my! - the food is amazing here! Since we were unable to decide what single item we wanted, we sampled a bunch of the starters. Each one was AMAZING. The short rib tacos were the best I have ever had. The sauces absolutely made the dish. The fried avocado wedges were equally enjoyable. Beautifully prepared and super yummy. This place is legit. Has a really nice bar area and an open seating area. In fact when I went to eat no one was actually seating at the booths. Everyone was sitting at the bar or outside. I only had one thing at the bar and that was the bloody mary. It is really good. I believe they once won a bloody mary competition way back. Don't quote me on this one. But I read it somewhere. But even if they didn't they should have cause its good. Most places go way too thick with the bloody mary mix but here they make it perfectly. Try one for your self. I got a tuna appetizer which was okay. It seemed fresh but nothing that I haven't tried before elsewhere. Shrimp Curry was great. I know this dish got mixed reviews on yelp but I thought it was tasty. The shrimp had nice grill flavor and was pretty big. Had a pretty good kick to it which was nice. All in all a very good spot. The prices are also very reasonable for Newport. This is the kind of place that you can call your home base. Look forward to trying other dishes here. read more
