With the restaurants these guys have under their belt there's years of experience behind this place. You may have encountered the Klementou's seafood themed menus at Manny's and Stanley's Fish Cafes on The Parade and Gouger Street respectively, and Sammy's on the Marina at Glenelg. Café Mykonos has been opened three years now, holding presence on the merry-go-round of restaurants of O'Connell Street, North Adelaide.
It's a large space - about 120 seats inside and out - sat on by celebs, media types and for better or worse (just kidding), famous footballers. Husband and wife team Sammy and Loula have fed and befriended many of Adelaide's movers, groovers and shakers over the years. These days Café Mykonos is pitched as Mediterranean dining, with a Greek focus. Pasta is offered with the likes of prawns, crab, chicken and chorizo, an odd hamburger and fillet mignon but hey, when in Greece....go for traditional meze - pickled occy, fried whitebait, croquettes with skordalia and of course - the blessed, heavenly, squeaky, salty haloumi.
Mains include garlic prawns over rice, grilled snapper on garlic mash with lashings of dips and pillows of pita to be had on the side. Should you be on the side of a footy team, they're likely to be tucking into a platter or two. The "Santorini Seafood" option skewers up tiger prawns and scallops, batters fish, spices up calamari and sides them with "twisted" pita, fries, and Greek salad. However when the (footballin') man demands meat, summon the "Olympian" platter. It kicks goals with chevapchichi, fresh lamb yiros meat, lamb and chicken souvlaki and Greek sausages. read more
