I hardly drink any commercial pilsner beer anymore, but I still appreciate it when it is at least served in they best possible way. In Merlo they're so good at this particular -- and very Belgian -- skill, some of their bartenders managed to win some awards for this. So if you order a couple of lagers here, watch the bartender pour them and just enjoy the sight of a master at work!
Luckily they have some craft beers too, and they often get new ones, so there's something for me to drink as well.
The staff is mostly Dutch speaking, which means they're actually trilingual. As a consequence, the public is quite mixed here, without becoming too touristy.
Although their collection of spirits isn't huge, it's of an exceptional high quality, especially rum and single malt whisky. Actually, this is the only bar I know in Brussels that will serve your dram in a proper Glencairn whisky glass!
There's a huge smoking room on the first floor, but for some reason smokers tend to flock around the entrance anyway, so that's a bit a bit unfortunate. read more
