We have always been apprehensive about calling for servicing our A/C. Our central air unit was shutting off on its own unexpectedly during the recent heat wave so we called Mike. He came out, took one look at the unit and realized that the cooling fan was running in reverse. He told us that the fan motor needed to be replaced and that he had one in his truck. But before replacing the motor he gave the coils on the unit a good thorough washing which took him awhile so that by the time he got around to actually replacing the motor itself he discovered that he had the wrong one: ours turned out to be a dual-run motor and he only had a single-run in his truck. By then it was too late to get the right one as the parts store was already closed so we had no air conditioning until the next day (fortunately Mike gave us a portable A/C unit for the night!). The next morning Mike called to say that he had been looking at our original fan motor overnight and thought that he could get it to work without any need for replacement. And he DID! The A/C is up & running normally once again. Mike felt so bad about having not finished the job correctly the day before that HE REFUSED TO CHARGE US A SINGLE PENNY! Not even the basic service fee! On top of which he left us with 2 brand new air filters and the new capacitor he installed! Mike really knows his stuff and in fact he actually teaches air conditioning besides doing repairs. Of course my senior parents' AC breaks during the hottest week of the year! After getting the run around with their builder for a decently new home, the builder determined that they wouldn't be willing to help us because we are just shy outside of our warranty. It was the first day of heating up here in California so naturally we turned on our air conditioner for the first time since last summer. Worked great. Then the next day went to turn on again, after a while noticed it was actually heating up our house rather then cooling it. I lowered the temp even more and thought it would kick in soon. Well long story short it never did. It instead heated our house to almost 100 degrees. It was was a horrible nightmare. No one could sleep and I have 2 small babies. We had to open every window in the house and it didn't cool off until 3am. Needless to say no one got any sleep. The next day first thing in the morning I got on yelp to call a few places. In short - Very professional, clean, and THOROUGH. Came out multiple times to make sure the problem was fixed. Priced very fairly for the job to replace the core in the attic. Long-ary - So my 3 yr old brand new townhome's ac decided to go out...in the last few scorching weeks of summer...on a Thursday evening. (oh joy) so upon reviewing, and calling many many many different places, Mike was one of the most affordable, not to mention willing to go out of his way. He offered to come out within 30 minutes (430p on a Friday evening) as he was on his way home. WOW! He did have to come out repeatedly as the problem wasn't fixed the first time due to there being two problems (which we only found one the first time and thought that would be it). But when coming in the house, always wore a shoe cover, and when having to replace the unit in the attic, placed a plastic tarp on the whole area that would be affected by debris. This was a bonus and testament to their quality of work. He was also the only one (out of 3 others) that was able to warranty the unit (as it was right at the expiration of the warranty) with his vendors. This would have been another minimum addition of $400! Would definitely recommend Mike to friends and family and do not doubt that he will get the job done at a fair price. My AC system died just as scorching hot weather started up. I knew to call Calcoms because I've used them before and was very happy with the high quality of service I received. I called Friday and I was able to get an appointment that very day. Micheal arrived, surveyed the system and did some troubleshooting to pinpoint the problem which turned out to be an electrical component in the condenser unit. He fixed the problem and did a thorough inspection of the AC system to make sure everything else was OK. He kept me informed of what he was doing through out the service call. He also mentioned that I might want to replace my thermostat with a newer wifi thermostat. At first I didn't see a very good reason to replace the thermostat, but I am so glad I did. I didn't realize what pain in the neck my old thermostat was until I experienced the new one. It has great features and it also eliminated batteries which was a pain in the neck because besides replacing the batteries I had to reprogram date and time. Michael educated me in how to keep my condenser clean to maximize performance and conserve energy. What a relief be back in service so quickly. I was so happy with the service and professionalism, I was actually happy to pay the bill, which by-the-way, was very reasonable. Calcoms is my "go to" AC service company. I won't use anyone else. I have noticed secondary pipe leak and my primary drain pan was very rusted so the water went to the secondary.
