SAME REVIEW I PLACED ON GOOGLE I've been to Cagney's many times in the last 4 years. I go in there and mind my own business, drink a few beers and read books or newspapers at the bar. I'm an old white guy so I know this wasn't race related as some of the complaints expressed. Well, I sat down at the bar and the tall muscular dude with the tattoos behind the bar approaches me, and he's looking at me, and I just assumed he wanted to know what I wanted to drink. I just asked for a draft beer. He said well I'm not the server but she'll be along shortly. I said, sorry, you were looking at me so I figured you wanted to know what I wanted. He then said, "no, I was more interested in what you have in your bag." I had a small white Walmart type grocery bag sitting on the bar. I told him I just had reading materials in the bag. It's the same type bag I bring in there nearly every week when I come in there to drink and read. In my bag I bring reading materials, a spare batt and charge cord for my tablet, and a case of pens and highlighters, and cigars. I don't know if he thought I was bringing a bomb in there or what, but that really pissed me off. I noticed there were women at the bar who had purses on the bar, so was he concerned about the contents of their purses? No. So he's looking at me and telling me he's wondering what's in my little white grocery bag. I came in there many times before with same small ass bag doing the same routine at the bar: peacefully smoking a cigar, drinking a few beers for an hour or two, reading, and leaving. I don't know what I did to semi-trigger this dude to suddenly direct his attention on me and my bag as soon as I sat down as if I were a criminal or a terrorist, but fine, I'll find another bar, simple enough to fix. read more

Went there for the first time a few weeks ago. Kinda a biker bar, but people were super nice. It is in Davie so it was kinda honky tonk,western. But food was okay and people treated you very well. it is a fun place and has good rock bands. Wish the bands started at 9:00 instead of 9:30, would definitely go back with the right band playing that I enjoy hearing. read more

Went there with my boyfriend who walks with a limp, because he was in a bad crash, so he has a severe limp when walking. We went inside ordered a drink, he went to restroom, and I seen bouncer talking to him, they were Kicking him out thinking he was drunk, said he was walking funny.... Mind you he is considered a handicap, has metal hip, and metal plate in his knee! I argued with bouncer and was very upset, because we literally just walked in door and were getting kicked out because of the way he was walking... They told me nope he has to leave.. that is discrimination! Will never recommend this place to anyone because they kicked out a handicapped person because he can't walk straight! Very disrespectful and they discriminate against people with a disability! They may be hearing from my lawyer very soon. read more

If I could rate no stars I would. Had a bartender,idk his name younger dude with tattoos, stole $5 from me. I tipped him $5 in cash and paid for my drinks with a card. He threw away the receipt I wrote on and used the empty receipt to write another $5 tip on and then said he would send it back to my card and never did! Absolutely disgusting! If I could give Zero stars I would... We came here on Saturday 08/10/24 we ordered an appetizer a couple of burgers and other things on the menu and drinks, and our food took forever to come out. I feel like the waitress forgot to put our order in because she was so busy talking to everyone and came back to the table and said it would be another 15 minutes I asked about the appetizer and she said it would all come together I was completely dumbfounded. We waited 15 minutes before our food came out the appetizer was great my burger was so burnt you couldn't even bite down on it. super smokey also just all around not a great place. read more

This is a racist bar. I've heard multiple claim they are racist but from my own experience they have dress codes that were enforcers against me but when a white person walked past with a similar outfit they made excuses. I had jeans with a rip which is against the bar code but a white person walked past with more rips in their jeans and they made an excuse for it. read more

We came in on a Monday evening, we wanted to avoid the weekend crowd and try a few items from the menu. Both bartenders were very attentive once we were seated. We started with a couple drinks, and appetizers: Cagneys combo Chicken wings Bowl of potato soup The combo alone was more than enough for a group, cooked to our expectations and prompt. Wings were also good, nothing special but as expected. The soup however was very hearty, a meal in itself. For our entrees we selected 2 burgers: Patty melt w/Cajun fries Pepper Jack burger w/wedges Our burgers were made exactly how we asked, and the flavor was definitely amazing. All things considered, I would definitely recommend. Although I'm sure the weekend crowd would be different. read more

If I could give a half star or even no stars to leave this review I would, however I can't, but I digress. Myself, my wife and our friends have been to this establishment a handful of times, which in most cases, have been turned away for some particular dress code that they only have a tendency to enforce as we come through the door. Often, this "dress code" is enforced by a stocky bouncer, Caucasian male, an average to chunky build, around 5'8 or 5'9 in height, I believe brown hair, as he often where's a baseball cap, and a stable. The first time we were turned away, we were refused entry, do to my friend having on a sweat suit, and were told that the dress code prohibits this, however directly behind the bouncer are at least 3 different people, male, wearing sweat suits, Adidas, Nike, and a Jordan sweat suit, I literally pointed this out, just for him to be stumped in his response, yet stated, "I don't know whi let them in" yet did absolutely nothing to kick them out. The second time, same guy, refused entry to us do to something my wife and my friends girlfriend was wearing, yet alot of women were wearing similar things wasn't turned away. This third and final time, once again, same guy, refused our entry based on, myself wearing ripped jeans, yet stated for women it was ok, but for men it is prohibited, said that I could not be allowed in with holes in my jeans, but here's the kicker, underneath the rips in my jeans, is a different material/fabric, you can not in any way form or fashion see my skin, but at this point I'm fed up and I leave out. My wife stays to look around to see if there had been any other men granted access with ripped jeans, and sure enough they had been, I'm not one for a race angle, nor one to pull the "race card," as a navy veteran I've been around all ethnicities and nationalities, and we saw each other as brothers and sisters, but this establishment, I feel that I can without a shadow of a doubt, is in a way racist towards black people (also, the majority of their patrons are Caucasian) for the majority times we've tried to enter there, it was always something new and different to deny access, apart from that, we don't really see ourselves going back in the foreseeable future. read more

Online, it seemed like a great place to grab a nice lunch. Menu items seemed good. But then the sign on the door indicating that smoking is still permitted inside should have been enough to decide not to even try it... I opened the first of two doors to go in and was completely enveloped in tired, old, stale smoke so strong it hit me like a brick. Without even touching the second door, we turned right around and left. Super disappointing. Sadly, I won't ever know how their food actually tastes, because there is no way I'm going back. read more

The drinks were fine, bartender was good. The short waitress, I believe her name was Annie, was horrible, very rude. There was some guy sitting at the bar making inappropriate remarks to the staff and customers. I don't know if he worked there, but definitely gave off pervert vibes. RACIST BAR ALERT!!! 3 different occasions my husband and I have came to Cagneys with our friend who is colored...EVERY SINGLE TIME we have had to leave because of some stupid reason or another...First time they claimed he looked like some other black guy who ran up a tab 2 nights in a row, took his ID and work ID and would not return it to him but kept asking him to leave, needless to say we had to involve the police and after their assistance we were allowed in but we did not want to spend our money there. Second time they claimed our friend was not dressed appropriately, I did not realize you couldnt wear sweats to a bar/pub??? Third time was tonight months later and they claimed his jeans were too baggy? But they let in all our other white friends who were wearing the same style jeans if not looser... read more

The food is decent and it's a fun environment. Seems like a place for college students. Although this place isn't for everyone. They allow smoking indoors so be prepared to smell like trash afterwards. The drinks were watered down a lot! I normally get buzzed from two or three drinks.... ended up drinking 13 (mostly shots) just to feel partially tipsy. I barely drink, so I definitely know my tolerance isn't high. My absolutely first review. Not sure why, but the other reviews motivated me to offer another opinion. I like this bar. i would probably give it a 3.75 rating, but that rounds to 4. I've been to it several times, and I'll be back. I'm probably one of the more conservative patrons, not a party animal, but I simply wouldn't describe this bar the way several others have. Maybe they go later on weekend nights, when things get heavier after the alcohol kicks in. I suspect so, since there is a mention of "wish there was a band". That's just not what this place is to me, and I''m glad. I usually go early Friday evenings after work, or mid to late afternoon for a beer and a bite on a weekend. During these times of day, the crowd has consistently been of pretty diverse range of ages. I see "mature" local couples of baby-boomer era that are there to socialize, have some beers, and get some fairly good food. Mixed in are late 20's and 30-ish guys just chilling out. I'll admit, not enough sweet, unattached females if you're into "sport gazing", but hey, the times I went were not prime time for that hobby anyway, and the waitresses were always cute, attentive, and made me feel welcome. More specifically on the good and not so good: The bar is a classic old high-ceiling, laid back, historic looking place. I love it for that. good TV viewing all around, nice elevated outside deck looking over the town lake for nicer weather. The food has always been fast, good, and hot. Not a huge number of choices, but what's there is good. Much better than most bar food, not quite a full blown restaurant in my opinion. I've had a really good Reuben, I love the 'Arlington' chicken sandwich, the fries are always good, hot, and I like them more that I wish I did -- I often can't finish my sandwich as a result. Good beer choices and always plenty cold. It is smoky. I don't smoke. I don't like smoking. They could do a little better on smoke-eaters to clear the air, but it doesn't keep me from going. In no way would I categorize this place as 'very noisy'. It's on the slightly high side of typical, but by no means annoying. I've never heard the 'nothing but metal' music when I have gone. Maybe a little on the 'heavy' side of rock, and some of it won't be found in my collection, but it's "up" and fine with me. This bar/limited restaurant is what it is, if I want something different I'll go elsewhere and I'm happy to be able to make that choice. I suggest you give it a try and take your own crowd with you, making the atmosphere more like you want it to be as a result. I guess I understand the wish that there was a 'live band' local bar in your neighborhood, but you obviously know such a place already where you can go when you want to find just that. I love the food and beer selection but absolutely despise that smoking is allowed, (I feel like people go here exclusively to smoke) you have to plan on bathing and doing laundry after leaving Cagney's. The experience continues. Once again, I give their beer selection 4 stars-- truly top notch, and it is to be applauded. Additionally, the staff are courteous and fairly attentive. But. Good. Lord. CHANGE THE MUSIC. I don't understand why Hobart bars feel the need to transform themselves into "clubs". I felt like I was in Cancun the last time I was there-- only when I step outside, whoops---- still in Hobart. Cagney's would do better, I humbly believe, to use their excellent space to invite regional bands (of all types. not just metal.) to bring in crowds, and to inspire a better atmosphere. Before moving to the area I was told that this place was ghetto and the reputation of night fights- so I had to go see if it was the truth. We went out during the day and had lunch /beer and was really happy with my experience. Staff was short handed, but the bartender was great and super friendly despite having to maintain everything herself. The cagneys nachos were amazing- and gave us reason to come back regardless of drinks. Also had the chance to go out and night to cagneys and still had a great time- glad I had checked it out despite the gossip- definitely my more favored place in town now! read more

I don't really know why I love this place so much since I'm not really a fan of sports bars, but there's just something about Cagney's Saloon that keeps me coming back. Maybe it's the store-front high tops for people watching on the street or the back patio overlooking the lake. The upstairs pool table is nice as well, and recently they started hosting poker tourneys. Cagney's used to have a handful of craft brews on tap, which is impressive for Hobart, but they've since scaled back a little. I love to come here for lunch on a rainy Sunday or to have a few afternoon beers on the patio on a warm spring or fall day, but I try to avoid Friday & Saturday nights since I'm at least 15 years older than the rest of the crowd. The only time I came here on a weekend night it was wall-to-wall, a$$hole-to-elbow from front to back. If I were single and 22, it would be fabulous. The Reuben sliders are excellent, and the buffalo chicken sammy is also a favorite. And they have crinkle fries, which I think is the best shape for a fried potato! A word of caution: lately it tastes like they haven't cleaned the lines on their taps, so I suggest ordering a bottle or asking for a sample before committing to a draught beer. read more

This is one of those places you go to that has the potential to be really cool, but in reality it sucks. The place is so smoky that i was practically crying when I left at the end of the night. The crowd is...eh...not my cup of tea. To its credit, the bartenders do a great job and they have a diverse selection of beer. But, if you ask me about Cagney's, I'll tell you it's the place you go to if you want to run into people you went to high school with, the ones who didn't go to college and never left town and probably work at the local gas station, which is a shame because it has a great location and a nice size. read more

I've tried this place a couple of times simply because it's so convenient to where I live. Our first time ordering, my hubby ordered and picked everything up. They have typical sports-bar food: burgers, fries, steak sandwiches, etc... My husband had a burger and was quite pleased with it. He said it was juicy and not overcooked (as many places in this area tend to do), and had a good flavor. I had a bbq pulled pork sandwich with "Cajun" fries (seasoned to make them spicy and flavorful, basically). I was very pleasantly surprised with my food: the pork had a very good flavor and texture (not too mushy, as if it were pre-made, and not tough), and was quite tasty. Bbq sauce tasted a lot like sweet baby rays (and it may well could have been), but they weren't heavy on the sauce and the pork had a good flavor. The fries were also quite good, although I'm confident they used some sort of pre-made seasoning blend. Regardless, the fries were medium-thick, fried perfectly, and were very yummy. And to top it all off, they give you the typical pickle-on-the-side, which made me a very happy girl. Now let's get to my second visit (which is why I'm giving a low score). I went in myself and ordered to-go, and from the moment I walked up to the bar and waited for the bartender (who was right in front of me, taking loudly to a co-worker) to acknowledge me for the next 5 minutes. I should have left then. I didn't, mostly because I was hungry and already had it in my brain that I was having that yummy pulled pork again. When she finally took my order, she acted like I was inconveniencing her and never said about how long is be waiting, no "thanks", nothing; she turned around and started talking to her co-worker again. I waited a good 15 minutes, just standing there (no big deal, as at least I knew my food was going to be fresh). When my food finally was brought up to the bar, the person who carried it set it down and began taking to the woman who took my order. And there I stood for another 5 minutes, until they finished their conversation and she casually grabbed my bag of food and handed it to me. Again, no "thanks", no acknowledgment, nothing. I'm not a jerk, so I tipped her the traditional 25%, even though she absolutely didn't earn it. I'm sort of a jerk though, so I made sure she saw me leave the tip for her and she still never said so much as "thank you". Maybe it's just me and I'm expecting too much. However, I don't think being polite is out of style (yet, anyways)... Again, the food was just as good as the first time, but it's hard for me to leave more than a few stars when the service is so lacking. This could be the place that everyone hangs out however some of the bartenders bring down others. Some of the bartenders seem to busy to care if you need anything. while some bartenders work their tail off. I really want to to like this place as the bar back busts his Ass every time I come here. I really, really like this place. I have been here during the day and at night several times since I live in the area. Lots of great beers (I am a fan of Three Floyd's Gumballhead)! The food has not disappointed me yet. I can understand that this is a bar and grill, but why is the stench of cigarettes so overwhelming? Another problem is that if you do come here in the evening, it is impossible to hear one another speak for the music is incredibly loud. Good day bar.
