    Patacones

Great find in Madrid!! After slogging through a small part of the Prado (art museums are not our fav), we were ready for lunch. This place is right behind the Prado - perfect location. Ambience- cozy place with good indoor and outdoor seating. We chose indoor as the weather is cold today. Service was excellent, so nice! Food- first they brought out hot baguettes! Hubby was in heaven. He had the French onion soup and loved it! We shared the patacones (please excuse spelling). These are crispy delicious plantain pancakes served with avocado, crème fraiche and feta. So good!! I had Ghandi chicken salad that came with banana bread and greens. Beautiful presentation and tasted delicious. So glad we got a chance to try this place before we leave Madrid. Highly recommend!!

I came across Café Murillo after visiting the botanical garden across the street. First impression was the decor gave off a cozy inviting vibe. We were seated right away but service throughout the time there was a bit on the slow side. I noticed locals were attended to quicker with their food service, requests, etc. I enjoyed the Hake as it was tender, moist, and well balanced with the garlic and parsley emulsified sauce. The classic French onion soup was also delicious. I also tried the skirt steak which I wasn't a fan of. It was chewy and bland. The chimichurri sauce helped a little bit even that wasn't very flavorful. Overall, it's a nice cafe to grab lunch at if you're not in a rush and there are many appetizers to choose from too if you're looking for a snack.

Visited in early May. After a long visit to El Prado, we needed a light meal. We were walking to Retiro park and saw this place and stopped in. Glad we did. We were seated quickly and we ordered coffee and water right away. Then decided to share some hamburger sliders because what we really wanted was some dessert! I ordered an apple dessert, crispeta de manzana and my husband had the fondant. I loved my dessert and my husband liked his too-it was super 'gooey.' Our server was excellent and we left happy.

A sneaky good lunch option, seems like you really can't go wrong with any of the dishes. Went with the risotto myself after struggling to decide between a few enticing options. Definitely start with the croquettes, they're not to be missed.

    Burrata, tinto, y fried plantain

We ended up at this place after visiting El Prado. We were hungry afterward and my girlfriend needed wifi for a call, which they delivered on. We ordered tinto de verano, burrata, and somos thing that tasted like a fried plantain that came with guac, sour cream, and salsa. Everything was delicious and our service was impeccable. Prices were reasonable.

I would enthusiastically recommend it! 10/10 Cheers! The service was exceptional; friendly, accommodating, hospitable, etc. They patiently put up with me as I pointed at the menu and tried to communicate with them in my extremely limited Spanish, which consisted mainly of me nodding and pointing. "Agua con gas, por favor." After one of my meals, I wanted to have another Americano, smoke a cigar and continue to enjoy the terrace of my new favorite café. I asked the server, Anny, for a lighter, as I figured she might have one on hand for the candles, or there might be one inside. Instead, Anny asked the Spanish lady beside me, who was ripping cigs and drinking Albarino, if I could borrow her lighter. S/O to Anny for brokering that exchange to perpetuate bad habits. I later allowed the lady to use my ashtray (Cenicero). Favor repaid! Starter. The plantain chips were crispy, salty, naturally a little sweet and with a dab of crème fraîche, made for the most delightful bite. Once the entrée arrived, I had totally lost track of what I had ordered. With each bite, I was trying to diagnose the different components of what I was eating. What puzzled me the most was the grilled item on top. Until I was enthusiastically struck that it was grilled goat cheese! I'm not proud that I forgot, nor that it took me so long to figure it out. I blame the heat and jetlag for that. Once I realized what flavor bombs were going off in my mouth, my eyes lit up with gastronomic bliss. The Quinoa, Lentil, with Goat Cheese salad, was served with lamb lettuce and balsamic vinaigrette. The balsamic drizzle on the bottom of the plate and on top of the goat cheese was just the right amount to provide a little punch and tang to my palate. It's probably the tastiest thing I've had in a while. I was surprised at how satisfied I was after finishing the salad... and with no meat! Who knew!? My gf and I stumbled upon this cafe when walking around el Prado and it was great! We grabbed a couple tinto de verano and tapas in the afternoon. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Food was great and our server was so kind and excellent. They do have wifi which we took advantage of. I'd recommend going here over cafe Prado for better prices.

    Huevos rotos

My friend and I went here for brunch before our day the museums. It was at the perfect location between all the art museums we wanted to visit for the day. For late brunch the place was packed. We were able to get a table in the back of the restaurant. I ordered huevos rotos which are overeasy eggs over ham and french fries. Man was that meal delicious. Prob the best breakfast I had in Madrid. It was super filling, there was plenty of jamon and who doesn't love french fries ? Fries were perfectly crispy as well and tasted good with the other elements on the dish. Throughly enjoyed out experience at this cafe ! Would recommend it to anyone grabbing a quick bite before museum browsing :)

We had just finished a full day at Prado Museum and had worked up a hefty appetite. We were a party of 4 and showed up roughly around 7pm. I never expect great cuisine in touristy areas especially next to a main attraction but Murillo exceeded our expectations. We ordered the burrata salad, coquettes, and patatas bravas. They also give you warm bread with butter and oil as well. The burrata salad had a green salad with sun dried tomatoes that was beautifully presented. Everyone was very happy with the quality and presentation of the food and more importantly the taste. Now what I am about to say is a very big and bold statement but the roasted chicken with tomato was one of the best roasted chicken I've had. It was juicy, flavorful, tender, and absolutely delicious. My daughters ordered the entraña and Salmon. Also very very good. I was extremely surprised to be served this type of cuisine. I loved it and would recommend to anyone especially if traveling from the United States. It had a little bit of everything and in my opinion you will leave very happy. Thank you to our waiter Enzo for the great service.

    15 Euro chicken "pot pie"
    Tim W.

I ordered the chicken pot pie. I was given a muffin sized "pie", some cherry tomatoes and some greens for $15 Euros....lol. It was cold. I don't know what else to say about this meals other than I'm still hungry. Oh, I just got the bill. The single piece of bread and butter that I did NOT order but was placed at my table (which I thought was part of the meal) cost me an additional 1.90 Euro. I sound jaded AF, but does anyone blame me?

Cool little cafe across from the Prado Museum. Lots of share plates and friendly staff. Quiet place to enjoy some food in the shade

    Truffles huevos rotos

We sat outside after visiting Buen Retiro and the Prado. We were starving and this place really hit the spot. I thought it was a tourist trap but the food was delicious, server was attentive, and I loved sitting on the sidewalk. I got the truffled huevos rotos and was not disappointed!

Tequenos, manchego cheese platter, strawberry pavlova
    Ellen K.

Such a chic and charming spot! We stopped in for a quick coffee break but ended up staying much longer than originalintended. We split the tequenos, manchego cheese platter, and strawberry pavlova, all of which were fantastic. The tequenos were my personal cheesy favorite, though the light pavlova was a close second.

In terms of food, there were some great components--the snout was super tender and the sauce that came with it was very flavorful. However, I found that some of the other dishes were chewy in texture, and that the refinement of the flavorful was lacking for a menu of this price. The idea of using offal for dessert is certainly interesting, but it felt like they were adding ingredients for the sake of creativity, and felt like they didn't actually belong in the dish. I had an early reservation compared to local dining habits, so the restaurant was very empty during my dinner. This probably contributed somewhat to the service feeling a bit uncomfortable, but overall it was a bit cold and it felt like the staff were staring me down as I ate my meal.

We stayed at the Hotel Sardinero in Chambri where there are more Michelin Star restaurants within a…read morefew minutes walk than there are within an 8 hour drive of where we live in Milwaukee. But most of them average a months pay but this one is only a little expensive (under 200 Euro for two). We were able to make reservations on their website, it's very close to the Nuevos Minesterios Metro station, though you need to pay attention to signs, that is a huge station. Near a beautiful high end shopping mall if you need a Rolex or the like. When we got to the restaurant it seemed oddly familiar, yes we knew it from Eva Longoria's travel through Spain limited series. In the Madrid episode she looked like she really enjoyed the food here in spite of the fact that it is locally sourced offal. Of course she's an actress but it turns out she wasn't acting, the chef is a brilliant creative Spanish chef who has been inspired by traditional rural cooking from poor areas that learned to make every part of farm animals and weeds taste good. The many courses sound pretty scary but try to ignore what they are made of and savor the unique complex flavors, it's ecstasy. Unlike high class restaurants in the States, a couple of glasses of good wine will not significantly add to the bill. Don't fill up on the delicious bread. Even dessert was a complicated combination of flavors I've never encountered and I've eaten a lot of different meals around the world. Every course was a work of art, visually and to taste. A place like this is why I don't like to dole out 5 star reviews like that's the norm. This is a definite 5 YELP star dining experience. The chef and many of the staff from the television show were here, his book is for sale and he will autograph it. However if it puts you even a kilo over your luggage limit, TAP Air Portugal will nail you with a 100 Euro fee.
