In terms of quality, the experience was about as good as I could have hoped for. I called in advance but it still took a minute to get my pizza ready, which is okay as fresh food outside on an island is worth waiting for, but bears keeping in mind. There are some picnic tables set up nearby but I did have to depart due to wind and find a more sheltered locale to eat. The pizza had relatively whole crushed tomatoes, which is usually not my preference, but in this case the flavor really hit. The tang, the char, the smoothness of the contrasting ingredients is what you'd get at a high-end place. A salad with ranch dressing and the tiramisu I got for dessert were not on the online menu, but having arrived and seen these options I was glad I elected to take them. It's not the same experience as a sit-down restaurant, but it was a winner for me.

I started with their house Merlot, and she had their Summer Berry Sangria. My wine was fine. Her…read moresangria was tasty, but she complained a couple times about berry seeds in the drink. Her crab and shrimp cake was very good. It was well-prepared, tasted good, and there was little filler in with the seafood. Her sides were French fries and asparagus. I tried them: I thought the fries were good, but I thought the asparagus were a little over-cooked and over-seasoned. I ordered what the menu said was an eight-ounce filet. On line, the price was $28. When the bill came, it was $34. Apparently somewhere along the line they changed cuts of meat but didn't update the menu accordingly. Regardless, the meat was delicious. My sides were mashed potatos and a side Caesar salad. Both were good. And as I asked, the server brought the salad well in advance of the entree so I had some time to digest before the steak came. Most restaurants -- even nice ones -- bring the salad or appetizer practically on top of the entree, which in my opinion automatically reduces the rating. We arrived on a mid-week late afternoon, certainly before the dinner rush, and were the only customers in the restaurant at the time. The restaurant was pleasant. The server was informative, friendly, and appropriately attentive.

I've been following Bazil's New York Style Eatery for a while now on social media and had been…read moremeaning to make the trip. Living in Virginia about 45 minutes away, it just hadn't happened yet -- but after finally making the drive to Crisfield, I can honestly say it was well worth the wait. First up was the cheesesteak, and it was easily one of the best I've had around. I started with a incredible Liscio's seeded roll straight out of New Jersey, which already puts it in a different league. The meat was perfectly seasoned, the onions were sweet and beautifully caramelized, and the cheese was melted throughout the entire sandwich instead of just slapped on top like some places do. Every bite was balanced, rich, and exactly what a proper cheesesteak should be. I also grabbed an Italian sub to split with a close friend, and it was just as impressive. They use top-quality Boar's Head meats and cheeses, and the Italian had all the classics -- capicola, mortadella, and Genoa salami -- layered perfectly. I added sweet peppers which brought a great little pop of flavor, but honestly it would have been amazing even without them. You can tell Bazil's cares about quality and doing things the right way. Everything tasted fresh, authentic, and made with pride. I already can't wait to come back and try the bagels and the cannolis everyone keeps talking about. If you're anywhere near the area, run -- don't walk -- to Bazil's. Crisfield has got a serious gem
