We stopped in for a light morning bite and after eating we ended up walking out with a box of six croissants to go, because there was no way we were leaving without more. The croissants are exceptional. Golden and flaky. And the fillings are where things get really special. We tried two but bought a variety, and each one has its own personality. We paired our croissants with a London Fog and a mocha, both solid. They also have fresh juices and water available, which is a nice touch. The cafe itself is clean, bright, and inviting. Parking had ample spots available. The staff were warm, friendly, and clearly take pride in what they serve and how they treat customers. It looks like they make custom cakes too. The hand-drawn logo alone tells you the level of artistry and care this place operates with. Highly recommend. Don't sleep on this place. read more

My fiancé and I are getting married later this year so we called around to do some cake tastings. She had very good reviews. $10/per for 4 or 5 slices of cake to try. The cakes were so balanced between a light and airy cake and wonderfully flavored, not too sweet, fillings and icings. I have sensitive teeth so the fact I ate 4 slices without any problem really was great for me. Just the right amount of sugar to let the flavors pop. We ended up ordering a 2 tier cake and 2 1/2 sheets of cake for $400. What I believed to be a steal for that much wedding cake. Excellent experience. Both times we taste tested and came back to place the deposit, I ordered a croissant, 1 biscoff and 1 tiramisu custard. The croissants are the best I've had. I first found out about Cakes by Katya back in 2021 through the Yelp Passport; at that time she was located in Lovejoy in Buffalo, which is quite far from where I live. I was SO excited when I heard she was moving to Wheatfield. The cafe is cute and welcoming with a mouthwatering display case and a handful of seating. There are several different types of croissants, cheesecake slices, cake slices, whole cakes and more! Since the move, I have been there 3, maybe 4 times and every time has been fantastic! I've had a cappuccino, a ham and brie croissant, a salmon & fresh dill croissant sandwich and Russian iced tea. The service has always been quick & friendly. The croissants were perfectly flaky. The Russian iced tea was unsweetened and floral tasting... It was perfectly satisfying. I definitely will be back to try many, many more items. read more

Super cute spot I have been wanting to check out! While the name suggests they def have cakes - they also have some delicious pastries for breakfast! We got the pistachio crossiant & the ham cheese crossiant along with chocolate chip cookies! The crossiants are the perfect mix of light fluffy and buttery! Actually the lemon raspberry is so addicting. I will definitely be back. My only advice for this business is maybe a little more friendly. Would have been nice to learn more about this new location and the background. I grabbed my own menu, flyer and card. But it was end of day so maybe she was just over it lol. It was a bomb of flavours. Interesting fact, Katya uses local honey. Her father is a beekeeper. How cool is that!? It's good to remember that biting into delicious walnuts or pistachios baklava. Absolutely delicious!! I had planned to try all the goodies I bought but I ate too much earlier and had to stare longingly at the beautiful box of gorgeous cake slices until my appetite finally returned!! But wow it was so worth the wait. I cut the three different slices of cakes into smaller slivers so that I could try them all. I would lay in traffic for more of the hazelnut Ferraro Rocca cake!!! If you love chocolate, hazelnut and amazing butter cream, that should be eaten at room temperature to allow the buttercream to soften, then you MUST RUN and get this cake. If I had any idea about the whole hazelnuts in there and the rich decadent flavors,I would have gotten a whole cake. Katya described the other two cakes beautifully the way only chefs can. But after the first look much less word I knew I was getting them. But in no way can I do them justice trying to tell you exactly what I selected except to say I remember hearing another chocolate buttercream and a salted Carmel buttercream. It matters basically not at all because they were absolutely delightful!!! The cupcakes were vanilla, strawberry and mocha. Coffee and chocolate are my number one but I have to say that strawberry and vanilla and the fun crunchy bits on top are really fun and tasty. I also had to try her pistachio baklava! Because somehow it didn't seem possible that she could make good baklava and buttercream too. But I was very wrong. They were delightful!! Perfectly stuffed and not dripping with too much syrup. Just the right balance. I bought brownies with her ganache on top and giant chocolate chip cookies. But I'm sorry I was stuffed and couldn't eat another bite!! I don't think you can make a bad choice at Katya's. So stop in or drive over its well worth the drive if you aren't around the corner because truly you won't be sorry. read more

Wow! Not only is this cake shop great but the owner Katya is so sweet. She used to make cakes from her home but now I think since April has now had this shop. While we were there someone was picking up a chocolate on chocolate (never too much chocolate) birthday cake. It looked amazing. On this visit we tried 3 different items. We got the brownie, chocolate cake, and 8 layer sour cream cake. They were all delicious! My weakness is brownies, had the perfect amount of chewiness and was my favorite. For anyone who's familiar with the neighborhood, her shop is located where the LaVerdad Cafe was until they got a new location down the street. Went by after grabbing lunch at a nearby spot and I was not disappointed! The cakes and treats all looked delicious and it was hard to make choices because I wanted to try everything, haha! Very impressed with Katya's. Coming from a girl who isn't big into sweets, that's saying something! It's more of a take out place, but there are counters along the window and a table up front of you wanted to enjoy your sweets there. There is street parking along Lovejoy or the side streets and there is also a lot across the street for the school. I've parked there more than once on weekends without a problem, but can't guarantee that will always be the case. If there is street parking, take it. The walls are lined with beautiful creations. I absolutely fell in love with the two underwater themed cakes and found myself wondering what I could buy a fancy cake for. I did go for a Yelp Elite event and received a piece of her sour cream cake for review, and was very pleased with it. It has a nice level of sweetness without being overwhelming, definitely my kind of cake! We also purchased two each of the vanilla crunch and strawberry crunch cupcakes. If you get these, make sure you take them out of the fridge for a bit before eating as they are just perfect at room temperature, the frosting melts in your mouth. Again, these aren't overly sweet which is right up my alley. The crunch stood up really nicely this morning when we had them for breakfast (hey, it's my Birthday, so it's totally allowed). I was really surprised that it was only $11 for all four. They are normal size cupcakes, not the gargantuan sizes you see some places, but that is what I would prefer. I found the prices more than reasonable. Besides cupcakes there were the obvious cakes as well as baklava, cookies and brownies. Definitely a great place to indulge your sweet tooth! The storefront is new for the owner and on top of making tasty treats, she was so nice! I highly recommend heading there for sweets and supporting this local small business. read more

We decided to stop into Cakes by Katya to grab some dessert after a great bbq lunch at La Verdad just a couple blocks down on Lovejoy. The bakery has a couple steps to get into so be aware of that if you've got any mobility concerns. There is a high table with 4 chairs but I think that's probably more for tastings than actually eating in. There is an awesome display of Katya's gorgeous creations adorning two walls of the shop. The cakes are beautiful works of art and I can see why she is crazy busy these days. If I were needing a jaw-dropping cake for a special event this is definitely the place I'd come to. But we were after dessert and were not disappointed. There is a display case filled with tempting cupcakes and slices. There were also cookies, brownies and baklava on offer. We decided to take a slice of the ferrero rocher chocolate cake home. It was perfect! Moist chocolate cake with delicate hazelnut cream filling and topped with the most perfectly smooth chocolate hazelnut ganache. One slice was plenty enough for the two of us but that's only because Himself is generous enough to let me have the ferrero rocher bonbon all to my lonesome. Cakes by Katya is definitely worth a visit if you're looking to impress with a very special cake or just grab a delectable treat for dessert. But the selections are so eye appealing, I doubt you walk away without finding something you like. Just to name a few you have baklava, brownies, cheesecake (slices), German chocolate cake (slices), and cookies. I purchased a dozen cupcakes, and a slice of German chocolate cake. Now home, it's finally time to taste these beautiful looking desserts. I will make this very simple by saying, OMG!!! Every single dessert I tasted was amazing, the cupcakes was moist and the frosting was perfect. I was amazed to see a real strawberry piece, inside my strawberry crunch cupcake. The German chocolate cake, was so moist and rich with chocolate. I have to mention, that the desserts were not overly sweet. I never had desserts, that had the sugar ratio just right until now. We signed up for the Taste the world event and didn't realize how close this bakery is!!! Located in the heart of Lovejoy - I am grateful that I can walk to bakery because I need to work off the calories I no doubt will indulge in when I get there. I feel bad because the eastern European layered sweet sour cream cake that she made for the Tate the world is event didn't even survive for photos. It was so very delicious. It wasn't overly sweet and it had a hint of coconut in the cream. My husband doesn't like sweet frosting things and even though there were layers of frosting in it - He loved it!! The bakery itself is filled with all sorts of her cake creations so you can experience the artwork that is her cakes. There is even a table where you can eat in and enjoy some of the baked goods from her case. I did snitch a bite of the baklava which is one of our favorite desserts. It too wasn't overly sweet nor sticky like baklava can sometimes be, but it did have the gooeyness one expects from a good baklava. She did have two other kinds (Walnut and pecan).
