Order & Pick Up
Dixie B.

We were working in Highlands, and decided to get a coffee at Calders. They have a seating area in the back, but everyone seemed to prefer crowding into the front area. And there was a crowd when we arrived at around 11:30. We were able to get our order in fairly quickly, and waited near the pickup area, where they also have a good setup for adding sweeteners, etc. My only issue -- and it's a big one -- is that the cream I asked for was put into my espresso Cold. That took the temperature of the coffee down to tepid. Not good on a cold day when you're craving Hot Coffee.

I thought Calder's was a convenient spot for a good cup of coffee. The lines can get long at peak times but the staff worked hard to get everyone through in an efficient manner. Would definitely come back if I'm back in the area!

Such a wonderful coffee shop on the Main Street of Highlands, the baristas are so kind, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and there's plenty of seating to read a book, enjoy a treat or work on your computer. They have pastries, sandwiches, bagged coffee, real matcha and even merch :)

Amazing local artist.

Such a warm and friendly vibe, this coffee shop has rockstar baristas that all make you feel very welcomed. You can tell that the owners really care about this shop and put a lot of love in the place and I'm excited to check it out each time I visit Highlands. Love the variety of local food products that can be found here, especially the farm fresh eggs and the artwork.

Carmel Americano with heavy cream.

I just love to find locally owned coffee shops. They're always more friendly, better coffee and better prices. Calders Coffee Cafe is just that and more. Located in the heart of Downtown Highlands NC right on Main St. A perfect place to dip into for a break from all the shopping action. If it's warm out, try the cold brew. If it's a bit chilly definitely the hot blends. And if you need a little boost of energy, their delicious baked goods will be the choice for you. For me, it was a chilly day so I went with the hot Americano with a shot of heavy cream and a dash of Carmel flavor. Delicious. And the staff was all so friendly and helpful. I'm not a expert on all these different kinds of coffees and they seem to sense my lack of knowledge. Lol They were so sweet in explaining their coffees and things to put in them. I left thinking what a cool coffee shop with an awesome helpful staff.

I had high expectations of this coffee shop due to its location. The coffee was basic at best. You could make a better cup of coffee at home. The breakfast sandwich tasted like a frozen Jimmy dean you can get at Walmart. The shop was cute and very clean. They definitely know how to decorate. Also much bigger than I had expected. Service was great. Very friendly staff. I would definitely review my menu and try and get some higher end products.

Oatmilk cafe au lau

I really wanted to give them a 1 star, but the place is really warm feeling and the staff there were very friendly. But geez! You are a coffee shop. Have good coffee! I got the cafe au lau with oatmilk for a substitute. It tasted like dirty water. I added ALOT of honey to make it drinkable, which normally I don't add anything. Another thing that thew me off...$1.50 for oatmilk substitute. What in the world? And it is not the barista oatmilk. It has to be an off brand because it tasted blah. Not allergy friendly here, more like so sad... now pay for your own half gallon of oatmilk. Can I bring my own oatmilk? Now there is a thought! I think this is the only coffee shop in town, which really surprises me because we are in the mountains. I feel like they go hand in hand. I read another review that raved about their London Fog ( I think that is what it was), so when I need another pick me up I will be trying that.

Cold brew

Great coffee shop with lots of seating for a rainy day in Highlands. We got 16oz cold brew (very smooth) and a turkey, cheddar and bacon sandwich. It was served hot and very good.

Calder's Coffee seems like your average run-of-the-coffee-mill shop in the middle of town. And it is. Down the stairs and in the back: There's a unisex restroom that is as wide as it is tall, the classic bulletin boards with flyers and business cards for local events and people; some chairs for seating, free Wi-Fi and some surge protector power bars for plugging in laptops and mobile devices. The coffee offerings are average: iced, drip, espresso, and latte iterations with syrups and alternative milk options. There a display case of baked goods merely just for display but the menu board are digital flat screens. I'm a huge breakfast fan so I got the bacon, egg and cheese on croissant bun. The best thing about it: it was steaming hot. The bun itself was very, very toasty. I had to open it up to let it cool down. And I appreciated that. But the croissant was more of a brioche-style than croissant in the shape of a bun. It has swirls, but that's where the comparison ended. I needed something to eat, otherwise I'd not order that again. Overall, the place was okay. I liked the mountain-rustic-wood grain decor but everything else was just average.

Great coffee house in the heart of downtown Highlands. Solid light food options (including gluten free) and non dairy options as well.

Such a shame to have a cute coffee shop, in this cute town and it's sucks! The coffee is so bitter...even the light roast. Blahhhhhh!

Deviled eggs are some of the best I've had, ever! Country fried steak was obviously cut from some prehistoric bird! Everything about the restaurant was so special, amazing location for a sunset dinner, perched high above the Blue Ridge Mountains - amazing views. The best thing is if you stay at the Skyline Lodge, it's just steps away from your room and that comes in super handy when it's brunch time! We were fortunate enough to enjoy these two meals; dinner & brunch with our kids (who are foodies too) and they are now huge fans of Oak Steakhouse. They said it was the best steak they ever had, you can't go wrong with the Filet! The menu is not huge but really has all of the dishes you would want for an amazing dinner. Plenty of options, even if you don't eat steak. Amazing sides to accompany each dish and you must start with the bread, which is made in-house. I went with a dish I have not tried before and it did not disappoint, Venison Wellington while my wife tried the trout. I will let the photos do the talking. They also pour an amazing espresso martini by the way and to finish you have to try the chocolate cake, trust me! We also want to give a shot out to all of the staff and servers; their attention to detail and overall service was outstanding! Seems to be the case at all Indigo Road establishments, they really know hospitality. We cannot recommend Oak Steakhouse enough, even if you're not staying there but in the Highlands of NC make sure you give them a visit.

Ended up using the back of the booth for our water bottle and condiments and still struggled for space. Buffalo wings were good but not exactly Buffalo. No buttery spicy hot sauce. It was more peppery than buffalo. Wings were cooked perfectly though Reuben is excellent as are the jalapeno Mac bites. Cheese dip was also excellent but we (and the table next to us) had to ask for more chips. Not portioned terribly well. Beer options were very slim (2 on tap from what it gathered). I'm sure there were plenty of bottled options but draft was disappointing. We ordered the ale but they tapped out and brought us brown ale. At 5pm...only a brown and stout on tap. Overall, it was a pretty middling experience but the food was good and they offer a military appreciation discount.
