The Food: * Starters: The hummus and muhammara with pita were great. They also gave us bread with EVOO--it looked perfectly crusty on the outside and soft in the middle, and it tasted just as good as it looked! * Mains: I couldn't decide between lamb and salmon. The waiter suggested lamb, but I went with the salmon and it was the best decision. The citrus sauce on top was divine! Wish it came with rice instead of just veggies (though the veggies were tasty). The Service: The staff was friendly and service was good, but a heavy language barrier made it hard to understand the waiter, so he wasn't very helpful with menu questions. Overall, a great experience. I'd definitely come back later in the evening to catch the live music!

Mediterranean @ Edgewater, NJ, 3.5 stars…read more Decided to try the restaurant since it was 10 minutes walk from my sister's place. We had a dinner around 8pm on Friday but the restaurant was not busy at all. It appears it used to be a cuban restaurant but v the owner changed and became a Mediterranean. The menu was very simple and it was a BYBO. We told our server that we wanted to share every dishes. We really liked the hot crusty bread served with a spread and it also tasted good with babaganoush. The pita bread was stale and burnt which came out with the babaganoush. The beet goat cheese walnut was refreshing. The fried calamari was crispy and went well with tahini based sauce. The lamb shishi kebob was tasty but the portion was very small and it was chewy. There was too many overcooked carrots as a side. You coould park on the street or valet parking was available.

The outdoor seating was perfection and the food was delightful, but the real star was our waiter, Nahid N. Even with a packed house, he was the definition of grace under pressure--attentive, informative, and genuinely cheery. While NYC has endless dining options, we'll be returning to The Ellington specifically demanding that we sit in his section again. Nahid N., you are the man. Thanks so much for being a highlight in our New York trip. We will be back!

The Ellington generally offers nice ambience with a pianist, good food and good service, but my…read morefirst experience carries a caveat: their policies can be enforced against their interests and yours. I visited The Ellington on a rain soaked Sunday with a group of thirty, a Ministry from a Harlem Church. The restaurant has the room to host substantial groups and one of our Ministry members has been a regular at The Ellington for many years, more often for brunch, and she arranged for us to brunch at The Ellington. We were not seated exactly where we were supposed to be seated, but it worked out fine for the most part... I ordered the Skirt Steak and Eggs Frites, medium rare and scrambled soft, from the brunch menu, but had my eye on a few items from their regular menu, which I was told was not available during brunch. I also ordered a glass of Australian Shiraz they have on the wine menu. The steak was pretty good and cooked just a bit north of medium rare, but okay. The au poivre sauce put it over. The eggs were scrambled soft and the surprise was how good the fries and onion rings were, the latter particularly crispy on the outside. This would be most satisfying for most appetites. One person returned her chicken and waffles for lack of any substantial chicken on the plate, but the steak frites will stick to your ribs. The Australian Shiraz must be the sleeper on the wine menu. It's good. The confounding issue arose from the member who is a regular here, who brought her own tea bag and was charged five bucks for the hot water. This charge and policy was enforced by the manager with indifference, which is surprising for a regular who just brought the restaurant receipts of $1500 or more. I ordinarily choose not to comment on such matters within the discretion of the management, but, when the discretion is exercised with indifference to a regular, it is worth noting and adjusting my rating, even when most aspects were good. I cannot see how enforcement of this policy is in the interests of the restaurant or the patron for five bucks on an overall check of $1500 or more possibly. 3.0 stars

The staff were extremely courteous and professional. Everything was done according to what was discussed. Food and drink in the bridal and grooms suits exceeded our expectations- we never had to ask for any refills. Food was excellent- better than what we expected for wedding catering. The cake was set up so beautifully and served fast. We were given the option of storing our wedding things in the bridal suite and manager's office, which helped us to no end with set up. The cost of everything was reasonable, especially considering we were holding a wedding in Manhattan. We will definitely be recommending Faculty House as a wedding venue for all the reasons listed above, but mainly for Louise Castellano, our contact person. She was amazing beyond words. Louise was always courteous, professional, and timely in her responses. She took detailed notes every time we asked for anything and was extremely accommodating with our requests. On the day of, everything (yes, everything!) was done according to plan. For example, we had wanted the chairs set up with smaller rows the reception and decided not to go with a small table at the front of the ceremony for the officiant. We told Louise at the rehearsal. Next day, ceremony setup was exactly as we talked about. We had given Louise an itinerary of the ceremony and reception, and she had that in her hand the whole day. She knew where everyone and everything should be and was always easy to find when we needed her. She was always present but not overbearing or in the way. We will DEFINITELY be recommending Faculty House to all our engaged friends. We will tell them to request Louise. We are supremely grateful for everything she did for us.

Held at the beautiful rooftop garden at Rockefeller Center overlooking St. Patrick's Cathedral, the setting alone was worth the trip. As the sun set behind the Manhattan skyline, guests were treated to an evening that felt equal parts whiskey education, culinary experience, and celebration of American craftsmanship. The WhistlePig team put together an outstanding lineup of cocktails and rare whiskey pours, each thoughtfully paired with a multi-course dinner. Every course felt intentional, from the beautifully presented appetizers and seasonal produce to the perfectly cooked beef course and creative dessert finale. The food wasn't just an accompaniment to the whiskey it stood on its own. One of the highlights of the evening was host Max Miller of Tasting History. His storytelling added depth and context to each pour, connecting American history, whiskey culture, and the culinary experience in a way that kept the entire table engaged. What impressed me most was the attention to detail. The tablescape, service, pacing, glassware, cocktail program, and overall guest experience were executed flawlessly. Nothing felt rushed, and every element contributed to the story of the evening. WhistlePig continues to prove why they are one of the most innovative names in American whiskey. This wasn't simply a tasting event it was an immersive experience that celebrated history, hospitality, and craftsmanship at the highest level. If WhistlePig hosts another dinner like this, don't hesitate. Buy the ticket. -- Jeffrey Umaña @jeffrey.umana

From a wedding guest point of view…read more Wedding was right before the December Storm. This is rated as one of the most expensive venues in NYC. Yes, the views are amazing, however the weather has to be just perfect. Especially if you plan to use the outdoor patio. Which, why wouldn't you? The space itself is not for large groups, wedding party size approximately 50. Plus the wait, bar & other service staff. The location is prime, if you plan to take a car, remember this is NYC & traffic is bad. You can probably walk faster than a cab or car service. Especially during the month of December. NYC gets more visitors in December than all year long. The venue has 2 bathrooms for women which is not good, however worked for this crowd. Think of this location as a once in a lifetime, only if you have the funds for this location. As guests we were thrilled to be invited to such a lavish wedding!
