I was searching for colors for a cake featuring the mountainous backdrop of Denver. Was able to snag blues, grays, purples to mix for my scene. Alarmed to see the staff not wearing proper face masks. One person had a mask that didn't cover her her nose AND mouth so her mouth was hanging out the bottom and she kept taking it off inside. Another employee's was super loose and kept falling down so her nose was hanging out. Their stock was wonderful but I'd be wary about coming back her during the pandemic unless they change their practices. Happy to change my rating if they commit to demonstrating that they're taking the pandemic more seriously. read more

Can always find anything I need cake wise here in this store. It's a bit of a drive for me, but I find it worth it if I really need something that day and don't want to wait for Amazon to ship it. omg this is cake baking heaven. I love to bake cupcakes as a hobby and was recently offered my first paying gig for a bridal shower. I certainly can't show up with my cupcakes in a used donut box like I usually do. Luckily I found this place and they had many options for carrying cases - many sizes, both plastic and cardboard. They also have a great selection of colored cupcake liners. Gray was requested and I couldn't find them anywhere - not even amazon. Of course they had them at Cake Crafts. I am a noob when it comes to baking, but have been obsessed with cake pops since I found out about them in October. I decided to try making my own for our Thanksgiving dinner of 18....it was a huge fail. It was fun but I knew I needed different tools/techniques/hints to make what was in my mind. The only win was my hubbie picking up these sucker sticks from this store. I decided to check it out after him telling me about the oodles of money he's worried about losing! I walked in like a deer in headlights, I had no idea what to do/ask. I knew what I wanted to make but didn't know what I would need. The ladies (there are a few I see a lot, and some new people each time I go in) are EXTREMELY knowledgeable and are patient and creative. I have been in there another dozen times (AT LEAST!) in the past 7 months and they have helped me so much that I am now selling my pops. They have awesome ideas to problem-solve things I can't find or figure out, and each person has been a wonderful help. They are not pushy and they truly are helpful. I still find new things each time I'm in the store and one of the last few times, I happened to notice a plaque with pictures of one of the gals on a Food Network Challenge! They really know their stuff and they seem to hire people of all ages that are knowledgeable or know which person to ask for the right answers. I tell anyone who asks me where to get my goods where to go- Cake Crafts! It's a small shop that has opened a huge world for me! read more

When I need anything related to cakes this is where I head. I needed boxes and fondant and gum paste and cutters and colors and all sorts of stuff for a wedding this summer. I found the best fondant I have ever used. The Massa Grischuna (sp?) from Albert Uster. I really wanted to buy some when I first spotted it but it was in a $100 + package and I didn't need that much. I mentioned to them that it looked nice and they offered me a taste as well as letting me know they sell it by weight. You don't have to buy a whole container. SOLD! The bride's mom was very apprehensive about the fondant on the cake because she had heard it was disgusting. She said she loved the cake. (Plus it helps to only cover it with a very thin layer). The owner was very nice and after learning that I was making pies for the wedding also gave me a few packages of apple filling. I didn't use them, but still, it was so generous and thoughtful of him to do that. It is nice to find a store with just about everything you could possibly be looking for and the staff that actually knows about all of it. I am looking forward to taking some of their classes as well to improve my decorating skills. read more

I've been shopping at cake crafts for a couple years. I own a dog treat company here in Denver. As a dog bakery owner, we use cookie cutters, cake boxes, airbrush guns, paint brushes, glitter spray, and many other things found at cake crafts. I purchased some edible prints, for an event for a vet clinic and a pet market. I loved the prints and worked very well as described. The reason for the 3 star review is... since the new owners showed up I love the new additions to the store. But, I feel uncomfortable calling or even stopping in because of out of pocket comments. I called regarding the edible prints and Danielle although helpful, was very derogatory toward me. Treating me like a child over the phone. Asking me "do you understand what I'm saying?" I asked a simple question and a answer was just fine. But followed by that comment felt very condescending. I walked in to pick up the edible images, I walk in the door, come down the stairs, stand in line and I'm met by an employee with... "you look on a mission, what can I do for you?" Now, that seems so innocent. But let's describe what "on a mission" means. acting a determined way or focused in doing something that he/she is oblivious to anything else around him/her. So once again, I'm being judged for just being. So if I ask a question and I met back with a very terrible habit and crummy conversation. Or, blatant judgement to my face of how I appear to be upon walking in. Feels a little off putting and honestly, as a woman and person of color. I will not smile on command, I will not allow me asking a question to be turned into judgement. Even when I go to check out, the way they say my business name.. it's so condescending. It makes me feel "what are YOU doing here". Well, I suggest Danielle to Google the pet treat market. Cause it's boomin and treats are more gourmet and human like than ever. And maybe your new cake craft store, especially in a recession, should be more catering to the pet treat makers. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR CLASS! When you sign up they don't tell you to park in some dark alley. The instructor will admonish you if you're late. Instructor spent most of her time on her cell phone during class. They will cancel a class last minute and post a sign on the back door. The stuff inside the store, however, is awesome. I went here looking for fondant plungers. They have tons of stuff but the prices were severely inflated. They wanted $22.00 for the identical plungers I found on amazon for $13.00. If I absolutely needed something I didn't have time to order online, I'd buy from them; otherwise probably not. read more

My wife and I drove all the way from the north east corner of Aurora today and this place was worth the drive. Not only did they have things I didn't even know existed for cake decorating, but the prices were also very reasonable. From overhearing the staff talking while I was there, if the vast selection is missing something then they can order it for you. If all of this was not enough, the employees were the most friendly I have seen. I will never go to a generic craft store for cake supplies again. read more

I feel so fortunate that we have a shop like this in Denver. I decorate cakes occasionally but do mostly sugar cookie work, and Cake Crafts is where I go to find the best cookie cutters, icing colors, and sanding sugars. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly; they provide a level of service you most certainly won't find at big-box craft stores. Also, I LOVE the Fat Daddio's line of cake pans they carry... That was fun and interesting. I found many things that I had no idea that i needed. This is a small retail space, but boy does it fit in everything imaginable. From cookie cutters to an amazing case of edible decor that you should not miss. Everything is ultra organized, and every inch of space is packed with goodies for the baker. There were things I thought to be on the expensive side, by I admit, those were not tools relevant to me, so I cannot account for their value. if you bake even one cake per year, and are in the area, it would really be beneficial to visit. read more

I would say four stars for the retail part of the store. Huge selection of anything and everything you could ever need to make amazing cakes, candies, and desserts but definitely way pricier than online. Two stars for the class I attended. It was very basic information for the cost. It would have been better for kids or someone with little to no experience making chocolate treats. Also, I was a little grossed out watching people use their hands to pick off pieces of fondant and caramel and digging around the bags of nuts, pretzels, and other items used to make the chocolates. It should be set up a little better so that isn't something to worry about. I heard the teacher ask one student to please use a utensil instead of her fingers to scoop out some of the peanut butter filling but I saw several other students doing the same thing. Also heard the teacher make a comment to someone about the amount of something she was taking back to her work station. For $69, we should be able to use as many sprinkles or as much filling as we want. We got to take home everything we made, but again, many students were using their hands to portion out supplies and I didn't see anyone wash their hands prior to class so I won't be eating the items I made. read more

I purchased two spots for a chocolate making class online as a Christmas present for my sister and brother in law. I gave them the gift and they were very excited to attend the class. 36 hours before the class, one of the owners, Judy, emailed saying we needed to purchase all of our own supplies for the class. The supply list said: Plastic Mat -- A requirement for classes at Cake Crafts, and may be purchased before class 1 or 2 Chocolate Molds (not hard candy), preferably Valentine's Chocolate Dipping Tools 2 - 3 Squeeze Bottles for Chocolate (to put into molds) Small Soft Paint Brushes Luster Dusts and Disco Dusts, if you have any Parchment or Waxed Paper Paper Towels Damp Cloth Ziplock Bags Box to take home your chocolates Because of the short notice and the fact that my sister and I did not have these tools at home, I called on Friday to get a refund for the class. I spoke to a young man named Paul who told me that he could not give me a refund but that he would give me $90 of store credit instead, since that is what I paid for the class. This class was supposed to a fun experience, but my sister is not an avid baker and did not need store credit. He also told me I could use the money toward another class but added that all classes require you to bring your own supplies. I asked to speak to a manager and Paul told me that the manager was busy and wouldn't be able to talk to me until 1pm on Saturday, which was the exact time the class started. I told Paul that I was very upset and would be writing a review. He said that was fine. I called back on Saturday and spoke to a very helpful manager named John Valdez. John was so understanding and apologized for Paul's behavior. He said that the owner would call me back. I do appreciated John's help, as this was not what I was used to when dealing with this company. I never heard from the owner. I called back Saturday afternoon around 3 and got a hold of John, the owner. The first thing he told me was that he'd like to know where I work so that he can write a complaint about me. I was appalled! I explained to John that I would like a refund for the class. He told me that there was a 10 day cancellation policy, which I had missed. I explained to him that because I received the supply list so late, I did not know that I would need to cancel within the 10 days, as he never gave us the opportunity. He told me his wife, Judy, had surgery and that it was my responsibility to call and see if there was a supply list for the class. Again, I explained to him that it was his business and, therefore, his responsibly. John finally agreed to give me a refund but demanded that I come into the store to get it and hung up the phone. I did visit the store and worked with a young woman to get my refund. Unfortunately, she charged my card another $90 before the refund, but both refunds did come through. I also doubled checked all of the classes listed online and there was not anything that explained the customer would have to provide his/her own supplies. Do not support this local business! The owner is not customer-oriented, and, frankly, a nightmare to deal with! read more

I was in CO over Christmas and needing some things to help with cookie baking. I AM A HORRIBLE BAKER! I know nothing. A friend took me to Cake Crafts. The owner, Judy was amazing. She took me all around the store and pointed out what I NEEDED. She made sure what I bought made sense for a novice. While I was there, I listened to hear helping customers who are IN the business. This woman KNOWS her stuff because the pros kept asking her advice. I wish I lived closer - I might just go and take decorating lessons. THEY even have a room and hold classes at the store!
