Plenty of parking in the lot, and had aesthetic vibes. The menu was short and had a fair selection. I ordered the a cappuccino with villain sauce. I've visiting Calaveras Coffee twice, both en route to Pinnacles & loved it! Their seasonal coffees are always great, the staff is nice, & the inside is super cute. I made the drive down to Hollister to check this coffee shop and it did not disappoint. Beyond a scenic green mountain drive from all the rain we found our coffee shop after making a double circle around the parking lot. I looked for signage at the top of the building but because of their recent move I assume they haven't gotten to it. As you walk in you notice the bright pink and white wals, cabinets with so many vinyls, plants, and local small business stuff like soaps and coffee shop merchandise. We were welcomed in and the barista (MIA) was so friendly. We chatted up Coffee recommendations, local spots, etc. She recommended drinks for our next visit like the Villan. I ordered a hot latte and a hot chocolate for my kiddo. I usually take my coffee to go but decided to sit and enjoy the vibe at the coffee shop. There's plenty of sitting and a couple spots outside the shop. My latte was good. Coffee was strong. The temperature of the coffee was also good. My kiddo enjoyed his hot chocolate! After enjoying our drinks we picked out a shirt for my kiddo and one for me. We also grabbed a couple stickers and we were on our way. I enjoyed the overall experience. The customer service was great. The shop has a nice vibe and a beautiful set up. There's a record player in the corner keeping the place filled with music. Spacious place for groups. Clean bathrooms stocked up with sanitary products for the ladies! I enjoyed my visit and look forward to returning. This definitely could be my everyday coffee shop if only I was closer! read more

Was in Hollister for a wedding event (which was a bender), thus we needed coffee on Sunday morning. Found Calavera through Yelp, decided to give it a shot. First impression - it's hard to find! It's in a strip mall with an Ace Hardware and a McDonald's....but because they've recently moved, there is NO obvious signage, and the map location is two doors wrong. Nevertheless, parking in front of the old location has a handwritten sign pointing you to the new location. I had both an espresso shot and one of their "Villains". Shot was well presented, taste was complex and finish was clean. A sign of good coffee, thoughtfully roasted, well-dosed and drawn. The Villian (my first ever, obviously) is much sweeter than I had imagined. Too sweet for my wife, who asked for a "half sweet" version instead. When the rest of our bedraggled party finally arrived (all visiting from out of state for the wedding), they found their matcha latte different than they were expecting (consistency appeared to be as thick as green pea soup), but black coffee was very good. Also, dug the selection of pastries and other food. Bonus, they are big advocates of vinyl (records), ambient music is from a turntable and they sell new released vinyl in the corner, as well as roasted coffee beans and a little swag. Next time I'm back in Hollister, I'll be back...but if I order their popular Villian, it will be half-as-sweet (or less) than their default. read more

Super cute vibe Our friends recommended this place. We loved the vinyl record playing out if the old school looking box speakers. The local art showcased in the hall way was awesome. Was passing through Hollister and stopped in to grab an early morning coffee before hitting the nearby offroad park. It's a tiny shop in a strip mall next to an Ace Hardware - blink and you just might miss it. I knew I had found the right place when I walked in and am welcomed by the familiar blue bags of Cat & Cloud (one of my favorite roasters). I was also given a big greeting from the young women baristas. This is the kind of shop that local regulars frequent (they knew the customers that came in after me by their names) so they chatted me up while they made my drink and were super friendly. Hollister is basically a coffee wasteland in the middle of a farming community, so the fact that I could get a quality latte with some of my favorite espresso super early in the morning as I was passing through was a major plus for me. As I plan on returning again to offroad at the SVRA nearby, I'll definitely stop in again. Hopefully next time I come by they have a restroom open for customer use and some vegan breakfast options :) read more

Calavera Coffee is an excellent boutique coffee shop. It's the only specialty cafe around Hollister and one of the most important, I'd say. It's a great coffee shop with pour overs, excellent espressos and drips, pastries and even merchandise! They use Vertigo coffee which is a coffee house straight from San Juan Bautista. Their espresso is flavorful with a nice cherry taste while their drip has light body. My wife had their lavender latte which tasted like the real thing. It had strong floral notes and a nice scent; it's probably the best lavender latte we've had! I'd like to thank the barista employees for helping us and teaching us about their coffees, etc. They are young and full of youth. Their decor is great with flowers and bright lights with good music spinning from a vinyl. If you're around the area, stop in for a fresh cup of coffee. I would totally come back again! read more

This place IS IT. My favorite coffee anywhere. Iced mocha, add vanilla and it tastes like chocolate milk! SO GOOD. I love that they source their baked goods from local businesses as well. Perfect place to go and grab a Oatmilk Lavender Latte! So good! It's literally right across the street from Starbucks but imo, so much better! I love that I can run in and grab a bottle of what I want, hassle free. We've also purchased their beans and made our own coldbrew out of it and it's bomb! Was just there 15 minutes ago and went straight to Yelp to give them a 5 star! The shop itself has the coolest vibe. Halloween is my favorite holiday so a calavera/skull vibe is right up my alley. Aesthetic wall paintings and color with just the right amount of decor. They are playing music but using a record player for that deep rich vinyl sound that I love. Also not playing that generic coffee shop music but Lo-Fi! YES! I got the mocha x-tra hot and while it wasn't as hot as I would have liked it the flavor is all there. Some places have their chocolate flavor overpowering the coffee taste but not Calavera Coffee! Now lastly, the cherry on top of our great experience this morning... the customer service! The staff was very friendly and genuine in their interactions. Working in food service I know that some people have their normal face and their customer service face (hides the fact that they hate being there) but at this shop the whole staff looks genuinely happy to be there and proud of their product. We live in Gilroy but will be making a point to stop here on our weekends in Hollister. Great job Calavera Coffee! read more

We stopped here while on a roadtrip to a new destination. I'm so happy I found this place. Definitely one of my favorite coffee shops on the trip, so happy I found it. The inside is decorated well and reminds me of one of my favorite coffee shops in Palm Springs. I love that they have Holy Kakow flavor syrups (even available to purchase the bottles!). Between the 3 coffee shops on this little street, Calavera Coffee is by far the BEST! The shop is small but very hip as if you're walking into a coffee boutique. Their drinks are unique and taste great. My favorite is their seasonal Spicy Mocha, and their permanent item LoFi. Recently I tried their seasonal "Whatever It Is" and... I never knew the aromas of chai and strawberry basil can pair so well together with macadamia milk! Who knew?! It tastes like cinnamon and cardamom at first sip and then the floral sweetness sets in on your tongue in the aftertaste. It was very interesting; I got to taste the seasons of Spring and Fall all at once in the middle of Winter! read more

I went here twice during my short getaway to the Pinnacles under a friend's high recommendations on coffee. And yes they do have good coffee. I'm normally a basic espresso shot or Americano person but ended up trying the cardamom latte and we as blown away. All lactose intolerant people should rejoice as it seems the norm for coffee shops to have alternative milks like almond and oat now. I had my latte with oat and it blew me away. The cardamom added a nice spicy punch and was very unique to other lattes I've had. Would recommend if you like bold and spicy. My second drink was an iced diablo. I'm trying to cut down sugar so I asked for it to be less sweet but that was my fault because the drink ended up being bland. It was like an interesting coffee but nothing to come back for. I'd recommend getting the drink unmodified as they know what they're doing and if you're going to get a coffee with interesting flavors, might as well enjoy it. I'll be back whenever I'm in the area.
