Great Mexican food, and even better margaritas! (Really strong) The restaurant is off the main drag, but it is well worth the trip. The cheese enchiladas are my personal favorite. During the summer months, their outdoor dining can't be beat, and on Friday nights they have a Mariachi band walking around, which is great for the ambiance, but if you are trying to have a conversation, can get kind of annoying. The service is friendly and efficient. I have been here for a couple of birthday celebrations, and instead of singing, they put a large sombrero on your head and take a picture so you can have a keepsake of the night you had one too many shots of tequila. YELP COUPON I access the yelp coupon for a free guacamole. I presented the coupon from my cell, the waitor wanted to take my cell. Why would I give him my unlocked cell? I'm sure the technology exists where they can adjust the bill to reflect the yelp coupon without taking my cell. And asking me to get out of my seat to go to the register would not be courteous. I have been to other businesses, which did not demand my cell. Change that practice. read more

I can't say enough good things about Cafe Salsa - delicious food, friendly waiters, fast service, reasonable prices. The Queso Fundido is the absolute best cheesy-appetizer I have ever had, and I order the cheesy appetizer at every restaurant we go to. We recently moved out of state, and we can't wait for our next trip back to Illinois so we can order two Queso Fundidos - one with chorizo, and one with just cheese. read more

We've been going to Cafe Salsa for years.....Food is good, love their chips and salsa & especially their margaritas. Hate their bartender! He dislikes waiting on people and especially dislikes people sitting at the bar tables. Multiple times we have watched him tell people they couldn't sit in the bar. Absolutely the worst food I've ever eaten. 1. Margarita choice is either 'on the rocks' or 'frozen', neither served in a Margarita glass; frozen served in a beer glass. 2. Extra guacamole on the side was 1/2 cup of guacamole for $4. Guacamole was mashed with big chunks uncut avocado, and no flavoring. 3. $12.50 burrito was mushy; entire plate was like eating slop. On the menu, the diner was warned that because there were 'cold ingredients' included in the burrito, the burrito would not be hot. The burrito was cold. 4. The free salsa had an off taste, as of being spoiled or having a spice that was not right. This is not even authentic Mexican food. The total for two people, including tip, was $43.00. For that, at Lone Star (one mile further south), we could have had salad, a loaf of warm bread, rib eye steaks and properly made Margaritas. I am amazed this place stays in business. read more

This is my second visit. I decided to bring a family member to sit down for a meal. The food is great. This is the only reason I came (again). But our waiter was absolutely horrible. He never smiled,never came to see if we were enjoying our food,let alone provided good customer service overall. I was disappointed & so was my family member. Best authentic Mexican food in the area! The chips and salsa were superb, and the avocado lime tacos were to die for! Our server was more than accommodating; he overheard my fiancé and I talking about sharing a margarita (we are on a budget) and he brought us "one" to share in two large glasses (it was clearly more than one margarita). Love, love, love Cafe Salsa! My husband is a convert. He did not like it many, many years ago but I convinced him to give it a try again 8 years ago and he was shocked by the improvements to the food. We go almost weekly on Wednesday nights. Friends threw us a wedding shower here in 2007 because we love it so much! Hubby loves the tuna burrito, portabella mushroom fajitas, chicken burrito de casa and his new favorite is the cocinita pibil. I love the chicken quesadillas and the smoked BBQ enchiladas. Santos is our favorite server, so friendly and attentive. We remember him when he was a bus boy snapping his towel around. :) All of the servers are great - Juan, Chendo, Luis, Susana. We are so lucky to have a great place close to home that makes us feel welcome! read more

I have ordered from Cafe Salsa many times before and had a good experience. This time though it was through Uber eats I ordered a steak burrito that I paid for, and they sent me a bean burrito instead of the steak. When I called the restaurant they said I should of received a steak one but since I ordered through Uber eats I had to deal with them. This is terrible quality control and it was a screw up on cafe Salsa s part and not Uber eats. You should take better care of a repeat customer. Very disappointed. read more

You pay a bit more than across the street, but it always seems worth it. I always get the fiesta grande which has garnachas, mini fired taco things, and quesadillas. Good stuff! The chips and salsa are some of my favorite and if you want something with more of a kick ask them and they'll set you up. 2 of those house margaritas and I'm feeling good. read more

I am definitely a regular and have many good things to say and a few areas they could improve upon. When we moved to the suburbs I was scared to try it because the outside is not too cute. But I heard all good things, so we gave it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised by the enormous selection of seafood options. Not common at a Mexican restaurant which I why I don't frequent these restaurants. I do not drink margaritas, but everyone likes them. They seem pricey for the atmosphere, but I don't care bc I don't order them! Many Sundays we plop up ate the bar, yes with our daughter, but it's empty at that time. I order Bloody Mary's, weird, I know and we stuff our faces. I almost always get the tuna tacos. YUMMM!! They also usually have tilapia tacos which are awesome as well. The tuna are grilled and the tilapia are fried. Sometimes more than others. Last time I had them they were much less deep fried and more fresh tasting than the time before. Happens with the tuna sometimes too. I like it rare and sometimes it comes out fully cooked. I also like their ceviche, but their chips need help. Ughhhhh their chips. They are horrible! Greasy and just some of the worst I've had. My husband loves some massive combo he gets, and feels grossly full every time. The place is always packed, and I think the owner is a little too comfy with that. He's arrogant and that bothers me. There are 2 brothers that work there and they're great. One is a manager and he can handle like 15 tables at once-he's great. I don't see the point of the bartenders...they always need a server or manager to make the drinks. Odd. And please, please renovate. The place is soo tacky and mismatched inside. It's like an ugly restaurant combined with a cheap fiesta themed bday party combined with garage sale crap...you get the picture. Obviously they're successful, spruce it up a bit. Also, patio is always packed, which used to frustrate me. Until I finally got a seat out there. Zero charm to it and flies were insanity. I want to like you more than I do, Cafe Salsa, I really do!!! We have to establish a minimum standard for all restaurants for whatever they serve from any of the ethnic options. I think that what Cafe Salsa does well is American-Mexican food and offer some potent and delicious margaritas but not true traditional Mexican food. I may not be that guy who sings the praises to those looking for a dining experience that transports them to a small village in Mexico where a native grandmother makes a dish for you and it is traditional because that's the only way she knows how to cook. I recommend this place for those who will never try tripe or cactus or any of the number of 'bizarre' ingredients that scare the living hell out of less adventurous diner. Cafe Salsa should not be penalized for what they don't have but I wish they dared their customers to leave their hangups for a night and try a tongue stew at least once. What they prepare and offer is first rate but not near daring enough for a guy who rolls the dice more often then not. read more
