Obsessed would be putting it mildly. If I lived near here, I would eat here every day. The ambiance is great, but the food is outstanding. The churros and chocolate are to die for. The freshest churros I've ever had and the chocolate is like drinking chocolate. It's dark, thick, and not sweet and I have dreams about it. Honestly, my mouth is watering right now. I miss it. Good drinking chocolate is so hard to find in the US. The tortilla is also the best I had while in the country. Seriously, just get it. read more

We had to come in here because of the Hemihgeay connection although the bar next door was not open. The server was very nice and spoke English well and tolerated my broken Spanish. We started with 2 Estrella beers while we looked at the menu which is in English and Spanish. He warned us we were ordering too much food and honestly I didn't realize at first that I was ordering 3 separate sandwiches so my bad. But everything was delicious and we wound up not eating most of the bread. The bread by the way is terrific. Crunchy outside and soft inside. We ordered a Spanish potato omelette, a pork loin and red peppers, and the ham with idiazabal cheese which is similar to manchego. They come with potato sticks on the side (think Durkee if you are from USA) The Spanish omelette was my favorite and my boyfriend's was the pork loin. We were too full for dessert but left with very full and happy tummys! read more

Service was not the best, waiter acknowledge us and as we hesitated to order decided to ignore us. We had to go find another waiter to order our coffee from. And as we were taking our express outside to the area in front told us we couldn't and had to stay inside. So we did get his attention finally. Possibly because we were Americans? read more

As we continue our travels through the Northern Spain, we made a stop at a quite interesting town where Hemingway had enjoyed many visits. Café Iruña has been around for over a century in Pamplona and an historic building. This is a Spanish restaurant that serves mostly traditional Spanish food and at a welcoming price. Café Iruña was founded in 1888 in the Castle Square. Since the Basque language prevails in this part of the country, so does the name of the restaurant. This restaurant has been a popular meeting place for tourists and locals during their annual fiesta. That right, Pamplona during the Sanfermines, is where the running of the bulls is quite an attraction to many guest to the town. Besides its popularity during the Sanfermines, the cafés other claim to fame is that it was often visited by the American writer, Ernest Hemingway. There is a section devoted to the famous writer called Hemingway Corner. Also close by to the restaurant is a Hotel that Hemingway always lodged while in town. The interior of this restaurant is elaborate and traditional to its early beginnings. Some of its features include female statues along the walls, the elaborate wooden windows, huge mirrors on the walls and the decorative stunning columns that engulf the entire inside of the restaurant. What an incredible exhibit of architecture. Meanwhile how about the great food that we enjoyed while sitting at their outdoor patio. Café Iruña is quite possibly the greatest café experience in Spain. The selection of tapas, pastries, and meals are superb. The coffee beyond satisfying. Then there is the decadence of its 19th century ambiance. The topper is the hidden back room dedicated as a memorial to Ernest Hemingway. Not to be missed. read more

If anything, go check this place out for the decor, architecture and history of it. We were starving from traveling but we went when they were serving dinner yet. We ordered a few tapas from just glancing at them as they had no names of what they were. The serving staff were not helpful either. Never have I been treated so rudely by the wait staff. It was clear he hated his job and was not the least bit interested in serving anyone. I get that wait staff in tourists towns have to put up with a great deal, but honestly, no need to be so rude. We left without ordering anything. read more
