We had dinner here last night while in Bardstown. We began with the house wine which is not bad for 6$. We ordered a Caprese salad which was tasteless. Supermarket tomatoes. Chewy mozzarella and one leaf of basil per tomato slice. We then shared a penne pesto with shrimp that was delicious. Well flavored and good shrimp. Tiramisu for dessert that was pretty good. The service was friendly but unprofessional. Our server couldn't pronounce any of the Italian words. When we asked how the pesto was prepared her answer was. It's green! Indeed it was. We came here based on reviews. They didn't have the beer on tap that was on the menu. We ordered an appetizer, that we didn't get until after I asked for it again. This was at least 45 minutes later. After an hour of not having refills on water or beer, we just asked for the check so we could just leave. Nobody came back to collect our card for another 30 minutes, but then our pizza came out, which was completely tasteless. Top 3 worst experiences ever. read more

Cafe Primo's pizza is a thin crust winner. Quality ingredients, tasty sauce, pies plenty big enough to share. Especially partial to the Prosciutto, quality shared with generosity. A nice selection of beers and wines to complement. Be prepared for a wait- the place can get busy and they serve large parties. But they don't forget about you. When our bill came, our waitress explained that because we had to wait for our dinner, our drinks were on the house. Try the Chianti- smooth and eminently drinkable. In Bardstown for the Bourbon Trail and found Cafe Primo downtown. The service and the pizza were fantastic. They allowed for half and half as long as the sauce is the same. Loved the crispy crust and would recommend another visit. Busy on a Sat night but service did not suffer. read more

I've been to Cafe Primo a half dozen times or so and it never disappoints. The pizza are great and the atmosphere is quaint. If you are looking for something other than the typical pepperoni or loaded style pizza- try the hot brown pizza! Kentucky is known for its hot browns and this is a nice way to incorporate local flavor with international taste! read more

Very disappointing experience for my wife and I. The food was just bland and tasteless at best. The lasagne was way over cooked and just had no distinct taste at all. The spaghetti came with just a touch of sauce, so we asked for some more meat sauce and they brought out a completely different (canned?) meat sauce. The breadstick was burnt to a crisp so I turned over the black burnt side and they didn't mention it at all. Lastly, with all this we were not welcomed even a bit, not once did the servers ask how the food was or even seem friendly at all. We left a not with our check and explained we would never return and not recommend to any of our friends. For the prices they charge you would expect a much better experience. Perhaps it was a bad night but after reading some of the other reviews I can see that there is a trend. read more

Not good and over priced My wife and I arrived at 5:15pm, their own facebook page says they open at 5 but was promptly told when we walked in that they were not open till 5:30, so we waited outside until that time and was the first ones in. Despite that the service was still slow, they did a good job on refilling my drink often, since the glasses were so small and filled with all ice they had to do it often. The Food First off my wife ordered lasagna but couldn't even try it because they were all sold out. First ones in, a limited menu and they are already out of a main dish? Salad My wife had the Insalata Caprese, it was a simple salad, it didn't taste bad but it was drowning in vinaigrette, you could drink it off the plate. It was was over powering and ended dominating the taste of the whole dish Pizza I wanted ravioli but it wasn't on the menu, not a problem I read great reviews on their pizza so I ordered the Peperoni Classico. Either those reviews are fake or they had a really off night. Not only was it over priced it had almost no toppings, it was wafer thin, hardly any sauce or meat or cheese and the edges of the crust were burnt. So burnt that my finger were turning black on the edges of it. It wasn't terrible as far as taste but it wasn't good either. It's sad when Dominoes makes a better pizza for half the price. Spaghetti For $13 my wife got a bowl of spaghetti, or should I say noodles with a bland tomatoes sauce on it. Nothing else came with it, not even bread sticks. We ended up taking it home and I added cheese and spice to it and made it a lot better. Tiramisu This is the one good thing I can say about this place. The Tiramisu was delicious, it was soft and tasted fresh. I came here because I was excited about eating at a real Italian restaurant and I left disappointed with the service , with the food, and $50 poorer knowing I over paid for terrible food, so disappointed I felt compelled to write a review. read more

I ordered a prosciutto pizza; it came with three small pieces of ham on it and was half cooked and tasted terrible. When I complained the stink eye factor went through the roof, we did not feel welcome afterwards, or even less so. I tend to give out 1 stars sparingly, but this one deserves it. What we had: Pasta Romano (1/5): The pasta was overcooked, and the sauce was rich/heavy so the whole thing was soggy and completely unappetizing. Menu said the pasta would have mushrooms and spinach, but instead I got arugula and the mushrooms were missing. Penne Calabrian (1/5): Again, overcooked pasta, and the whole thing was oversalted. The menu did not list shrimp as an ingredient, but the cook decided to put it in there anyway. My boyfriend does not eat shrimp. Not cool. Baffles the mind how the the cooks do not know what ingredients are supposed to go in what dish. I mean, really. On top of that, it took a full 15-20 minutes for us to get menus and water, despite there only being 4 tables present. This place was a total waste of money. read more

We went to Bardstown to eat at Kreso's but they were closed for a wedding so we ate here instead. We were not disappointed! We got a pepperoni pizza and a pasta dish with chicken and both were very tasty. The crust was very interesting. Very crispy at the edges so it was perfect for folding over to get a crunchy bite every time. The waitresss said their crust was made from scratch, a secret family recipe. It had the taste of a crisp saltine cracker! The chicken was plentiful and tender in the pasta. At the end we were tempted to try a dessert and got the chocolate cake but was a little disappointed because it did not taste homemade. All in all it was a greatly satisfying meal and the service was excellent and they were very busy and kept up just fine. We will definitely be back. read more

Great pizza and perfect end to a day on the Bourbon Trail. Shared the family size salad which was more than enough for 4 people. Split a Saint Lucia pizza and the crust was thin and crispy with ham, mushrooms, ricotta and oregano. Would definitely recommend this place for a good casual meal. read more

My wife and I were in town for the Bourbon Trail. we were a little disappointed in the selection of restaurants in Bardstown and walked around downtown looking for a place to eat. I was frankly a little apprehensive because I didn't expect to find good Italian food in a place like Bardstown. Boy...was I wrong!!! We each had a house salad and split the Primo Primo pizza. It was very good. We enjoyed ourselves so much we came back two nights later. I had the Pasta Romano and my wife had the Mediterranean Pasta. You can't go wrong with either one. The penne Mediterranean was delicious was creamy sauce and lots of flavor. The wait staff was very attentive and everything was reasonably priced. My friend and I shared a pizza with ham, mushrooms and different cheeses. We also ordered two breadsticks. The pizza was really good with a cracker thin crust and fresh toppings. The breadsticks were hard and not the greatest, but the fresh tomato sauce served with them was delicious. I have to say that our service was not the greatest. They were clearly short-staffed that evening and I'm sure the team was doing the best they could. But we waited a long time for drink refills, while across the room an employee sat rolling silverware in napkins. I'd say this task could have waited so that we and others could have been helped. The pizza was delicious all-around, but the homemade sauce was exceptionally good. We especially liked the hot brown pizza (turkey, bacon, mushrooms), which is a big on a local breakfast dish. Went at 12:30 on a Thursday. We were one of 3 or 4 small tables. I ordered the Caesar salad and tomato soup. The Caesar dressing was just put on top instead of mixed in and I could tell it had just come out of a bottle. I assumed a restaurant that say they make their own dough and pasta would know how to make a Caesar dressing. The tomato soup was odd and tasteless. It had tiny bits of ground beef and lentils in it. The person I went with ordered a salad with ranch and lasagna. The order came out and it was a balsamic vinaigrette which had leaked all into the lasagna and made the bottom soggy. The service was painfully slow even though it wasn't busy. Cafe Primo was a huge disappointment. read more

I ordered the margarita pizza and it was not good. Eatible but not good. Totally over loaded with cheese and the 'basil' was pesto sauce in a small drizzle. Sad to have wasted $16 on it.
