They had a couple of gluten free cookies of some sort, not much to satisfy anyone trying to avoid eggs or dairy. This was my first afternoon tea experience, and I absolutely loved it! The interior is super cute and very warm and inviting. Steph served us, and she was kind, friendly, and attentive to us. The masala chai and jasmine green tea were delicious, and we were offered sugar cubes and oat milk with it. The assortment of sweet treats and savory bites were amazing. So I purchased a 4inch UVA cake for my son. Let me start with the positive. I got the Golden Vanilla with Buttercream and it is absolutely delicious. I'm not an expert baker but (I think) this is French buttercream which I love. The vanilla cake had a amazing vanilla taste and while I do see why some would consider it dry, I find this true of most vanilla cakes unless the bakery brushes on simple syrup and I think it makes it too sweet. So cake and cake quality are 5/5 so why the 4/5? 2 reasons: price. For the 4 inch cake which says it feeds 2-3, for me I think this feeds 2 normal people. So that is 20 dollars per serving. I also paid extra for it to say Happy Birthday Anthony and from the picture you can see it doesn't. I assume it because it couldn't fit (it is such a small cake) but I didn't get a call to discuss if I still wanted the cancel the writing or if I was okay with substitution. I would have declined it since I didn't like it and just asked for the logo that was included. If it was free or the cake itself wasn't 40 dollars, again, I wouldn't have an issue but with what I'm paying for cake and paying extra for the writing, it was disappointing. read more

Yes, that is subjective, just like everything in life pretty much about food. Your cake was as dry as the dessert. Plus ignoring customers who are standing there waiting to be served doesn't make you look good. We saw a person come, wait for a minute or two and leave, all without being greeted or served. The storefront is super cute, and I love how the cakes are displayed and that they are in slice form. We ordered the $24 5 slice graduation deal, and got the Strawberry Belle, Rainbow Carrot, Golden Vanilla, Classic Chocolate, and Wahoo Stout. The lady who put together our cake slices was very friendly and accommodating. While all of the slices had good flavor, the cakes were all very dry. The only one that I really liked was the Strawberry Belle, which was pretty moist because it was soaked with some type of syrup, but parts of the cake that weren't soaked were dry. The Classic Chocolate was probably moister than the other three, but was still on the dry side, and the rest of the cakes were super dry, with the Golden Vanilla being the driest. I thought the frostings themselves tasted good for all the cakes. I was debating whether to give this place 3 or 4 stars, but ultimately decided on 4 stars because although the cakes were dry, I liked the flavors and how the slices were presented, and the shop was quite cute. I wouldn't be opposed to trying this place again in the future to see if it was just an off day, but it isn't a place I feel inclined to come back to. read more

Just wanted to share about my order that I received. Cake is my favorite dessert. I was expecting big things when I found them on Tik Toc and I so wanted to lov the product. Sadly I didn't. I followed the instructions for defrost and thought The box was nice and the pieces looked great. However, the cake was DRY for all but The chocolate piece which was awesome. The rest of The samples had so little buttercream it was barely there. I expect a generous amount of buttercream when spending $150.00(the cake sampler). I know the owners have been making cakes for a bit, but the physical space is an awesome place to visit, whether you're commissioning a cake for a special occasion or simply a fan of sweet treats! Everything we had was delicious, and we had EIGHT pieces of cake. The 8-cake flight is a steal, with 8 full slices for $40. Our favorites were the Seasonal Citrus (lemon and blueberry), the carrot cake, and the limited-time Lady Grey! Seriously - you have to go in this Spring to try that one. The tea-flavored cake pairs perfectly with lavendar/lemon filling and buttercream frosting. I would eat this cake every day if I could. And the carrot is a classic, updated with delicious salted caramel frosting. But Cake Bloom is not just a cake bar, it's a "bubbles bar" as well. There were so many champagne options we were a bit overwhelmed, but the staff was very helpful and assisted us in choosing an excellent bottle for a reasonable price. Came here from Richmond for afternoon tea with a girlfriend and it was well worth the drive. They only do afternoon tea on specific weekends but this experience has prompted me to find a date to return to try their cake and wine pairings. The tea snacks were so delightful and I especially loved this experimental grasshopper tart that is not currently on their menu but I hope will be added after today. They were having graduation special where we could pick 5 slices for $24. Reasonable enough. The cake slices are very nicely and cleanly cut and reminds me of artisan soap, appearance wise.. The true test is flavor, and my family of four didn't even finish it. The best cake was the carrot (4/5), followed by the strawberry shortcake (3.5/5). Those are the only ones I took more than one bite of. The chocolate, stout, and the vanilla cakes were very dry (2/5 at best, especially the stout and vanilla). Perhaps it was because it was later in the day, but to be frank it tasted days old. I also think the frosting to cake ratio was very skimpy. Parking was a little bit of a challenge as it is on a busy road. We parked across the street at the Amtrak station, it was confusing if we were able to park there at all though. I would only return if I were with a group who wanted to do drink pairings. I have not had great luck finding solid dessert places in Charlottesville so my hunt continues. read more

A very cute little shop between UVA grounds and downtown. Not ideal for larger parties unless you go later in the day. We split a cake platter amongst 5 people which was more than enough. I enjoyed the one pictured on the very left the most, which had bits of dried flowers dispersed throughout the cake similar to a funfetti cake but for adults. It both looked and tasted nice. Maybe it's sacrilegious to mention other social media forms on Yelp but we heard about Cake Bloom from a viral TikTok video and decided we had to come here. My friend had her bachelorette in Charlottesville and this is the first place we went. They don't have a ton of seating but we did manage to snag a seating area for our group in the back. We had the following cake: - Very Cranberry-Almond featuring almond layers with a tart cranberry jam and tang cranberry cream. It was tasty and not sugary but flavorful. - Ginger Cookies'n'Cream with gingery cookie crumble cream cheese and our rich vanilla-creme fraiche cake and was paired with Moscato wine. - Chocolate-Hazelnut featuring haz-chocolate ganache, frangelico mascarpone, and hazelnut praline. Perfect for a girls adult tea party! On Sundays they run a special: buy a bubbly drink ($10-14), get a slice of cake for free. We were the only table there that day so we snagged the cute corner cushion spot. I got a drink with vermouth and Prosecco- it was dainty and delish. Incredible cake shop located in downtown Cville!! Came in with some friends and was impressed by the cake, drinks, service, and atmosphere! We walked in and were immediately welcomed by the staff. We decided on the cake sampler to try a few of their specialities: fig, wahoo stout, lemon, apple spice, and floral funfetti. We absolutely loved each of these flavors and cleaned our plates. I fell in love with Cake Bloom before the brick-and-mortar shop opened and now that it's here, I'm even more head over heels. Located on West Main St, it's an easy walk from pretty much anywhere in the downtown area. The new site is a cake and bubbles bar, offering fresh florals, cakes by the slice (flavors rotate), cake parfaits, and fun eats like cheese boards and caviar. Say whaaat?! In case you wondered if heaven was real, now ya know. You may even be lucky enough to snag a whole cake on-site (limited availability). If you want a whole cake, you can pre-order online. Earlier this year, I was fortunate to have two special people in my life order two gorgeous cakes from Cake Bloom for my birthday. Not only were they stunning to look at, they were DELICIOUS! One was a current seasonal offering listed on their website and the other was uniquely created by my partner and exquisitely executed by Susan (owner/baker/magic maker). See my photos for details. Not pictured, is the rainbow carrot cake that I've tried a few times by the slice. It is THE BEST carrot cake I've had. For sure a must try! Cakebloom caught my eye one day while walking down west Main Street. It's an adorable store front, with fresh cakes, florals and champagne. After speaking to some of the employees, they agreed to let me come behind the bar and take some videos and talk to them about the business. It was started by a couple who moved from California to Charlottesville right before the pandemic. The founder and baker, Susan, offers an assortment of cakes with floral arrangements. I got the carrot cake ($5.50) which was so well balanced and not overly sweet. The cream cheese frosting was delicious and the ratio of frosting to cake was perfect for me. My friend got a layered trifle with fruit and edible flowers, it had a wonderful lemon curd which provided acid to the decadent dessert. The drink options were well sourced and the prices ranged from $9-$20 a glass. Cakebloom offers cakes for orders and uses a minimalist design that is simple and classic. I loved their offering of a baby cake, just adorable. I hope you find time to stop by and try their offerings, it's a new spot that just opened a little over a month ago. Oh, how lucky we are to have a specialty cake shop such as Cake Bloom right here in Cville! I attended their Birds and Bubbles event last week and I hope they continue to host these types of events. Reservations were required and were worth it since we were greeted immediately and sat at the window seats. Fun to people watch since there was a bubble machine set up outside and the locals and tourists were having fun with it dancing around as they walked by! Ambiance - amazing, warmly lite and tall ceilings with a retail shop in the front area, then a cake and cookie glass display along with a sit top bar and nice tables to sit at on the left. Service - spectacular! Always a friendly smile and ready to help. This shop is owned by two sisters and you can feel the love in every bite. Cake - they utilize as many local ingredients as possible in every cake and incorporate local fruits and edible flowers. Your next celebration would be the talk of the town if you pre-ordered one of their cakes! My favorite of the Fall flavor launch was the Wahoo stout cake - OMG! Sparkling wine - they have a great collection of local and non local wines and sparkling wines on display to but a bottle to go home with.
