It's most popular for breakfast, but anything can be enjoyed. Of course, the Blueberry Pancakes are a must. Even if you order something else, get a pancake on the side. They may be some of the best I've ever had and I've had a lot. It's not your usual pancake. It's not big and fluffy but crisp and skinny. The corned beef hash is good. The omelettes are good. The blueberry PIE is good. They have plenty of gluten free options. Chill and approachable bistro with serious culinary chops. If you're looking for fine dining without losing the charm of a low-key cafe, Cafe This Way is a really good choice. True to its name, the restaurant is tucked into a cute little cul-de-sac. Inside it is pretty open and airy, but also very cozy. The staff is patient and professional in explaining the daily specials, of which there were several. They had an interesting fish of the day with some spice to it, which did not disappoint. They also have a decent assortment of local beers, including the Bar Harbor Brewing Stout (if you're really strategic, you'll pair it with a dessert). Just a really nice dinner, all in all. After moving back to the area, we were wanting to take a day trip to Bar Harbor. So we did some searching online for pet friendly restaurants, and Cafe This Way popped up. We stoped in for breakfast with our dog and was immediately seated outside on the patio. Within 3 minutes, a staff member came over and asked us if our dog would like a bowl of water. After Jake, our dog, got his bowl of water, piping hot coffee hit our table and breakfast was ordered. Our breakfast arrived without delay and was delicious. Delicious dinner. We were a large group and everyone was very happy with their dinner choices, including 2 vegetarians in the group. If you are looking to satiate your lobster fix, the lobster trio is a good choice. 3 versions of a lobster roll, what's not to like? They also won me over with the eco-friendly straws. My favorite breakfast spot in Bar Harbor across many visits. Across all those visits (including a couple of weeks ago), they have been consistently competent with very good food, priced reasonably. The quality, prep, and presentation are all a little above average (think "fancy breakfast"), the meats taste like meat rather meat-product, there's vegan and vegetarian options. The bar can mix up a rather decent Bloody Mary. The location off an alley near the Village Green can be easily missed driving (but they have their own parking lot), if you're walking there's obvious signage at the sidewalk. The eclectic dining room (books, interesting spaces, booths) is welcoming, there's some outdoor seating (seasonal I'm sure) as well as benches outside for those waiting. One thing to note is they only do breakfast and dinner service, so they close kind of early between the two (before lunch time). But they are open bright and early for the morning hiker crowd. I'm not usually a sucker for butter but this I wanted to lick out of the ramekin. Bread was perfect after a day of wandering in Acadia park. After spending the past few months paying for overpriced brunches and drinks, I thought I had gotten over most of my sticker shock, but it was still jarring to pay $28 for seared tuna and chilled noodles on the side. Granted, the tuna was cooked perfectly and I loved the noodles and hey, it was definitely a "treat yourself" kind of week. I know, I know, I'm a stingy scrooge, but I thought the portion size didn't justify the price. Loved the ambiance and the cheery sign. Nope, no battle here folks, 2 Cats is the winner. The eggs were a bit flat and not rounded, they use basil here instead of scallion. The English muffin was a bit burnt on the edge and it was semi hard. Their home fries are ordinary, it doesn't stand out like the ones at 2 Cats. The eggs Benedict might be cheaper here but they give you less lobster and the food isn't nearly as good as 2 Cats. Shoutout to the corn beef hash though, never thought corned beef could taste that good so this place earned an extra star. Honestly I would say 3.5 for the rating but I preferred rounding down because 4 means I am a fan which I'm not. read more

We came to Bar Harbor for lobster of course. Lobster for lunch. Lobster for dinner! As we strolled on the Main Street in the evening, this place's sign hung at a street corner caught our attention - "Cafe This Way!" A finger points to an unnoticed off street, with footprints on the ground taking you down the lane. The place has a relaxing and sophisticated setting with art everywhere, even on its tables. The steamed lobster costs $25, with mashed potatoes and fresh veggies on the side. At 1.5 lb, the lobster is huge compared to other places, and is cooked to perfection. No shrunken meat and pools of water here. The meat is supple, tender, and juicy. It's probably the best lobster meal I've ever had! The lobster rolls are nearly as delicious. The restaurant proved to be much larger than it appeared from the outside, but we ended up being seated in a back room though we held a reservation. My wife ordered blackened medium rare tuna that included a jicama-orange salad and lime-avocado crème. The tuna was served cold so it was sent back to the kitchen. After a long wait, the waitress brought out a 2nd plate that had been sitting too long. She returned minutes later saying she brought out the wrong plate and put the original plate on our table. The tuna was now well done and barely room temperature. I was more successful with my entree, Brazilian Flavors - shrimp, scallops and mussels in a tomato-coconut broth with veggies and rice. Pros: Friendly and fast service. Even in a busy Saturday morning, they were able to seat our large party of 10 in only about 15 minutes. In addition, the blueberry pancakes were outstanding. Thinner than normal pancakes but the edges were perfectly crispy. Like a cross between a pancake and a crepe. I would absolutely recommend the pancakes above anything! Cons: Most people at my table ordered the lobster Benedict, which was tasty, but flawed. The egg was overcooked--no runny yolk and it came this way for everyone except for one person who requested their egg to be runny. There also wasn't enough hollandaise (ask for extra on the side). However, there was a good portion of lobster and it tasted great despite a little dryness. If you order a Benedict, just ask for a runny egg and extra hollandaise and there shouldn't be any problem. Overall cute brunch place with pretty good food and especially good blueberry pancakes. Great location in downtown Bar Harbor as well. read more

My husband and I were so happy to find Cafe this Way on Yelp. We read it was a great breakfast spot, but we were passing by it one evening and the name jogged my memory, so we decided to try it for dinner. After a few days in bar harbor of eating less than stellar meals, this was a godsend! We both got the zucchini and squash "pasta" with mushrooms because we had been eating out all over Maine for 6 days and were feeling like we needed some veggies. You guessed it. The noodles were actually zucchini and the dish was perfect; meaty mushrooms, pesto, and toasted polenta triangles. I was so full but still tried to eat every, last bite. We liked it so much that we went for breakfast the next morning. There was a line out the door, but they had self-serve coffee while you wait! How great is that? Then I got the blueberry pancakes: omg. Too bad this was my last morning in bar harbor. I would have been here for these everyday. Also we got the fruit bowl. Nice, bright atmosphere and friendly service. We sat inside due to rainy weather, but the outside areas looked comfortable (in better weather). My partner got a breakfast burrito with a side salad. The burrito was solid -- and customizable. The salad had fresh butter lettuce, gourmet radishes and a good dressing. Unfortunately I got the tamari vegan scramble which was one of the saltiest foods I have ever been served. It was close to un-edible -- I left most of it on my plate, despite being pretty hungry. I should have asked the waiter for something else, but I thought the tofu was pre-marinated -- it was the only vegan offering. I saw afterwards in another Yelp review that others had the same issue with the super salty tofu. There are so many great, less-salty sauces out there - the restaurant should just switch the sauce! read more

YES YES YES! Came here for breakfast before heading into Acadia with our 1yr golden retriever. Sat on the patio with him, our server was great- brought out a bowl of water for him immediately and was great with our loving young pup. I had the smoked trout omelette... YUM!!!! My fiancé had Kits burrito with veggie sausage. AMAZING! We are currently heading BACK for breakfast again at this place. Normally while traveling we won't go to the same restaurant twice but this is an exception!! Fantastic food!!! I came here while on vacation in the beginning of September, and loved this place so much we ended up coming here for breakfast 2 of our 3 mornings in Bar Harbor. You MUST get the blueberry pancakes - they are the best I ever had! They are fried so the edges are just crispy, and full of blueberries. Not to mention very generous portions! Other good options are their smoked trout omelet, various egg benedicts - granola is just OK. Service was super friendly too. As for wait times, we never had to wait though we did come during what seemed like the off season. read more

This place is tasty and I really, truly, genuinely mean TASTY. I visit MDI every summer and Cafe This Way is an absolute must. By the number of people in line during the high season, I think most people would agree. You can usually expect to wait 30 - 45 minutes for a table, but it is worth the wait. Damn fine food. If all non-meat entrees were as good as the Southwest Shepherd's Pie i think I would become a veggie (as in vegetarian, not vegetable). Wonderful flavor combination and texture. Of course it ain't exactly a low-fat dish, so that explains a lot of the deliciousness. I actually ordered the Zucchini "Noodles" and was man enough to admit to my wife that my food was just okay and that she out-ordered me (she ordered the Shepherds pie). But since she preferred the dish I ordered we simply swapped meals and were both happy. If you are going to be in Bar Harbor you should definitely give this place a try. My wife and I went there for breakfast on 9/17/21 around 8:30. Had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated but it was worth it. We ate outside in a heated dining area. The host was very nice and courteous. The waiter greeted us immediately with two glasses of water. My wife ordered a hot chai tea and I had a Ghirardelli hot chocolate. They both came out very quickly as did our food. My wife had the bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich with home fries. I ordered Kits burrito with sausage. It was huge! Salsa, sour cream, and guacamole were on the side along with home fries. It was very filling. The restrooms were very clean. Overall, it was probably our favorite restaurant in Bar Harbor. Try it! read more

Cafe This Way was unfortunately the wrong way for us. Arrived early before it was too crowded but service was slow. And couldn't feel any heat from outdoor heater at next table. Uncomfortably cold in the outdoor tent. Took a long time for the eggs, toast, and potatoes to come out. Ordered eggs over medium and the whites weren't set, the sourdough "toast" was an extra thick piece of flavorless white bread barely warm, not toasted and not buttered. The potatoes? Skip 'em. Flavorless, unseasoned and warmed. The bacon was the bright spot on the plate! Flavorful and perfectly crispy. Two stars (vs one) because our server was nice and brought us coffee refills. read more

We were recommended to try Cafe This Way for dinner by a friendly bartender at Cottage Street Pub (which is a nice place to hang out for a beer too). She even provided us the local guide with a partial menu so we could take a look before heading over. The restaurant had very "ambient" lighting (read: a little dark), but was laid back and had a welcoming atmosphere. It was quite busy and everyone seemed to be having a great time. We started with The Littlebit, a hot skillet of melted asiago cheese with roasted garlic, tapenade, and roasted peppers with bread for schmearing on. Way to put a bunch of good things together into a better thing, Tas-ty! I ordered the Lobster Roll Trio (we're in Maine after all) which had an Asian style, Western style, and traditional style on brioche along with potatoes and veg. All of them were good - I ate all of them, but I'm partial to the traditional one as it had the most lobster flavor. BF ordered the duck special they had that day. A seared and sliced duckbreast, fingerling potatoes, and veg. The duck meat was cooked nicely, but probably could have been rendered a bit more and gotten a crispier skin. The roasted potatoes were fantastic and I kept stealing them! For dessert we had a slice of blueberry pie a la mode. Very nice crust, filling wasn't too sweet, great warm pie to ice cream ratio. Very good food and we enjoyed the breakfast. I had the breakfast burrito and it was filling. Iced coffee could have been better. Tasted sour which is probably a bad roast or improper brewing. Other dishes we had: Eggs Benedict-cooked perfectly but lacked a bit of flavor in the hollandaise. A little salt would fix. They also need to have hot sauce like cholula and not franks for eggs Benedict. Blueberry pancakes were good but they need to use real maple syrup. The fake stuff doesn't cut it in Maine and half of the experience of pancakes is using the real maple syrup. I know super nit picky stuff but I take breakfast very seriously and this place could be off the charts with a few tweaks. read more
