The location is perfect too, after your meal, you can take a nice walk on the River Esplanade. Clean, safe, well-lit, and a pleasure to get a little exercise, after a big meal at Troi Oi. They have an extensive menu and I'm sure it's not 100 percent authentic but I do enjoy their chicken wangs, deep fried shrimp, goi cuon (fresh rolls), Bahn mi (baguette with beef sandwich) and their Vietnamese coffee (cold). The pho broth wasn't as nuanced and it certainly lacked the scent of cinnamon. But the catfish in a clay pot is a Vietnamese requirement and that was very good.

There really isnt a lot of parking available, but as long as you can fit your car in a spot, youre good. There have definitely grown a lot in the many years of my absence. I remember it was an all outdoor setting and the restaurant was still halfway through the field. Now, it takes up the entire lot with a second story spaces and airconditioned rooms and private rooms. I dont ever recall having a turo turo/ karenderia setting, but its there now and its the same as the food as they serve in the menu. Like most restaurants here, they have a place to wash their hands that is outside of the restrooms which makes it super convenient and you dont have to crowd the restrooms for that. Also, you can fill your own water pitchers or glasses at their self serve water station just beside the hand washing station. They were all very attentive to us. We had over a party of 15 of all ages and everyone was pretty fed and satisfied.

As soon as you walk in you will be greeted with a display of fresh caught seafood and you choose whatever and however you want it cooked. The chicken is sold in parts and I wish I'd ordered two, but being a light eater, I was conservative, and that was fine. The rice was great, but with all the sauces and peppers, this blows the top off the dining experience. Don't just take it from me. What do I know, but I'm purty sure you'll have a positive reaction or you'll have to get your pulse checked. :-)

Expectations have to be lowered for cleanliness, location, parking, etc. After all, Chicken Inasal is what people come here for. There is no air conditioner so be prepared for that. The place gets crowded during dinner time so come early. TIP: Bring a roll of paper towel. Use it to wipe your hands after you wash before and after eating. Price is competitive and service is good despite being busy. I would be back every time I'm in town.

Before this happened, I brought in a small portion of my home-cooked Indian for him to savour. The feedback was not what was expected, which is okay (said it was too strong, but everyone's palate differs). Robert later thanked me, apologizing for the lack of appreciation (after all, hardly anyone would gift them even after enthusiastic conversations on the topic of cooking good food). A couple visits later we ordered curried garlic shrimp, and Robert assured me that the skins we always taken off. We got the dish - not the freshest shrimp at all - with all the clothing on. Some skins were half torn-off, and the meal was made to look ugly. When looked over to the kitchen, both the cook and her helper were looking at us laughing! Couldn't believe it! Never happened to either of us before, but I'm also sure Robert didn't know of this. We have never returned. Although the 'best' Indian-styled restaurant in Ilo2, such a bad thing that we've never returned. Felt tempted to tell Robert about them, but it seems he's lost control of his own operation. Hardly what one expects: damage done to a meal - like spitting in it, disguising some disgusting stuff with flavour, etc. - is not unheard of, esp. if someone is not wanted in their venue. But we'd not done anything rude to those young Filipinas, except bring in some curried chicken to get feedback. Perhaps feeling threatened by the foreigner's contribution, they decided to get rid of us. Worked. To drop this place off the map seems fitting...
