The staff weren't rude, but they also weren't particularly friendly. I do regret not trying any of the other dishes, as the menu looked more varied than just the bifanas. Overall, a solid, no-frills option if you're in the area, but don't expect anything remarkable.

The food was superb with a large selection of appetizers and main courses we filled the table with everything from steak to clams and even octopus. The restaurant is not huge but every seat was occupied and the staff were friendly and helpful with the large lunch crowd. We will certainly return next time we are in town.

The next time around we got their outstanding codfish fritters and the fried green beans which we Portuguese call "garden fishes." Just like my mom used to make them. Make sure to stop there and try some traditional Portuguese cuisine with some modern twists.

We got seated pretty quickly and we were very happy that there were multiple umbrellas up because the sun was definitely shining brightly that day. We saw some of the specials recommended by Yelp and chat GPT and decided to get some small tapas that were local to the area. A lot of them were with tuna and octopus. And they were very very delicious small portions which was great for us because we didn't want to have too much of a heavy meal as we were going to have a big dinner later on Service was spot on. We had three separate servers come check on us throughout our hour and 45 minutes there. Very pleasant, big smiles on their faces, and we're very quick to see if we needed any extra items. We were happy with our overall experience and prices, even though in a touristy area, were reasonable if you focused on the topaz and a bottle of wine.

For those who haven't had one, the bifana is a staple of tender, simmered meat (usually visible somewhere in the restaurant) and placed between a fresh piece of bread. Traditionally just meat and sauce from the vat of simmering meat juices. This was close to the Rossio section of Lisbon, making it very convenient to various attractions. They also had other meat pies, codfish cakes and French fries. Staff were very friendly (and spoke English for those visiting) with a chill and casual vibe. Perfect for a quick lunch close to the square to sit and enjoy a lunch or light dinner.

It was getting a wee bit late for lunch (~1:30 PM), and I was quite hungry, so when I passed by Pica Pau and saw how packed it was, I knew I had to drop by to give it a try. It's absolutely bustling inside; there are several tables inside and outside, and you can generally just seat yourself as long as there's an open slot. There are very few tourists here -- another great sign -- so the menus will all be in Portuguese, and it will be hit or miss as to whether your server can translate for you. However, the menu is pretty simple, so it's easy enough to intuit what they say (or to just use Google Translate) -- the menu is spread across three blackboards, one for daily specials, another for seafood, and the last for other meat dishes. Everything is just twelve euros for lunch, and it also comes with a drink and bread. You genuinely can't go wrong with anything on their menu. My mom and I both ordered from their seafood menu, and the fish is super fresh and grilled to perfection. It has a perfect char on the outside, and is super flaky and tender on the inside; they add a hit of salt and a side of lemon, but the fish honestly doesn't need much else. The fish also comes with a side of boiled veggies and potatoes, which are a great, neutral accompaniment to the fish. I ordered the swordfish, and my mom got the sea bass, but we ended up splitting both of the dishes between us (especially since they both conveniently came with two pieces). Both were phenomenal, but I did enjoy the swordfish a tiny bit more; it was a bit more tender, and they also descaled the swordfish but did not for the seabass, so it was a slightly easier eating experience.
