Where to begin? We loved this place so much we went back a second time. I cannot say enough. It…read morebreaks my heart that such a gem is hidden in rundown Portici, where most will never get to experience it. Luigi, the owner(?), was the epitome of Italian hospitality! On our first visit, we arrived far too early for an Italian dinner (shortly after 7PM). We were tired after a long day and did not want to go later. It was immediately clear that as American tourists, we were an unusual sight. The menu did not have a word of English and it seemed most of the waiters did not speak much English. Since the restaurant was nearly empty that early, Luigi doted on us, sending us complimentary antipasti. We were delighted with the whole experience. We did not order a secondo that night, as we were not particularly hungry, but the gnocchi alla Sorrentina was phenomenal. With that memory fresh in our minds, we decided to return two nights later. This time we were eating on Italian time, and when we walked in around 9PM, the place was packed. Yet we had no trouble getting a table. Luigi recognized us immediately and welcomed us warmly. We didn't expect his attention since the place was so busy, but we were blown away by how much time he spent with us. When the power went out suddenly, the food kept coming out without major issues. Extremely professional. The personable service was the best part of this experience, but the food was wonderful, too. The bruschetta was fantastic and we very much enjoyed the bucatini alla Don Salvatore. To be honest, the misto di carne alla brace were not anything special (not bad, just a bit lacking in flavor) but when everything else was so special, we were not disappointed! And I haven't even mentioned the prices! We couldn't believe how inexpensive everything was. My only regret is not trying the pizza that was being made in a brick oven right inside the entrance. Portici is not much of a destination, so sadly, most people will miss this spot. But if you are traveling through on the Circumvesuviana train, it is worth a special stop at Portici via Libertà to eat here. The restaurant is only about half a kilometer from the train station, and if your time there is anything like ours, it will be unforgettable.

Great little place. The pizza was great. They sell by the 1/2 meter or meter. The one one on the…read morepicture is a meter with 1/2 margarita, 1/2 sausage and peppers. It's very large but the crust is thin. They were both delicious. As recommended in previous posts we also tried the fried ham and cheese, fried dough balls( that's not the technical name lol), arancini (fried rice balls) fried mashed potato (the oblong shaped fried item). All were great but especially the fried ham and cheese which is the only square fried item and hands down our favorite. It's definitely worth the trip, very authentic and totally a local favorite. First pizzas are sold by the meter. Either 50cm or a full meter. So you choose a base pizza (margherita, ...) and then you can add three toppings. We choose prosciutto, parmesan and arugula on a margharita base (total of 7 euros for 2 people). Omg that was a lot of pizza for this money, and it was served super quickly. Once you ordered, you can choose to take away or to setup your own table. If you stay, you can just take a disposable tablecloth and platics plates available at the counter. I would highly recommend you to stay: right after we took our order, customers kept flowing in the place. Quickly, the local got full of families waiting for their orders, children running around... which made the experience very authentic.
