Hubby and I stopped in after a nice walk around town. Very cozy coffee shop with a nice selection…read moreof beverages and food. The chai latte was really good (made from scratch chai tea leaves vs pre-made mix), and served in a lovely large ceramic mug that gave me the "stay awhile" vibe. Hubby had a black coffee and a REALLY yummy breakfast sandwich (the toasted bread really made the sandwich), and the ingredients inside were fresh and flavorful. Nice mix of locals working inside and folks stopping by for a quick bite. Loved the interior. Really nice worker greeted us as soon as we came in and explained the seating/service options. We'd go back!

We sat outside, enjoying the summer air and watching the downtown hum along. The food here leans simple but thoughtful. The Island Hot Cake was fluffy and satisfying, and the Fry Up breakfast (with bacon) hit all the right notes--especially the potatoes. Maybe it's just PEI magic, but even as a side, they stand out. Our lattes and matcha latte were smooth and well-crafted, and the pacing felt unhurried in the best way. Service was friendly without being overbearing, and it's the kind of place where you can linger with your coffee without feeling rushed. If you're in Charlottetown and want a reliably good breakfast with a quality cup of coffee, Receiver is worth the stop--especially if you can grab a patio seat.

I saw the 4.7 rating on Google and went in with pretty high expectations. Based on our experience…read moretonight, I was somewhere between 2 and 3 stars, but I'm rounding up to 3 because I'd rather leave constructive feedback than just trash a place. We kept it pretty simple: two burritos and an order of nachos. A few positives first. I really appreciated the cold carafe of water being dropped at the table right away without having to ask. I also loved the two hot sauces served in the short bottles. Being able to add as much heat as I wanted definitely helped the meal. The al pastor on the nachos had good flavor too--I could really taste the pineapple, although I think the meat would have benefited from a much harder caramelization. Unfortunately, the biggest issue was execution. The nachos were very sloppily assembled. The toppings weren't dispersed throughout the chips, so probably 40-50% of the chips were basically bare. There was very little brightness or freshness to the dish--hardly any pico de gallo, no salsa available, and things like pickled jalapeños or even a little chopped cilantro would have made a huge difference for pennies. Instead, it was mostly refried beans, meat, some partially distributed cheese, and a small squirt of sour cream. I ordered a side of guacamole for $6.50 and received what looked like maybe 3-4 tablespoons. That's pretty difficult to justify. The burritos were the biggest disappointment. They were served cut completely in half, which seems unnecessary for a dry, handheld burrito. It leaves you eating two open ends instead of being able to pick up a properly wrapped burrito and eat it normally. More importantly, they were incredibly dry. Looking inside, everything seemed piled into the center--rice, lettuce and protein--with very little pico or anything else to bring moisture, acidity or freshness. There isn't salsa available to compensate, either. I ordered a side of pico for another $5.50 and received maybe 1/4 cup. Even after adding that, I found myself using a ridiculous amount of hot sauce and salt just trying to wake everything up and add some moisture. The food also wasn't particularly hot temperature-wise. Service was okay but pretty middle-of-the-road. Our server got us started, but after that we barely saw him. They also don't offer a non-alcoholic beer, which was disappointing. Maybe we caught them on an unusually busy night or toward the end of a long shift, because the 4.7 rating suggests plenty of people have had much better experiences. But based strictly on what we were served, the food needs much tighter execution--better distribution of ingredients, more freshness and moisture, hotter food, and considerably better value on the add-ons. There were a couple of good flavors in there, particularly the al pastor, but overall this was a frustrating meal and not one I could rate higher than 3 stars.

Perfect! Charlottetown is lucky to have this spot! Authentic tasty Mexican right down town! Cute…read morelittle spot that compliments the bright flavours. Guac was super fresh, quesabirra broth was superb, and enchiladas were tangy and bright. Service could be at tad faster in regards to checking in on the table but I think they will iron out the kinks as they settle in. Despite that, food is out fast and hot! Parking is street parking, paid during day but free after 5pm and on weekends, can be tricky downtown but often will get lucky and get a close spot. Otherwise worth a little stroll to get there if you park further away. Accessibility: not currently wheelchair or mobile device accessible as there is porch stairs to get in. Tables would be okay to get a wheelchair under once inside though. Didn't use the bathroom so unsure how that would be. Great veggie options, not sure about vegan. Good servings and definitely don't miss the tres leche cake!

A few minutes later, a person clearing tables walks past us without a word to us or the couple waiting to pay. A few minutes pass and someone comes out to seat us and drop menus. Does not offer any drinks and walks away to seat two more tables. As I log in to Yelp to read the reviews of this place, I am horrified at the average 2.1 star rating. I feel we made a big mistake. I look up to check out the menu and I see the person who seated us now seating another group and immediately taking their order. Talk about horrible service! Serving people who came in after you first is quite a shite move so we just got up and left which was likely a really good idea.

This place is passable. Just ok. Today I got their grilled pork & springroll with rice (I…read moresubstituted the vermicelli, cuz I prefer rice). It was surprisingly bland. I've had tons of Vietnamese dishes from various places and the meat is usually super-well seasoned or marinated - this wasn't. On top of that, it was a considerably small amount of meat with a large portion of rice & salad. AND the tiny pieces of meat were hard and dry. Not served with any fish sauce either, so I drenched the dish in the Hoisin & Sriracha that was on the table. Only reason I'm not giving it a lower review is because I was here a few weeks ago and got the Special Shrimp Wonton Pho, and that was decent. Also a little on the bland side, but the portion of shrimp and wontons was generous. Lastly, the server was friendly, but once I got my dish, I was left alone for quite some time. Sat for a good while after I was finished, napkin in the bowl and everything, until I got up to ask for the bill myself. And the restaurant was almost empty, so they weren't too busy to check in on me... just unattentive, unfortunately.
