Caffe Greco is such a cute little cafe located in Little Italy! I ordered their hot white chocolate mocha, and it was SO GOOD. It was probably the best one that I've ever tried. They also have some food options like bagels, croissants, etc., but I didn't try any of them. The line can get pretty long, but we waited only around 10 minutes when we went on a Saturday morning. The downside is that they are cash only! We didn't know until we got to the front of the line, but luckily I had some cash on me. The outdoor seating is also super cute, but is definitely limited. I was here Saturday 1/18 around 4pm. I ordered a small mocha and a baggie of 4 tiny chocolate dipped macaroons. The total was 22 dollars. I didn't realize til I got down the street that I was clearly scammed. All the pastries were around 6, 8 dollars. I went back and asked why the total came to 22 dollars thinking they make a mistake and the guy told me the macaroons were 17 dollars. What? And he told me that's california prices. Charming and simple CASH ONLY cafe in North Beach. They have an ATM inside, but better to come prepared and avoid the withdrawal fee. Enter and head over to the counter to peruse the cake display and put in your order. We came by on a Sunday afternoon after brunch to continue chatting over coffee and cake. There was no line at the time we came in and the staff at the counter were very friendly! Coffee and a sweet treat is always the perfect combination. I had a hot americano, which was pretty standard, with the cakes we selected. Carrot cake and tiramisu were both solid! If you're craving either of those, it would satisfy it for sure. This was my first time trying sacripantina and I enjoyed it! It's a liqueur-soaked sponge cake with custard, so in a similar vein as tiramisu. This long term North Beach establishment is very cozy and ideal to come for a cappuccino and sit with a book. Since it's on Columbus it gets a lot of foot traffic and is great for people watching. It's worth noting that it's Cash only. It's my favorite in North Beach mainly because it has the most amount of seating with many tables outside on the sidewalk and 2 rooms inside. With the parklets there's even more so hopefully they will last. This place has been here a long time in a city where things come and go easily. I just recently binged the Real World show (the OG 90s one) and it was one of the only places that the cast went to that is still around today. read more

I have gone to this cafe on and off for about a year and always order oat milk cappuccinos, which are a bit pricey but are very good. This is a great place to do work on the computer, people watch, or chat with a friend. They play a mixture of Italian and French jazz with Euro-pop. This place is cash only and you have to order at the bar, there is no table service. The workers are really nice! The wifi password changes sometimes, but you can just ask the people at the counter. This cafe I feel like is a lot more comfortable and relaxed than many other cafes in San Francisco which I find can be a lot more stuffy, with uncomfortable seating and unwelcoming vibes. They also are open really late compared to other cafes in SF which tend to close around 2pm or 3pm. read more

I'm a little bewildered that I've been coming here for over a quarter-century and somehow have never left a review; mind blown. Caffe Greco is a North Beach institution, and one of the reasons that I wanted to live in this San Francisco neighborhood. It exudes the same vibe I recall from spending time in countless neighborhood cafés around Italy, from Cortina to many Roman piazzas. The pastries and cakes are varied; all I've tasted have been satisfying. Their coffee drinks -- usually a macchiato or cappuccino for me -- have always been a delight; my "madeline" if you will. In these pandemic times they're served in a paper cup rather than the heavyweight ceramic of better days, but this too shall pass. I'll be heading back to North Beach shortly, and Caffe Greco will get another visit. Friendly and helpful staff just drives home the deal. read more

I would give 5 stars but there are a couple of things I would like to see to turn this into my favorite café. This place is cash only and a bit pricy. I don't mind it being cash only, that's their right, but when coffee, a sandwich and dessert for two +tax & tip is around $50 I might not be carrying all that cash on me. This cafe is located in the charming touristy North Beach District on Columbus. These days, the price of coffee and a dessert for two is $25. $7 is the cost of a large cup of premium coffee. Overpriced in my books but that isn't my reason for the average review. Indoors, it's too stuffy and bright; the outdoor dining is somewhat funnier but too loud.
