All options are delicious! We had mango cheesecake and their signature chocolate cake (my favorite!). I loved the round, bright motif that the doorway and walls had. If you can't find a desert to suit your tastes at this place, you can't find it anywhere. We had the apple pie and carrot cake along with an americano. The deserts were unbelievable; they were fresh and well made. The americano was made well too. The overall look of the restaurant was clean and fresh. The entrance is interesting aesthetically as the entrance door is an unusual shape. The service was good as the employees were very attentive. Bacolod is known for its sugar plantation and penchant for things sweet. Calea Cakes and Pastries is the embodiment of the city's love for desserts. Located in Lacson Street where all the action is, Calea's can get pretty crowded. It's mostly packed with tourists and locals all waiting to get their hands on the sweet treats. When you enter, take a moment to view the wooden door in all its pinkish glory! Just above it is the simple business signage that belies the all the wonders you're in once you step inside. The moment you step inside is where the magic starts. Inside the glass display are all the beautiful cakes you will probably lay your eyes on. The good thing is you don't have to buy them whole! Calea Cakes and Pastries allows you to purchase them in slices and they're just less than php100/slice! We ordered four different slices of cakes (ice cream cakes, cheese cakes, and mudslides) and 3 frappuccino and paid only Php680! Now that's what I call a steal! Overall, you should never fail to drop by Calea's Cakes and Pastries while in Bacolod. You won't regret it. Definitely a welcome change from Manila's expensive dessert houses. Let me tell you a true story. We arrived in this city with friends lauding the fabled baked creations of this establishment. "The best bakery in the city" they decreed. "The best", you say?!? Being from one the more prominent western civilizations in the world and of spartan mind, I said: "We shall put this to the test." Can you feel the Anton Ego welling up in here? So the place of business is quaint and adequate but nothing to write home about yet. As far as atmospheric accoutrement, it will do. We were greeted by the waitress who seemed a friendly enough. So we asked: "We hear that you are the best bakery in the city. You have a specialty?" "The chocolate cake is our specialty!", she beamed. "Really? Then, let's have your speciality", we insisted. She replied: "We don't have it." WHAT?!? "We haven't had it for months", she said calmly. What kind of idiot management puts this clown at the counter to represent the company and product? She then added: "We don't have the ingredient that makes it special. It comes from the states." As in the USA. "Well, tell me what it is and where it's at so I can get you some on my own!", I exclaimed. I have two letters for this place. B. S. I was born, bred and have lived in the USA all my life. Your exotic take on your house specialty cannot possibly be all that if it comes from my native country. What's my bottom line here? DO NOT COME HERE. If I come to your establishment asking for your best and you tell what it is but you do not have it, you are better off telling me that you have nothing special at all that to bait my expectations with saying you have a special but not now and not for me. Their explanation is not acceptable. My other reviews will show that I'm not that hard to please. If you're a business reading this review, use this as a teaching point. I read about this place on a couple of blogs and you know I love desserts so I was excited at the prospect of hitting up something sweet. I read on those blogs about their choco mud pie and their white chocolate cheesecake. Ben loves cheesecake, yet the prospect of something different outweighed my instinct to dive in to the cheesecake so I opted for the choco mud pie. Now... Ben loves choco mud pie :D The ice cream was smooth and had coconut in it, not like coconut flakes, but had the flavor of coconut with the ice cream, what a nice twist I was like there's something I'm tasting in this.. coconut! So like chocolate ice cream with hints of coconut, chocolate syrup, something like an Oreo crust, not saying it was Oreos but had the consistency of said cookie, and almonds sprinkled about... very nice indeed. I rarely give 5 stars but hey! I love this place! Every time we go to Bacolod we always visit this place! I love their cakes which has a very wide of variety to choose from. And the price is not bad! The service though is a bit slow but I can understand because usually the place is packed with people. You can't go wrong here! I just love it! Definitely would recommend this to anyone (get the Choco mud pie!) ! I just wish they have a store in Dumaguete. I just can't get enough. I'm gonna give Calea a 5/5 for three reasons: One, because it is very nostalgic of my childhood. It was still a small shop in the corner of Lourdes C Center on 14th street, and my mom would whisk me there for their cookies and cakes. I recall always getting an oatmeal cookie, which has cemented my love for raisins at a young age, when everyone else picks them out of their food. I have grown to have a fondness for their cakes, and I think most of the reasons why I keep coming back is that it reminds me of that childhood innocence (though it's hard to believe that I was once innocent). Two, because it has been consistent every since. They have always produced such great flavors and textures, and with little innovations and new flavor profiles throughout the years, the stuff that you see on their shelves right now are still the same old favorites that they have served ages and ages ago. Their cheesecakes still taste the same, even with cheaper substitutes for ingredients now proliferating in the market. Their devilish sweets still taste as if there were no intervening years in between my first forkfuls, and the present. Lastly, because it is simply, sinfully, and gorgeously delicious. Their cakes have been talk of the town for years, and in my opinion, no cake place in Bacolod has ever surpassed what they have achieved. Their new location on 15th Street is always packed to the rafters, and their service crew can barely keep up with the turnover. They have already installed a new to-go counter, so let's see if that helps ease the traffic a little bit. read more

I think this place is way overrated. I visited this place because my friends highly recommended it. I have a sweet tooth so I love cakes and pastries. I ordered my favorite black forest and oh boy...it's way too sweet. It tasted like they dump tons of sugar on it. Then, I asked what's their specialty cake. The waitress describe this delicious chocolate cake. I decided to order but was told that it's not available and had not been available for over a year. What?!! Seriously? You have a specialty and it's not available because the ingredients is from "The States". I told the waitress, "I live in the US what kind ingredients do you need?" She of course can't tell me. Anyway, I'm really disappointed with this place. It does not even deserve a 1 star but giving it 1 star for the ambience. read more

Calea is one of the first places you should definitely go to in Bacolod, my friends. The prices aren't bad, the service isn't bad, and the cakes, although very sweet be warned, are excellently made. However, Calea just doesn't have that wow factor I wanna see in most restaurants I go to. No offence to the owner, but he could do with catering to a wider variety of palettes aside from the sweet loving with something a bit less diabetes inducing, haha, but all jokes aside Calea has been in Bacolod for a few years now and it's going strong making great cakes for some very grateful sugar-bloods and the occasional tourist. read more

Other than desserts, they have sandwich selections and refreshments. It is best to visit Calea after lunch & dinner for dessert or mid afternoon for merienda. Try their mudpie!
