Found this place on Yelp as usual and came here today for an early dinner. The ambiance is nice and cozy. The service was satisfying. The food was plenty. It is a New York style Italian cooking but I really enjoyed their Frutta del mare (it should be Frutti di mare.) although the linguine was swimming in the white wine (and maybe clam juice?) sauce. I only wish the AC was working. The ceiling fans were not enough. It was really warm in the restaurant and it was cooler outside. read more

Carmela's reminds me of the Italian places in NJ. In NJ, you just pick one and it'll be good. In MD though, this is a rare gem. The lasagna is excellent. Perfect ratio of cheese and meat. The star of course is the gravy. Side salad has a lot more olives, tomato's and cucumbers than I expected. Cannoli is one of the best ones I've had. I usually get pizza for takeout. Pizza is the best I've had in the state, and the next best is Costco. Originally from the PA/NJ area, MD's pizza scene is not great. Very prompt service. Everyone is very nice. Inside is cute. There's pictures, fun signs, and a TV. Some of the clientele were off putting. Chatting with staff about politics and still blaming Hillary Clinton for something in 2026 is wild. For the location and price point, definitely an overachiever. Quality is probably at the midpoint between Olive Garden and Little Italy. Owner is Sicilian and has Brooklyn roots so recipes are authentically Italian-American with red-white checkered tablecloths and photos of Sinatra. Only thing missing is a violin serenade to O Sole Mio. Very kid-friendly with pizza options that have a not too sweet but low herb profile sauce, cream based sauces are a slightly heavy handed, but pastas cooked al dente. UNREAL food!!! Totally shocked. Amazing flavors. Big portions. I ordered the carbonara and added chicken for extra protein. This was the best carbonara I have EVER had. Husband got the meatball sandwich and that was also super good. Went into this restaurant thinking it would just be super average because it is kind of hole in the wall looking from the outside. The waitress when asked what I was debating about, noted the lasagna so I took her suggestion. Spinach and sausage didn't have a "sauce" which made it a bit dry, but still had a nice flavor. I would add hot sauce and pepper flakes. Meatball, peppers and onions pizza was good with the marinara sauce making for some teeth sinking bites however don't be surprised if the onions fall off. Tried Carmela's today based on high Yelp reviews which, we discovered, are well deserved. I had the Lasagna and my wife had the Chicken Parma over spaghetti. Both were excellent and in huge portions. Our waitress boxed our leftovers for us to take home. Bread served with the meal was sliced pizza crust made in the restaurant with marinara for dipping. It was addictive. Carmela's does a brisk business in takeout pizzas and a number of them went out the door as we dined in. Atmosphere was pleasant and family friendly, service was great and prices appropriate. We will put this on our list of regulars in the Cambridge area. read more

We were quite satisfied with our dinner, but I don't agree with the few reviews that act like this is fine dining or the best food ever. It's very average. The pizzas are big and good, and the salad is ok but should be served with their own dressing rather than stuff out of a bottle. Beer choices are totally uninteresting, just bottles of Bud Lite and Yuengling. The staff was very friendly and quick, which is always appreciated. The setting is more like a pizza parlor than a restaurant, with ugly tables crammed into two small rooms. I imagine on a cold day that it's freezing in there, based on what seem like thin walls and the fact that several tables are right next to the door to the outside. OMG!!! Found this on Tiktok looking for something good to eat, and it did not disappoint. Gives me a mom and pop restaurant feel. Quaint and cozy. The pizza was to die for! I selected the Sausage and Sweet which had roasted red pepper, sausage, bacon and cheese. The personal size had 4 nice size slices. Moist with a slight crisp and the perfect amount of sweetness! I had an extremely odd experience at Carmela's. From the time I walked in the door it felt as it a record scratched and all eyes were on us as we simply wanted to dine in. Not going with my initial instincts because the waitress was nice we thought we would have an enjoyable dinner. The salad, and complimentary bread was yummy. Sentiments I can't say for the rest of the meal. Ok here's where things get interesting. Literally the entire restaurant (all tables that arrived after us) received their food before us. Was it a coincidence that we were the only people that looked different? Perhaps but I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. I noticed a table that ordered after us had the same dish we ordered- chicken parmigiana. I kindly asked for the check, left a glass full of beer, paid for what we consumed and left. Amazing food. Made to order. Fresh, high quality ingredients. Service was amazing. Walked in with a party of 10 no reservations. They quickly made accommodations for us and gave us the back room for us to have space and be comfortable. Spoke with the actual owner Carmela and our server was Reese. They advised us that the chef was from Italy and it was very telling because this food was the best Italian food I've had and I've travelled in Italy. We had lasagna, fettuccine Alfredo, shrimp scampi, veal Marsala, seafood pizza, French fries, chicken cheesesteak, caprese salad, house salad and cannolis. I would recommend EVERYTHING! Due to my experience at this restaurant, I felt the need to download Yelp to write an honest review. My boyfriend and I (18 years of age) visited this establishment a few weeks ago. Our experience has been on my mind ever since. My boyfriend and I walked into this establishment around 5pm. Right when we walked in, we noticed there were only 2 customers sitting at a table closest to the counter of which you order at. Later, my boyfriend told me that he believes the customers are related to the employees. My boyfriend has visited this establishment before and has seen the same customers dining inside multiple times. Not a problem at all, however what happened next is. Right when we walked inside, we were asked if we were picking up an order. We stated that we were not, and instead we were placing an order. We placed our order, and I proceeded to sit at a table while my boyfriend stood and waited for our food. We were never asked if we would be taking our order to go or dining inside. I have been to restaurants before where you pick up your order and sit at an open table, which I assumed would be the same case at this restaurant. I should have not assumed that, however I did based on the layout of the restaurant. While my boyfriend waited for our food to heat up(we ordered pizza slices), the employees were watching the news and speaking on politics. My boyfriend received our drinks and kindly asked where the straws were located, when one of the employees says "behind you" in a rude manner. After my boyfriend received our slices of pizza, he walked to the table I was sitting at, where we tried to eat our food. Before we even take a bite of our food, one of the employees walks up to our table. She states "we have rules" and that we cannot be dining inside because we were supposed to take our food to go (we were never asked nor did we ever state that we were taking our food to go). Not sure what the rules are as she did not state any. She also said all of this in a rude manner. Mind you, me and my boyfriend were respectful throughout this entire encounter. We left the establishment respectfully and ate our food in his car after being kicked out. Looking back on this experience, I believe that the mistreatment we endured was possibly due to our young ages. Also, these employees may have wanted alone time to talk about politics to themselves and their possible family members dining inside. I have never once been treated this way by an employee in my life. Also, I work in the customer service industry and know that this behavior is blatantly disrespectful. A kind employee would have offered my boyfriend and I a plate so that we could eat our food inside if the rules are strict about us eating from a box. I would understand us being asked to leave if the establishment were busy and we just sat at a seat, however there were only 2 people dining inside. Food was decent, but not worth the experience. If you want to eat here, I recommend ordering delivery or take out. Now I can see why there was no one dining in this establishment. read more

Took my girlfriend in there for a date, the subs are better priced than Jersey Mike's. I got the chicken Caesar wrap with fries (not sure if the wrap counts as Italian food or not lol), it was kind of like a crunch wrap supreme from taco bell with how it looked on the outside. Service was nice and friendly. She got the steak sub, though I wish they added fries with the sub as part of the meal, I would have paid another dollar or 2 for it. But it was good. My only grip is the 2 sodas, we each had a refill, so I don't know if we were charged for them. The prices for the 2 sodas were $6.76 which is insane. So food wise, it is reasonably priced (especially considering the rising cost of living), as for drinks I would say you are better off bringing your own or asking for water. read more

Some of the best Italian food I've ever had. We loved all the pastas and the fried ravioli. Try the hot sweet pizza.
