But the staff was friendly and we were able to get a seat without too much of a wait. I'm giving this restaurant 5 stars primarily because the offer something very unique. A vegetarian Ragu with seitan. This place is known for great ragu, which is meat based. But they offer a vegitarian version that was very good. I got a mushroom pasta dish that was very tatsy and filling. I could only eat half due to how filling it was. My wife got an Aperol spritz and I got an italian beer. If we were back in the area we'd likely stop back in to rty other options on their large menu.

He even had some sample dry pastas with him to physically show me as a little demonstration, which I thought was really nice and appreciated very much. I ended up ordering the fresh scialatielli with ragu and ricotta (€13.50), which was simple yet tasty. The fresh pasta was cooked very well with a classic preparation. They also gave a generous amount of parmesan on the side. I also tried the fresh lemonade, which was very lemony and slightly fizzy for additional refreshment. The place is somewhat small inside but I was able to get a table without any wait. The kitchen is right next to the seating area, so it's kind of cool to see the cooks right there. Overall, Tandem is a great place for pasta dishes with very friendly service.

Forget Florence and Pisa and Montalcino and head south to where the coffee and bread are ten times better. This second story gem is down at sea level in the port of Pozzuoli, and I have eaten there about twenty times. Be advised: the menu is very, very limited. You can get a starter of octopus or a plate of olives. There are a couple of seafood pastas and risotto pescatore. Then you can get some fish or some fried calamari or shrimp. That's about it. But the guys who run the place are great, and I love to watch them interact with foreigners --- by which I mean anyone who lives more than ten miles away!! I first ate here in about 1986, and the young guy that was our waiter then was our waiter in April of this year, and one of the old cooks was still down in the kitchen. Don Antonio and his wife are long gone, but his son is still there every night it is open. I highly recommend this place for an adventurous eater, but don't go there and waste a table if you are wanting some sort of special fancy meal. This is where small groups of old friends go for good food in a simple setting.

Imagine walking down a small street to pass by a restaurant with no sign on the outside. My wife and I arrived around eight (silly Americans) to be scolded by the cutest old lady telling us to get out that she wasn't ready yet. We were eventually cordially invited inside where you walk into a little kitchen. My wife's grandmother lives in Italy and she always says she won't go to restaurants because she can't see the kitchen. Well I think this solves that issue. We were sat at a table in the back. Being that we didn't speak Italian did make this off the beaten path/ non-tourist restaurant a little difficult but we managed. It was a multi course meal that I believe must have been from heaven. The appetizers were delicious followed by the most delicious veal that I've ever encountered. My wife almost had a heart attack at the chocolate desert. We liked this place so much that we came back a second night to repeat it all over again. If you are traveling or live in Naples (Napoli) this is a place you MUST go too. We were shocked to find such a gem in this town known for crime but it really was the best meal we had our entire trip.

We almost walked by because there was no signage but had to wait to get in because like Americans we wanted to eat earlier and most Italians like to eat later at night. This place was your quintessential "hole in the wall" restaurant and boy did it live up to the recommendation. Language barrier be darned our hosts made sure that we had the full gamut of what they had to offer. The antipasti was so great I could've eaten plates of just that. The dishes that followed left me wanting more and more. The pasta was some of the best I've ever eaten - and my family is from and still lives in Italy. The buffalo mozzarella was some of the best cheese ever. The chocolate dessert made my night! GO HERE. EAT HERE. Be glad you did.
