Caffè Panna is kind of quintessentially modern city living because you're waiting in line for a kind of pricey dessert because it has unique flavors that switch out every week or so that you don't want to miss out on. There's no seating, just a line and windows for ordering pick-up, so keep that in mind if you're looking for a place to chill for a while. I split a sundae with friends and, while it was good, I found that it was too sweet for my taste. It's indulgent, good quality, and fun, but I don't think I'd come back because there are so many other places in NYC for a sweet treat.
Nearly everything was sold out at the end of the day! And lines wrapped around the shop 2x waited a long time to order. No area to sit, just standing the whole time, a classic grab and go place. ~$9 for a stand cup size of just chocolate and vanilla flavors was kind of a bummer. Still delicious though. What really made it was the generous fudge drizzle and crunchy crumb topping were could choose. Otherwise, not sure if I'd want to come back.

I would say two people can share. There isn't really space to eat there but there are parks near by. Overall definitely worth a try!

The quality of the ice cream is fantastic. Creamy, rich, and smooth. They have speciality items for the month as well as some signature items. Most scoops come with a topping and the option of panna. Definitely get the panna! It's a better tasting whipped cream!

{Overall: 4.5; Food: 4.5} Service: 3.5 I have been to Caffè Panna's several times, and love their classic flavors. Overall, their ice creams are balanced and not overly sweet. After trying Cookies 'n Panna for the first time, I was craving it for days afterward. I also love Red Flag. It's unique, unexpected, and one of their sweeter options. Of their rotating flavors, I've had Smooth Strawberry and Mango. They're good, but not flavors I would personally repeat. The strawberry isn't as strawberry forward as I was hoping and the mango was decent, but didn't stand out. The biggest challenge is the line. Even at 3 p.m. on a random weekday, the wait can be 30 to 40 minutes. They sell out of flavors as the day goes on, and close relatively early for a dessert spot at 9:30 p.m. If there is something specific you want to try, go earlier. They post the menu daily on Instagram, although I have shown up on a few occasions and found the in-store menu differed from what was posted. If you want to skip the line entirely, and don't mind buying a bit more ice cream, you can order pints online ahead of time.
The rotating flavors make caffe panna different every time you visit. I feel like there's always a unique new flavor that will peak your interest. The line may be long but it usually moves quickly. Would definitely recommend giving it a try on a hot day (or a cold one for a shorter wait).
I have been super excited to try Caffe Panna and remarkably there was a really short line when we stopped by early evening on a summer Saturday. The little line there was moved very quickly. I got a coffee stracciatella with Panna and chocolate fudge. It was pretty good. I actually preferred the panna and fudge over the ice cream itself. I do wish they had a slightly smaller size option too, even the smallest one is pretty big. I'd try again but would probably get an affogato or one of the signature sundaes
Was so excited to try out this place, after all the hype. Passion fruit was refreshing on the palate , and the espresso caramel was crunchy, sweet and creamy. Would love to come back and try the seasonal flavors next time, highly recommend

I dont know what the hype is about the mango sticky rice ice cream but as a thai person I am so disappointed and barely finished this. My sister convinced me to come try this and we came 30 mins before opening and there was no line, in the blink of an eye the line went down the block further than the eye can see. The fried sticky rice ball was mediocre and had no flavor. The ice cream was too sweet. Not my cup of tea and wont be coming back. The hype is overrated
The ice cream is genuinely some of the best I've had in the US...thick, smooth, and creamy, with high-quality dark chocolate hot fudge. I was especially excited to try the special matcha panna, but by the time we arrived, almost everything served by the scoop, including the Matcha panna, had sold out. It would really help to have clear signage somewhere before customers join the line showing what's still available. Once you reach the counter, sold-out items were only marked sold out on the regular menu, with stickers over them, so it was hard to know what to expect. I'm used to New York's brisk, no-frills service, but this felt worse than that. The staff came across as genuinely unwelcoming and our overall impression was that the focus was on getting people to order and move along as quickly as possible. The ice cream is exceptional, but the availability information and customer service could be much better. It will always get five stars for an exceptional hard product. read more

This place is overhyped given the line, limited availability, and unwelcoming staff for average ice cream. Save your time and spend your money on other scoops Went on a Sunday evening 1.5 hours before they closed to find a very long line around the block. The wait ended up as 45 minutes. About 20 minutes in, a staff member yelled out to the line some type of announcement that the soft serve was not available (and a handful of people left). Evidently many other regular ice cream flavors were also sold out and unavailable by the time I got to see a menu. The signage is poor and ideally before people get in line, it should be clear what is available or not. There are tiny paper print outs for ice cream flavors visible in select places on the wall. When the line was snaking around I had to ask someone if I could see a copy of the menu and take a photo on my phone so I could review. When I got to the cashier I asked for a recommendation based on the few flavors that were left. She had no helpful input about the chocolate or the red flag sweet cream and when I asked what size corresponded to what price (since it was not labeled) she seemed to roll her eyes and responded. I chose the red flag sweet cream ice cream, which was supposed to have strawberry swirl and graham crackers but it didn't seem to have much of that noticeable at all. The positive about the scoops is that two toppings are included - and the panna whipped cream is good. Unfortunately whomever scooped my cup added a disproportionate strawberry that sauce caused my ice cream to be drowned and melt faster. It caused my cup to be unbalanced with the overly sweet sauce topping too. I hope they can improve their operations, availability, and staff training. read more

My friend brought us here after dinner and I was extremely impressed. Immediately noticed a huge line and was shocked but it moved quite fast. Wrapped around the block but only took 10 minutes with three different people taking orders. Simply a walk up window so no seating but the streets of New York are prime to walk around and indulge on ice cream. Snagged a regular which is two flavors (though they don't seem to be traditional full scoops). Comes with panna whipped cream, an option of a drizzle, and a topping for crunch. Lots of time to view the menu in line since there are multiple taped to the windows. Cookies n' Panna - this was especially creamy, smooth, and flavorful. Good blend of Oreo cookies with a creamy chocolate overall profile. I'm not sure if I can give enough credit to this flavor but definitely try it. They offer panna on the top of all ice cream for a reason, their panna is delicious and they want to show it off (plus it's in the name like come on, can't be more obvious). Banana Moose Tracks - this had a nice banana flavor but unfortunately I think the cookies n' panna melting a bit on top overpowered the flavor. Hard to fully rate but I enjoyed the other flavor way more and would want to try another flavor instead of this. read more

Caffè Panna is a staple ice cream spot in NYC! Their flavors are amazing and the ice cream will always be phenomenal. The only thing keeping this from being 5 stars is: 1. The super long line 2. Constantly sold out of the flavors I want While, these are two gripes I have, if you go earlier in the day I think it solves both of these problems. However, the ice cream is actually so perfect for a nice warm day. I would recommend sitting on a stoop and enjoying with friends! read more
Known for their panna (italian cream) They make in house ice cream with a diff menu of flavors every day! Youll have to check their ig story to see what flavors are available that day. I got the Caffee bianco stracciatella -- cold steeped coffee bean ice cream w/ fruity Amano chocolate shards. Panna is included and you get to choose one glaze and topping. The ice cream was creamy and delicious, but I couldnt taste the coffee. The panna was also good but just tasted like whipped cream. I rlly enjoyed the chocolate shards which added extra texture. Line was pretty long but goes by fairly quickly. I still prob waited around 40mins total at 7pm on a weekday. They unfortunately dont offer samples, and will most likely have a lot of sold out flavors by the evening. Def would come again to try some of their other flavors! read more
Ice-cream can only be so good, once it reaches a certain level I think all good places are the same. I would understand hype for specialty flavors/ sundaes but in general would not go out of my way. Just felt so heavy and thick, and not as refreshing. I prefer strawberry icecream where the main base has strawberry, not a sweet cream icecream with syrup on the side. Line is super fast though don't let it intimidate you! read more
Another NYC gem crossed off my list! We were intimidated by the line but were told service is fast and quick! I turned on my timer to see how true this is and we placed our order in 8 mins! Don't let the line shy you away! We had a soft serve strawberry and my friend had vanilla with some caramel tasted just like s'mores! Will be back again! read more
been meaning to try them forever but the lines always deter me. During the recent snowstorm, I got treated to their Tiramisu Sundae special (so she could live vicariously through my experience). It looked WILD on their Instagram and tasted as heavenly as I could have hoped. thick mascarpone infused ice cream, fresh panna, a candied ladyfinger, dusted w/ good espresso powder. I don't even like or drink coffee but love tiramisu. I just haven't had it in forever because the last few have been so disappointing. I knew there would give me hope and it did! I'll definitely have to brave the lines to try more of their flavors and specials! read more
Stopped here along our walk after lunch. So glad we did. It was cold out and they had a nice covered area to enter and order at the window. I got the affogato which was perfect. My family got some of the ice cream. It was good. I think we should've gotten the signature item or the sundaes. We have to go again. read more

The hype is real(ish). Okay, yes, this place is viral and trending hard right now. So expect to wait anywhere from 30-1.5 hr (anything more....just leave). We got here Sunday around 4 and waited a little over an hour. No, the wait isn't worth it but that's NOT the establishments fault. They are bombarded with people trying to get a taste of this internet sensation. It's pricey. Nothing too crazy though. Flavors are creative but it's good. Don't go in a rush or with a bad attitude. Plan ahead and know you will wait. If you want it, that's just what you're gona have to do. Don't complain about it. And keep in mind, they do run out of things so don't be mad if you waited a longgggg line and when you get to the window they say it's out. Super normal for a packed place. read more

Fyi for anyone coming early. Came from Seattle to try this and were first in line. So excited to try it but when they opened they did not have the soft serve ready or most of the flavors so we got turned away. May be worth coming in later in the day if you are planning on going. read more
Came here on a lovely 60 degree Saturday afternoon around 2 pm. The line was incredibly long, quite far down the sidewalk but it was a lovely day so it was a pleasant wait. The people working here are also incredibly efficient so no major complaints. All the flavors sounded great but the caramel corn stood out to me. I ordered this with panna, olive oil drizzle, and a graham cracker crumb topping. I got a regular but in the future I'd happily get a mini since with the toppings the amount is quite generous! The ice cream was ready very quickly. It tasted great, panna has a great texture, the ice cream flavor was delicious, and the toppings really added a lot of taste. There's no place to sit around the restaurant so most people stand around by the side walk or walk to a local park if the ice cream manages to last that long. Will be back! read more

I think the hype is definitely worth it! Expect a long line and no seats but a great summer pick me up to take and eat at the park. My advice is arriving right when it opens because other wise flavors sell out quickly. Fun new flavors every week! And even pints for home. read more

First Impressions: n/a... we lined up outside under a plastic partition... didn't look like we were allowed inside or that there was any room to sit inside The Noms: one of my favorite hot chocolates (first place goes to Rigor Hill Market)... the hot chocolate had the perfect drinking consistency, rich and thick without being too sweet or too bitter. I only wish that there was more of the whipped topping to add to the bottom half of my drink. I was tempted to ask for another portion of the whipped topping for the second half of my drink. Maybe next time I will. In Conclusion: 10/10 would recommend. It's perfect on a cold day and would def go back for another read more

Stopped by Caffe Panna near Irving Place/Union Square on a weekday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too crowded and had a short line, so easy in and out. There's no seating, so it's definitely more of a grab and go spot. The menu rotates flavors. I got a DIY sundae with a flavor called Ashes ice cream, caramel, whipped cream, and sprinkles - super good textures and honestly really good. That said, it came out to about $7.08 for the "tiny" size (That's what it's called). Service was quick and efficient, though not the warmest vibe from the staff, but nothing that really took away from the experience. It really is such nice blend of textures. Overall, unfortunately for my wallet and my stomach it lived up to the hype. 4.5/5. I'll definitely be back to try more of their rotating flavors. Finally tried Caffè Panna since it's been getting so much hype in the ice cream world. I stopped by after dinner for my friend's birthday to grab a quick dessert. The line looked a little intimidating at first, but it moved pretty fast. I waited about 5 minutes and got my ice cream in a cup within another couple of minutes. I ordered the cookies and cream, because you really can't go wrong with that flavor. It tasted amazing. The texture is what really stood out. It's incredibly soft, fluffy, and melts in your mouth. It almost doesn't feel like a typical dense ice cream consistency. It's super smooth and creamy. Overall, definitely worth the hype and a great spot to stop for dessert after dinner. read more

Mid at best. I was really disappointed by the customer service. The staff just seemed to yell at customers. I made the mistake of making eye contact with the employee handing me my ice cream while asking a simple question, and they snapped back at me as if I had asked the most ridiculous thing imaginable. I understand it was a long day, it was 9 p.m., and everyone was dealing with the heat wave, I was sweating too. But that's not an excuse to treat paying customers that way. If customer service isn't your thing, maybe a customer-facing job isn't the right fit. The ice cream itself was just okay, but the rude service ensured I won't be coming back. read more
Worth the hype! The ice cream here is so unique and good, and comes at a fairly reasonable price comparable to other shops in the city. The ice cream itself is solid, but the panna and free toppings are what make the ice-cream special - panna gives a light, fluffy, and espresso-y flavor that's the star of the ice cream! My one gripe is that they seem to sell out of flavors often. I've been here twice, and both times only ~3 flavors were left. I'd recommed coming earlier if you are looking for a particilar flavor. OMG SO GOOD! I came around dinner time on a Tuesday evening and there was basically no line. I ended up ordering a Caffe Bianco Stracciatella with panna, olive oil, and graham cracker. If I had more space, I would've looooved to order a bigger size. I was dying to try their Black Sesame flavor, but they were already sold out. The ice cream itself is really good! Creamy and flavorful. However, the star of the show here is that panna. The panna had a beautifully silky texture and it really complimented the ice cream. It was thick yet light and creamy at the same time and wasn't too sweet. I LOVED IT! I would LOVE to have panna on any ice cream I have in the future. I'd love to eat another scoop with panna from this place again! read more

I'm confused: one of the comments said there was no seating, but a photo showed tables and chairs. Does the Cafe Panne in Manhattan have seating? If not, is there a place nearby where one can sit outdoors? Not in Grammercy Park!
