I have been to Cafe Wiener Platz a few times, at different times of the day and now feel ready to write a Review.
As my parents were visiting, we decided to have breakfast here. I had been in for a coffee a while back and was impressed by their breakfast selection. They have something for every taste, even that of Americans who are not use to the usual German breakfast of meat, cheese and bread. We were able to find a table easy enough at 10:00 on a weekday morning. There were a few other "regulars" having coffee around the bar, but for the most part it was empty. My father ordered an egg scramble with onions, cheese, and mushrooms. He was very happy with what was placed in front of him. The proportions were enough to satisfy. Both my mother and I had the French toast. Though perhaps a little small in portion size, it was quite tasty and the maple syrup wasn't overly sweet. Service was quick, but not rushed and the prices are reasonable.
My next visit was meeting a friend for dinner. It was close to where we needed to be in a couple hours and we both were in the mood for German food. It was a little more crowded with an after-work crowd there for a drink or two before heading home for the day. Not many people were eating, although it was only 18:00. They offer breakfast all day... and after having dinner I sort of wish I had gone for the breakfast again. It was all together bad. But very mediocre. We were there on a Tuesday and the daily special was pork Schnitzel. Seeing as the normal veal schnitzel was twice the price, we both ordered the pork. About 15 minutes after ordering, the waiter came back to inform us that the pork schnitzel was out and could he offer us chicken. We deliberated for a bit, but both decided to go for it. Again, mediocre at best. It was edible, but nothing fantastic to write home and rave about. The portion was quite small. Perhaps it has to do with being the daily special, but we were not impressed.
On the Weekend we were back at the Cafe for a drink before going to a movie. It was around 7:30 and the place was rather empty. We had already eaten elsewhere and were happy to see a large selection of beer, wine, and cocktails. For Munich, the price of cocktails was quite reasonable. I had a White wine spritzer, which was good.... hard to get that too wrong though. My drinking companion decided on a rum and coke and was happy with what he was given. The Server was very nice and friendly. She had a great attitude and was very attentive.
All-in-all, I would recommend Cafe Wiener Platz for breakfast and coffee/drinks, but cannot say I would go back here for dinner. read more
