The station of Cais do Sodré is the terminus of the railway line to the beaches and coastal resorts of Sintra and Cascais.
The station was rebuilt in 1928 in a beautiful Art Deco style, to the designs of Porfírio Pardal Monteiro, and the exterior is still magnificent. Sadly, the rebuilding in 1998, which incorporated the metro station, means the interior is in a brutalist style. This comes as something of a shock on entering, particularly as it could all do with a thorough clean.
As well as the platforms, ticket office and ticket machines, the interior has a number of shops, including a supermarket and cafe. As well as the metro, the station provides an interchange with the ferry terminal. read more
