After hiking Mount Mossilauke we needed a quick bite and stumbled upon Calamity Jane's. Friendly service with breakfast served all day plus lunch and dinner options. 3 egg omelette was fluffy, light and delicious and Moosey muffin was a large English muffin with bacon, egg and cheese. This is a small diner-like restaurant we spotted in the very small town of Warren, NH. We were up here snowmobiling and spied this place right from the trail. We parked our Ski-Doo's outside in the parking lot and came in to eat and take a break from the the cold. Once inside, the place was packed, all full of snowmobilers. They have a menu board with specials, which was mostly diner type fare which includes, burgers, meatloaf, soups, salads, sandwiches, and broasted fried chicken to name a few . The meals come with with a choice of hand cut fries, cole slaw, cottage cheese, pickled beets, soup, or salad. The service was efficient. it was a decent and relaxing meal. The sign's on the bathroom doors reads "Bucks" for the men and "Doe's" for the girl's room. A real county bumpkin of a place, eh? They do have a small bar and also karaoke at at night. While cycling from Montpelier to the Massachusetts border I traveled through the small, but charming town of Warren, NH. It seemed eerily empty for even the tiniest of communities, but I didn't want to judge, I just needed some calories to help me along my way. I saw a giant rocket in the town square and a small farm with miniature horses, but given that my friends and I often refer to another of our friends as "Calamity" it gave me a sense of comfort and allowed me to park at a bar stool in this diner. The breakfast was standard. I guess I expected more farmed product since I was passing through the heart of the New England farming industry, but alas there were not options of grass fed beef or homemade corned beef hash, no free range eggs, organic milk, or fresh fruit and vegetables. There was, however, some pretty good bread, which seemed local, but hardly substantial enough to carry the meal itself. read more

Based on Mattew's review, I looked for this place on Saturday, after a long day of bushwhack hiking nearby, so here's the summer perspective. I agree with Matthew on all points. It's all-American fare, I ordered the grilled Ruben , which came on a nice, thick-sliced bread with very fresh meat. Ordered a milkshake too. It was 4:30 pm, and only the locals were there, perhaps that's always the case. Very friendly waitress, clean and air-conditioned. Outside, there is an ice cream counter in operation, with a number of cars coming and going. The common was a nice place to walk off a couple calories and enjoy the sunny summer day. I know the historical society has very limited hours, but I wished it was open longer in the summer. I never get into any of these places, the timing is always wrong. The old railbed, converted to motorsports use was active with young kids on ATV's. It was also marked for snowmobile use. Go north to Glencliff where the appalachian trail meets and the trail becomes suitable for bikes, all the way to Haverhill. Grabbed some camp wood nearby (who can resist the price) to take back to the flatlands for a backyard barbeque fire. read more

This was a real find in our after-dark trip from the Kancamagus Highway to Rutland, Vt. (Thanks, Garmin, for listing it in my GPS.) It's homey with quite a few locals and waitress could not have been nicer. She and the kitchen staff were very accomodating to my friend's gluten sensitivity, offering to prepare her fish dish gf. My meatloaf was the best ever, and I'm not even a fan of meatloaf. The price was so low, I double checked to see if there was a mistake. My overseas friend loves the Americana sort of places and she loved Calamity Jane's (and even knew who she was!). This place is a winner for down-home cooking in a down-home place. read more

Love this place . I'm new in town and I found this place by mistake but what a blessing . The food is amazing the service was excellent . My favored part of eating there was on my way out , they have a table with different home made items like candles , soap and lotions made out of goats milk for a city girl this is heaven . My husband and I stopped at Calamity Jane's for lunch while snowmobiling last week. It's right on the trails so it's easy to get to. While motorcycling last year,we stumbled into a fair in Warren and decided to visit. While we didn't want the standard fair food, we saw Calamity Jane's across the street and went in. What an awesome blast from the past! The old furnishings, table ware, old items on display make it so very homey. The people were friendly and the food was so cheap but so good. Breakfast all day! We swore we would be back and we were. We didn't realize that they were about to close in ten minutes, but the guy taking the open flag in told us to go on in. He asked if we want drinks while we waited for the waitress and he brought me a huge hot mug of the best coffee! Perfect because it was a chilly day for riding. The food once again was so good, eggs cooked perfectly. They make you feel welcome and they are happy to see you. Friendly, homey, gives you a warm fuzzy.
