Cake Fiction was the one vendor we used from a recommendations list our wedding venue gave to us. I am SO glad we did. Their barn itself is also super cute, just going up for the cake tasting session was magical in itself. Picking just 3 flavors to sample from their list of cake combinations was so hard, which was a good thing! You are allowed to have a different flavor for each layer of cake at no additional cost, so we had fun with those. We picked the olive oil cake with passion fruit cream, the walnut almond pound cake with raspberry mousse, and the lemon cake with orange flower blossom cream. Well, my husband talks about that passion fruit cream more than any other part of our wedding (I try not to be too upset about that), it was that amazing! My favorite flavor was the raspberry mousse, and I keep hearing a ton of compliments on that flavor in particular from our guests. The only critique I would give to Cake Fiction is that they didn't give the venue a list of the flavors so nobody knew what each layer was and my husband and I had picked the flavors months before and couldn't remember either. I also appreciate how up-front Cake Fiction was with their pricing, which is listed online on their website to give you an idea of an estimate for your cake. We ended up going with a naked cake with just buttercream frosting on the outside which saved us a bit of money, and it looked so beautiful after our florist put a couple of flowers on it for us and it really fit in well with the theme of our barn venue. I made my own cake toppers out of clay and they were a little heavy so I was worried about them on top possibly sinking into the cake, but the cake was sturdy and the topper sat up there proudly! And finally, Paula is also the sweetest lady ever and you can tell she really has a passion for her work. It's lovely that we have such a great wedding cake baker in New Jersey. Now if only they would open a tiny bakery so that we can get two cupcakes with our flavors next year for our anniversary. :) read more

Paula and Simon created an absolutely amazing 70th birthday cake for my father in law who was in the air force during the Vietnam War. The cake was in the shape of a phantom f4 jet and it was absolutely perfect. The attention to detail was impeccable!! My father in law thought it was a plastic model because it was made so well!! My wife was one of those moms that desperately did not want a baby shower. I wanted one and offered to take the spotlight, but no go. Paula made a 4 tiered masterpiece for my daughter's Bat Mitzvah that not only looked incredible but tasted as good as it looked! My experience with Paula was exceptional! We picked a sampling of cakes and fillings from a large selection of offerings and had a tasting at her beatifully renovated and meticulously kept barn. It was difficult to choose what cake/filling to get because they were all so delicious but we went with the pound cake with dulce de leche and red velvet with vanilla buttercream (2 tiers of each). Paula spent time with us to understand the design we wanted for the cake. The cake was a highlight of the evening and I received many complements about how beautiful and delicious it was! AMAZING is all my guests could say when the cake Paula made for my wife's 50th birthday was brought in. I told Paula I wanted a wine bottle cake with a custom label and got it all. The cake looked great and tasted even better. The "cork" cupcakes also were a hit. I sent a picture to a friend who could not be at the party and he asked me where I got the cool bottle. Mere words do not do justice to the groom's cake in the shape of an acoustic guitar that Paula made for my son's wedding rehearsal dinner, so I will attach a picture of it if I can. After sending Paula a picture of my son's guitar, she made an exact duplicate of it and everything was edible. We hated cutting into it but it turned out to be amazingly delicious! My son's favorite flavor combination is chocolate and peanut butter, and even though it's not one of her regular fillings, Paula was willing to make it for us. I ordered 3 cakes from Paula. The first one was a 3-tiered cake with a pharmacy theme for my graduation party. The second cake was a replica of a Louis Vuitton handbag with accessories coming out of it (even a U.S. Passport!) for my mom's 50th birthday. And the third cake was a 3-tiered cake with a couple holding hands on top for my brother and sister-in-law's engagement party. My Dad's 80th birthday cake (slot machine) was a huge hit with everyone.
