Today, my gal and I ventured out for a Mexican dinner. My gal's favorite aunt (and BFF) suggested this place. It is kind of hidden due to the fact its off La Grange and although I had driven up and down La Grange 1000 times, I never noticed this place. Anyway, I struggled to give this place a decent review. As I will give credit when its due, I will say that the chicken soup, chips/salsa, and the service are all above average. My gal had the mahi mahi fajitas and she was disappointed. Not seasoned well and not cost effective ($17) spell out disaster! We didnt get a chance to try their drinks, but margarita's at $10 a crack dont appeal to us. Im thinking we will give it another shot since the menu has an extensive array of choices. I did notice the sweet potato enchiladas sounded good. I will keep you posted! read more

As my boyfriend would rate it, "a strong four." Service was friendly and quick. Chips and salsa were delicious, so that was a hopeful indication that our meals would be equally delicious. Chips were fresh and warm; for me that was the best part as I could probably just eat chips for a meal, but I did not-I got the shrimp tacos. Rice and beans were okay, but the tacos were better. Bf got enchiladas, said "spicy but flavorful and good cheese." Okay, so I know the Tribune isn't knocking down our doors for our reviews, but we enjoyed it. One thing that bothered another reviewer was the outdated decor and loud music. I wouldn't recommend for a romantic night out, but it's a nice dinner spot we were happy to have found. read more

I absolutely love this place! My husband and I have been coming here for years. I get their pollo limon which is a breaded chicken breast and I ask for it over angel hair pasta and is served with a lemon butter sauce. The hubby gets the stuffed carne asada which is served with warm tortillas of your choice. Their goat cheese and basil casadillas are amazing, the sangria is awesome, and the service can not be beat! As soon as you sit down, you are greeted with warm tortilla chips and salsa. Make it a point to stop in here!!! read more

Excellent food and margaritas! Carne asada is a must. But start with queso fundido with chorizo and get extra tortillas as you will want them as this is so yummy! Best to make a reservation if you don't want to wait. Parking can be difficult but worth it. read more

Very nice ! I hadn't been for about 5 years and they are still dedicated to fresh, tasty American/Mexican food. Monday & Tuesday are 2 for $20 (2 entrees & 1 dessert) with full size portions and their always excellent service. I'm not a desert guy BUT the fried ice cream is really a AAA delight. Food was amazing. Not only was the food amazing but the waiter was super attentive. I believe his name was dan. I had the grilled ribeye. Tasty. Café Salsa is fantastic. We order from Café Salsa about once every two weeks from Grubhub. To find a Mexican restaurant that delivers such great food is awesome! My boyfriend loves the Chicken Chargrilled Burrito and I enjoy the grilled steak tacos or chicken enchiladas. Our favorite is their chips and salsa. I wish I had the recipe for that salsa. Our favorite Mexican restaurant! Sit out on the patio and order a pitcher of Margaritas. Enjoy the chips w/individual servings of salsa and ask for the spicy carrots and jalapenos to go with them. We always order the grilled rib-eye. It comes with mashed potatoes and a spicy mushroom salsa. We ask them to split it in the kitchen and there is more than enough for us, and it is really good! We'll also go there and sit at the bar and eat and watch sports, you can keep track of the Bulls and the Hawks that way!! read more

I have been going to Cafe Salsa for years. They specialize in unusual dishes that most Mexican restaurants don't have although they do carry the old standbys. Their sauces (salsas...hence the name) are very good. The regular salsa is very good but if you like hotter, ask for Salsa Brava which has a very good flavor to it as well as being much hotter. Try these dishes: Churrasco (steak marinated in garlic, cilantro and some other stuff ) Chipotle Pork or Chicken, Pollo Negro (blackened chicken), Salmon with Mango salsa. For a snack try Black Bean Chicken Chile, BBQ Chicken Quesdillas or the Shrimp appetizer with a mustard based sauce- all are very good . The standard Mexican fare is okay but not authentic. Steak tacos offer a better grade of meat than most authentic taco places. If you like Chicken Enchiladas, go for the more flavorful shredded chicken instead of the chunks of chicken breast. The Margaritas are good ( I always get the gold) and are just $3 on Wed. for a pint glass. If you still have room for dessert, try the Tres Leche cake. Wed, Fri and Sat nights are usually very busy. read more

An excellent place that my friends and I dine at regularly. Chips and salsa are delicious (and endless!). Hard to beat the Wednesday $4 margarita special also. My dish of choice is the chicken fajitas -- they are very generous with the meat, unlike restaurants that give you a pile of peppers and onions that you have to fish the chicken strips out of (at least that's what I do - ha!). We have had the same server, Juan, at least twice and he has been terrific. Nice bar in front, separate from the dining room. Big TVs and comfortable stools. read more

Was here last Saturday evening. We were seated immediately even though the place appeared crowded. The chips and salsa are good - would have liked another basket of chips, but the entrees came out a lot faster than I expected. I ordered the spinach/mushroom.chicken enchilda. It was excellent except for the salsa verde which added a tartness that seemed out of place with the other grilled flavors. I ended up scraping it off - I think a red salsa would be a more fitting choice. Other than that, the service and atmosphere were very good. read more

I am really surprised that this place doesn't have more positive reviews. my fiance and myself went here on a much needed date night and the service was excellent along with the food. Everything tasted wonderful and it wasn't cheaply made. my fiance got the steak burrito with delicious steak filled on the inside and i got the beef flautas which where HUGE! i will recommend this place and definitely will be coming back. read more

We've eaten here about a half dozen times. I've not tried any of the seafood dishes as the one reviewer who posted the sad looking picture of her shrimp entree that's actually a "shrimp cocktail" on the menu (I'm glad I passed on that), but the carne asada and the carne asada burrito has always been outstanding, cooked perfectly, with portions large enough I end up taking some of it home. One of my friends ordered a quesadilla and another., one of the salads and they looked wonderful. The chips come out freshly cooked and the salsa is always fresh. read more

My cousin Mary took me here (she's a regular ) and love the service I got Juan, Chendo, and Susan always right on top of things. The food is out of this world! I have two little daughters that are very picky but because they get treated like princesses they try anything for me now . Everytime we visit with my cousin they now ask to go there so we do. Take my word I've been around the country as a truck driver and get to eat at many different places. This definitely is one of the top. Try it you'll be glad you did. read more

Not a fan... the decor is so outdated & the carpet is gross. This place needs a total over haul. Our server was good, very attentive and knowledgeable. The Margaritas were decent, didn't like they were served inside a soda glass. The chips were random, some stale, some fresh. I did like the individual salsas. We ordered out food and it did come out in a timely manner. The beans were to salty, my tacos were to spicy(chipotle seasoning & salt), my rice had no seasoning. Our enchiladas also had to much seasoning, almost to the point of being not edible. And now we have the bus boys vacuuming & cleaning the tables(spanking the chairs with a towel). The check was brought, our bill was $47.73, we put in a $50 & a $20, they gave us back 2 $10's. Kind of like saying we have to tip them one of them. This place reminds me of "the cup" in Countryside Mexican style... not a fan or a returning customer. read more

If your looking for authentic Mexican cafe salsa is not the spot. The food is expensive and it was not that good. We wanted to try something new I don't blame cafe salsa for the food it's just not what I'm looking for when I want Mexican (it is more Americanized) The service was non existent for the first 20mins. The hostess sat us down and we received chips and salsa. After that we did not have anyone assist us for 20 mins. We were looking around and every waitress just walked right passed us. Finally a waiter came and assisted us, he was very friendly, efficient and made the experience so much better. read more

So I just finished "staring" at my 2 enchiladas (spacy verde) shredded chicken and I am completely disappointed. I read all the reviews about this place I am a local and said sure why not lets give this a try and for my aurprise this was the most disgusting food I ever tasted. The rice that came with my dinner was topped with pure tomato can souce!!! The shredded chicken from my enchiladas was filled with that overwhelming cumin smell and taste! Mexican rice doesn't taste like cumin! I also grabbed a taco dinner for my little one and the tortilla was just cold and topped with a bunch of wilted lettuce. My horchata ( sweet rice water) tasted like just plain rice boiled water. No taste whatsoever! I don't know about the drinks in here but if you are coming here to find tasty food I would not even bother to try it. I ended up tossing out my dinner because of the overwhelming smell of cumin and flavorless food. read more
